MISSION STATEMENT AD INTRA (for ourselves):
To deepen our experience of Jesus Christ through a vibrant
sacramental life and our common liturgical worship. AD EXTRA (to the world):
To reach our vocational fulfillment individually and as a

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK—DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PASTOR 2
The World in View from a Believer’s
Perspective
When Fr. William Mitchell, our founding Pastor retired in
1994, Fr. Blasé Meyer was appointed as interim until the
new Pastor, Fr. Dennis Riccitelli could be installed. Last
month, Fr. Blasé left this world to meet the Lord.
When a man of the cloth dies, priests from all over the
Diocese turn out to concelebrate and offer their mass
intentions for the fallen ‘brother in arms’. We were 30 to
40 priests at his funeral mass. Each priest celebrated his
mass intentions for Fr. Meyer, which was the equivalent
of that many masses being offered for the deceased—all
at once. Bishop Olmsted presided over the Eucharistic
Liturgy. Fr. Dennis Riccitelli preached a beautiful homily
about how Blasé helped Dennis say ‘yes’ to his priestly
vocation more than half a century ago. Fr. Richard Felt
was present, offering a temporal adieu and his prayers
on behalf of the deceased.
As priests, we men have received among the most
sublime gifts ever to be given to men. But the Lord had
this to say to his closest collaborators: From everyone
who has been given much, much will be demanded; and
from the one who has been entrusted with much, much
more will be asked.
With that in mind, I solicit your prayers today for Fr.
Blasé. God hears and answers the prayers we offer on
behalf of the dead—and that truth is full of hope.
Your Pastor,
Fr. Larry
esperanza.
Su Pastor,
Padre Lorenzo

THE TRINITY OF STEWARDSHIP 5
The Holy Cross Stewardship Committee fosters the mission of Holy Cross Catholic Church by INFORMING the parish of ministries taking place, by INVITING people into new and existing ministries, by SUPPORTING people in their ministries, by PROVIDING information regarding the financial situation of the parish and to INCREASE financial support of the parish.
Dear Parishioners,
You may be aware that a comprehensive planning study of the entire parish is underway. The
purpose of this review is to help gauge support for the following projects that constitute our
parish master plan:
I offer sincere thanks to study participants. We value your thoughts shared during this
planning process. I encourage everyone who hasn’t responded to do so. Your input will help
us make an informed decision regarding our long-range plans for Holy Cross.
We hope to have all surveys completed by Jan. 30. You may return your survey to the office or
place it in the offertory basket at any of the Masses.
You may also complete the survey online by going to steiergroup.com/survey, clicking on Holy

St. Vincent de Paul's life-saving works to the poor could never
be accomplished without the generous support of our
parishioners and good friends like you. Every dollar you give
works small and large miracles in the lives of the forgotten
and destitute we see day to day right here in our own
community. Next week-end our Saint Vincent de Paul
members will be outside all the Masses with their blue
buckets for donations that make these miracles happen. May
you be blessed for whatever you can give.

Join us in our continuing Adult Faith

exploring the classical view of morality
and find that it’s not merely a set of
guiding principles for theoretical
situations—it is an entire way of life.
Session 2: Recovering the
Basics Each one of us is created for love. The
good news is that we don’t have to
figure out how to live up to this purpose
on our own. In this session, we'll
discover that there really is a set of
skills that will make us capable of living
our relationships well and eventually
building up a great society: the virtues,
and that these virtues are the skills we
need for life.
Books can be purchased from the
Parish Office for $5 ($14.40 on
Amazon) .
Participant study guides will be
provided at all sessions. Donations to
cover the cost of materials is greatly
appreciated.

2017, how did you do on your
caregiving journey?
1. If you felt overwhelmed during
the past year, did you ask
anyone else to help you with
your caregiving duties?
2. Did you take some breaks from
your caregiving duties even if
just for a couple of hours each
week?
3. Did you seek and receive support from others on the
caregiving journey through in-person support groups or
online virtual support groups?
4. Did you keep up with your own medical appointments and
wellness exams?
Did you remember to affirm yourself occasionally for all you are
doing for your loved one?
If you answered “yes” to four of the five questions above, then
you had a successful year that deserves to be replicated. If
you answered “yes” to three or fewer questions, you should
have a good idea of a focus for your 2018 caregiving journey.
To fulfill the third point above, come join us at our monthly
support group meetings. We will meet next Thursday, January
25, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. in classroom J at Holy Cross. We
meet again on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at 2:30 p.m.
in classrooms 1-2 at Mountain Vista Medical Center, 1301
S. Crismon Road, Mesa. For questions about caregiving,
contact support group facilitator and parishioner Evelyn
Sanchez at 602-882-5197.

Christian Unity is celebrated at St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic
Cathedral, 8141 N. 16th Street (north of Northern), in Phoenix on

visit an Eastern Rite Catholic parish and hear Bishop John Pazak,
C.Ss.R, Bishop of Holy Protection of May Byzantine Catholic
Eparch of Phoenix, who will preach. As challenging as it may be
today, the Church continues to seek the will of Jesus who prayed
that all of his disciples will be one. Through the grace of the Holy
Spirit, may the things that presently divide Christians be
reconciled.

programas de educación religiosa, o si va a ser padrino en un
bautizo, los procedimientos se pueden lograr rápidamente y
fácilmente.
Venga a la oficina de la parroquia y llene el formulario para
registrarse en la Iglesia de la Santa Cruz.
