Women Of St.

Andrews

Once again the summer months have flown by ... and now ourthoughts turn to the start-up of regular activities on the fallschedule. WOSA Bible study will resume on Tuesdays, beginning

September 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the social room. Pastor Matt will guide us throughscripture, sharing his unique insights and answering our always numerous questions! Allare welcome to share in this time of study, great fellowship, education and laughter ...and there are no fees!

“All good things must come to an end.”

After much discussion and deliberation, WOSA has decided to discontinue all quiltingefforts (at least for the time being). With fewer and fewer hands to stitch and sew, itwas a reluctant, but necessary, decision. There are so many “behind the scenes” quiltingdetails that were faithfully and devotedly handled by Jackie Maas and Nancy Wilson foryears and years. They both deserve some “R & R”. Under their leadership, beautifulquilts have been lovingly created and donated to Lutheran World Relief to providewarmth and comfort to those in need around the world. Since the project started in1992, WOSA members created 3,103 quilts. We offer great thanks to Jackie and Nancyfor all their time and talents given to the WOSA quilting project over all these years.

At the last meeting of the 2017/2018 session, WOSA members voted to distribute fundsearned from the bake and book sale events held during this session. These donationswere made possible because of the support of YOU – the St. Andrews congregation – andwe are grateful! Donations were distributed as follows:

Lutheran Bible Translators. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 100.00 LutheranChurch Charities. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100.00 LCMS SeminaryFood Pantry . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100.00 Lutheran World Relief. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 200.00 Prison Ministry (Lori Wilbert). . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 200.00 St. Andrews Comfort Dog Ministry . . . . . .. . . . . . . . 100.00 St. Matthew Food Pantry. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. 100.00

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I am so excited to have the school year started up again. I love that, every morning, I get to see and talk with families,

greet our students, and hear the “joyful noise” of all the activity in the School.

The start of the Fall means so much more than just the beginning of School, however. So many things are kicking into

high gear. As we head into September, here is just a partial list of things to add to your calendar and prayer list:

September 8/9 – We go back to our regular school year church worship schedule. We will continue to have our 5pm

Saturday service, but we will now go back to having two services on Sunday – our 8:30am Traditional Service, and our

11am Ancient Prayers service. Sunday School and Adult Bible Class kick off again too! On this weekend, we will also be

having our first CONFIRMATION REATREAT for 7th and 8th Graders and parents as well. Contact me or Katie Otto for

more information

September 12 – WOW (Word on Wednesday) starts again! We will be having a six week session of WOW. Show up

between 6 and 6:40pm for dinner and stay for a 35 minute study for all ages. It’s a great time of fellowship and fun!

September 20 – Calling all men! The men’s group will have a bocce ball tournament starting at 7pm at the Log Cabin Inn

off of Potter Road

September 30 – THE START OF THE MONTLY PANCAKE BREAKFAST. Once a month we will have a pancake breakfast in

between the services in place of our regular Bible Study. After pancakes, we will also start our New Member Classes on

this day.

OTHER THINGS: Continue to pray for our Comfort Dog ministry, we are only a few months away from having our very

own dog here at St. Andrews! Also, your church leadership members have been deep in thought and prayer about how

to best situate our church office and recapture the use of the house the office is currently in. We are in the beginning

stages, but we’d love your prayers and input!

In Christ,

Pastor Matt Hoffmann

Sunday School Registration

Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 9, when we kick off a new year of Sunday School. We’ll install our teachers

at the 8:30 service that day, and begin Sunday School at 9:45. Sunday School is offered for students in preschool-8th

grade. Registration is now available online, from the home page of our church website, www.standrewsparkridge.org.

Youth Ministry News

We’ll be making some changes to the youth ministry schedule for both middle school and high school this year! The high

school youth ministry is moving to Sunday mornings, beginning September 9, with a new name:

InMterMsecMtion

Noun

1. A point at which two or more things intersect

All youth in grades 9-12 are invited to come to “The Intersection” each week for an opportunity to meet (or intersect!)

with each other and with Christ. Sundays in the youth room, 9:45-10:45.

The middle school youth will continue to meet on Wednesdays, but with a little different schedule than years past. The

1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month, the youth will meet 6:30-8:00 in the youth room. The 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of each

month, the youth will have an afterschool hangout. On those days, the youth room will be open from 3:30-5:00, and

youth will be able to grab a snack and hangout with each other, working on homework or playing games. More detailed

information will be emailed to the youth families.

Blessings,

Katie Otto, DCE

School News

We will be celebrating 107 years of education in the 2018-2019 school year.

We have a lot of new faces at St. Andrews this school year. We have added some newpositions to better serve our families and students. Caitlyn Warren will provideadministrative support to the school, and our office/media coordinator will enhance ourtechnology and social media communication. The new office structure also gives us theopportunity to add a part-time social worker, Irina Gimena and part-time science teacher forgrades 1-4, Mrs. Kristin Johnson. We welcome, Mrs. Parisi, as our lunchroom supervisorand Samantha Warchol in our aftercare program.
