Role of System

The skeletal system is all of the bones in your body. Your skeleton is what holds you up and gives you your shape. Without your skeleton you would collapse and be nothing.

Your skeletal system’s major organs are the bones. Your skeleton protects vital organs such as your brain and your heart.

Facts about the Skeletal System• When you are born you have 300 bones, but as you grow and become an adult you lose some bones and end up with 206.

• Over half of your bones are in your hands, feet, and fingers.

• The longest bone in the human body is the femur (thigh bone).

• Teeth are considered part of the skeletal system, even though they're not bones.

• Every 7 years your skeleton is replaced by new cells.

Diseases

● Osteoporosis : loss of bone tissue, bones lose calcium and begin to get thin (mainly among the elderly)

● Spina Bifida: incomplete closure of the vertebra around the spinal canal

● Arthritis: joint inflammation that causes pain and stiffness that can worsen with age

● Rickets: a childhood disease caused by not receiving enough vitamin D

How they are contracted

● Osteoporosis: age, hormone status, and diet are all key things that can lead to osteoporosis

● Spina Bifida: birth related condition

● Arthritis: caused by stiffness in the joints , or can also be from skin conditions. arthritis in kids can be caused by their body attacks the tissue

● Rickets: not getting enough vitamin D

How they are Treated

● Osteoporosis can be treated with medicine such as calcitonin, bisphosphonates, and alendronate. They also need to eat a healthy diet high in vitamin D and calcium.

● Spina Bifida can be treated before birth with fetal surgery.

● Arthritis can not be cured. However there are some treatments such as prescriptions, self treatments, and people's lifestyles can affect how severe it is.

● The Rickets is treated by upping the intake of a child's vitamin D and calcium. There is no way to fully cure Rickets.
