Hi!

Happy New Year. Hope you all had a relaxing and produc-tive festive season.

How many times have you vowed “This year I am going to get organised and sort that stash!”? Somehow it just doesn’t happen. We’ve got a few tips to help you on your way.

We have some fantastic new fabric ranges in stock now—Empress, circa 1870’s fea-tures some of the more vi-brant & brighter fabrics of this era, Sonnet Collection by April Cornell with col-ours drawn from nature’s pal-ette, Belle by Amy Butler in-spired by Amy’s favorite gar-den sanctuaries, and many more.

This year we are introducing the Thread Club. Similar to the Block of the Month, the Thread Club lets you col-lect the entire colour range of

your favourite threads throughout the year.

You can now shop online at www.tqes.com.au. Our se-cure shopping cart is active and ready to take your orders. You can also view our prod-ucts, check out our classes and see what’s new.

We also have Japanese In-digo Blue fabric in stock now so be quick and don’t miss out.

We have confirmed the de-tails for Kaffe Fassett’s workshop & lecture program on June 12th & 13th. Read more inside.

And last but not least—am madly planning the wedding. Advice welcome!!

As always, Happy reading!

THE W INNER IS . . .

Thank you to all of you who kindly donated cushions to the KOPING CHALLENGE. Entries came from as far away as Tasmania and North Queensland. The array of cushion designs was fantastic and all worthy of a prize. We are sure they will add a lot of love and sunshine to the lives of their new owners.

1st Prize—Beverley Glab

2nd Prize—Helen Barnard

3rd Prize—Jean Scott

Beverley’s cushion featured a hand appliquéd wombat sur-rounded by hand embroidered flowers and grasses. The back-ground and wombat were both highlighted with fabric paints and a gorgeous finger puppet wombat added the finishing touch.

Benni Harper, Earlene Fowler’s super sleuth, is a sassy ex-cowgirl and a quilter who loves to solve crimes, much to the exasperation of the new Chief of Police in San Celina. Sparks fly when these two meet & love follows. Her Gramma Dove is a real character with lots of wise sayings. Earlene Fowler’s books are an enjoy-able read which keep you guessing till the end & make you want to keep reading to see how the next crime is solved & how the love interest progresses.

GETTING YOUR STASH SORTED

Whether your obsession, oops, sorry I meant passion, is threads or fabric now is the time to get organised. Did you just ask WHY?? Because sanity is usually preferable to in-sanity and now is as good a time as any. Start off the new year getting organised and enjoy the lifestyle change. Here are some useful hints: 1.Enlist the help of a friend—choose one that is a little obsessive about or-der!

2.Set a date to get started—NO, not 2008—this month would be great.

3.Choose a room to be your workroom for this event—the bigger the better.

4.Decide where you will start—for some of us getting organised may in-volve the whole house. Seek out those secret stashes too, you know the ones—look in every corner, cupboard and drawer. Fabric may serve as a good insulator for your house but I’m sure that is not why you bought it in the first place!

5.Now pull out all of your stuff—take deep breaths and relax. You can do this (Hint—chocolate will help!)

6.Gather together some containers eg large boxes, laundry baskets, or even grocery bags. These may help with the initial sort.

7. Divide your stuff into similar piles or “purpose” piles eg • New projects

• UFO’s • Tools—eg scissors, needles, pins

etc • Fabrics- Think about how you will

sort your fabrics—by colour/designer/theme eg reproductions, brights, novelty/purpose?

• Threads/Beads 8.OK now you have your stuff sorted into piles, it’s time for the hard deci-sions. What to keep and what to toss. Divide each of your purpose piles into YES, NO & MAYBE. Don’t agonise over each item, work quickly, be ruth-less and get the NO’s out of your workroom now! (Why not donate them to a worthy cause—the Charity Quilts group is always looking for goodies). Now tackle the MAYBE’s— turn them into a YES or NO.

9.Almost done—decide on a storage place for the YES’s—the stuff you’ll keep. Choose storage containers that are easy to access and identify a space where it can be stored and easily ac-cessed.

Well done— I’m sure you’ll have no trouble convincing yourself and your friend that all your hard work has earned you a little retail therapy—ahhh just a little piece of fabric or a skein of thread.

Look out for our Stash Buster Quilt Class next term.

Well we can help ensure that family and friends always have plenty of choices available when choosing your next gift. Whether it is for a birthday, Mothers Day or a Baby Shower. You tell us what you would like and we will create your person-alised Wish List. Then all they have to do is come in and we can guide them to just the right thing.

For my last birthday, I dropped hints & pointed out items in my favourite embroidery magazines that I would just love to have and still my other half didn’t get the hint. In the end I told him exactly what I wanted, had to select it myself, paid for it and collected it! Then gave it to him so that he could give it to me. Sound fa-miliar?

… And they look good enough to eat.

KAFFE FASSETT 12 & 13 JUNE 2007

We are proud to announce that Kaffe Fassett will be pre-senting a lecture and work-shop for the Quilters’ & Em-broiderers’ Store on the 12th & 13th June 2007 for the Queensland leg of his Austra-lian tour. Lecture The Wonderful World of Colour Come and be entertained and enjoy a slide talk by Kaffe Fas-sett. He will guide you through a kaleidoscope of daz-zling colour and pattern as you travel the world with Kaffe. See where he gathers inspira-tion for his textiles, mosaics and paintings. Gain insights into the origins and construc-tion process of his knitted and patchwork designs. Amusing, not too technical and will be of interest to anyone inter-ested in colour and design. The lecture will run for ap-proximately 1½ hours followed by a book signing. Cost includes a light supper. Cost $25 Tuesday 12 June 6.00pm for 6.30 Venue To be advised Tickets (paid in full and non-

refundable) must be purchased from the Store prior to the lecture. Workshop—Potpourri A complicated collage of florals is the look of this quilt. Large and medium scale floral prints are cut into various sized squares and are arranged cleverly for easy piecing in this riot of colour quilt. The trick is in the placement of the blocks so that the assembly is very quick. Even beginning quiltmakers can tackle this seemingly complex quilt. Class time will be spent arranging & rearranging the squares until a pleasing result is achieved. The cost of this class includes Morning and Afternoon Teas and Lunch. Cost $150 Wednesday 13 June 9.30—4.00 Venue To be advised STOP PRESS: At the time of print-ing, all workshop places were filled through the expressions of interest list. Please advise if you would like your name added to the waiting list in case of cancellations.

Designed by Barb Adams of Blackbird Designs, the needlepocket is made in their lat-est range of fabrics, Nell's Flowershop. The needlepocket is made from prairie cloth and with Fiona’s help you will embellish the pocket with hand appliquéd felt lilies—just the thing to store your needles.
