Feb. 8-12 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Week in North Carolina. Please consider doing something to recognize the important contribu-tions of your school bus drivers in the educational process.
JOIN US AT THE CHECKERS GAME—MARCH 13
Charlotte Checkers Hockey Team and Waddell
invite YOU and your family, friends and neighbors
to join them at Bojangles’ Coliseum on Sunday,
March 13, 2016 for the annual hockey
game! The Checkers will square off against the
Rockford Ice Hogs at 1:00, it is Chubby’s birth-
day, and there is skating with Chubby and his
teammates after the game!
Tickets are $15.00 each (a portion of the ticket sales are returned to
Waddell) Skating is free if you have your own skates and cost $5.00 if
you need to rent them. (Rentals are available on the main level of the
stadium before the game begins)
Please order tickets through online payment through the Waddell web-
site beginning Monday, January 11th and ending March 3, 2016. Tickets
will go home with students the week of March 7, 2016.

Please feel free to give a warm Charlotte welcome to our assistants if you see them in the classroom, lunchroom, hallways or carpool lines. If you are visiting a local attraction or event, consider inviting one or all of the assistants to join you! They w ould love to experience as m uch of our Am er ican culture as they can w hile they are here.
Our assistants are also available and eager to babysit and/or tutor at any level or subject. General rates are $20/hour for tutoring and $12/hour for babysitting (add $1/hour for each additional child). Please keep in mind that these are just the base prices. Each semester at Waddell, our German immersion classrooms (grades K-1st) are assigned a German uni-
versity student as a paid CMS assistant. If you are familiar with the American college/university teacher
practicum program, then you know our children and teachers greatly appreciate the educational emphasis
brought by each of these assistants as they apply the techniques and theories they are learning in their
teacher training studies. If you have any questions, or would like to learn more about how this program

SPRING SEASON OF GIRLS ON THE RUN STARTS SOON—REGISTER TODAY OR VOLUNTEER AS A COACH!
All third, fourth, and fifth grade girls are invited to register for the spring season of Girls on the Run! Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confi-dent using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively inte-grates running. Girls on the Run focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health. Girls on the Run will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 – 4:45. The spring season will begin on February 2 and will conclude with a celebratory 5K in late April. The registration period is January 8-14. See flyer for more de-tails! The 7th Chinese Language Competition sponsored by Confucius Institute at NC

This is the only state-wide Chinese writing and speech contests in North Caroli-
na. Last year, over 400 students attended the competition. With your constant
support and participation, we believe we would have a greater event this year.

SPRING CULTURE CLUB REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN!
Attention 4th and 5th grade parents: If you want to sign up for Spring Culture Club,
please fill out the attached form. Please send the form in with your child before
Wednesday, January 13th. Dues are $40 for returning students, $50 for first time stu-
dents. A link to signup genius and dismissal note reminders (to send to school with
students) for each meeting will be provided when payment is received. Checks should
be made payable to: Waddell PTSA

Changes for the Spring:
· Meetings will be Thursdays from 3:30-4:45 (immediately after school).
· Addition of a Spanish class (class options will be Spanish, German, French, Japa-
nese, Chinese). This is subject to change per meeting based on signup interest.
· Meetings will be delivered in English and students can signup for any culture's meet-
ing. This will allow exposure to all the various language programs offered at Waddell
in 6-8th grades. We hope this helps parents and kids discover their child’s next lan-
guage passion.
· SignupGenius.com will host a first come, first serve signup for each meeting.
(approximately 20 seats for each class). The link to the sign up will be sent when pay-
ment is received.
· 5 scholarships will be given out based on teacher recommendations.

Shop at Publix?
Please pick up a Publix shopper card in the front office. Cards are on Karen Bryer’s desk. A percentage of your purchases will be awarded to Waddell! Cards may be used in all stores except those in Florida.

Ronald McDonald House provides caring, comfortable housing for fami-lies traveling for their child’s medical treatment. The money earned from recycling pop tabs will help pay for families to
receive shelter, food, and support.

This year, the school is moving towards accepting only or mostly Online
