Sunday Night Service – As Announced

We would like to welcome all new incoming members of 2020 joining

our church family at Pershing Park Baptist Church. God adds to the

church such as should be saved, and we look forward to your presence

and participation in building up the Kingdom of God and sharing His

love.

Page 2: THE PROCLAIMER - APRIL 2020 - Pershing Park · Over 2000 years ago, Jesus shed His blood on a cross for all of us, that we may have forgiveness of our sins. In the book of Matthew,

To Members and Guests of Pershing Park Baptist Church: Our mission statement states, we embrace freedom in worship. We believe that your health and safety is a huge

part of that freedom. Each week our teams prepare extensively for your arrival and this week and the coming weeks are

no different. WE WILL not be holding weekly services at The Park until further notice but will be coming to you by way of Facebook and our churches website. During this time, we will be monitoring this developing situation closely and staying in contact with health agencies and experts to ensure your worship experience is safe. Due to the numerous warnings which have been issued by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Pershing

Park Baptist Church encourages everyone to heed the advice of the CDC and US State Department. • Campus Cleaning: We spend hours each week cleaning our facilities. We are working to enhance our already thorough

cleaning procedures in the interest of our staff, volunteers, members and guests. • Greeting: We are a welcoming and loving church and as you know, we express that each week by hugging, shaking hands, etc. But we are asking that you keep that to a minimum head nods, waves and even just speaking to reduce person to person contact.

• Practicing Good Health Habits: Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

The CDC has recommended that those with weak immune systems and preexisting health conditions may have to consider reducing their person to person contact.

In the meantime, consider 2 Timothy 1:7 which says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” As believers, we have the authority which Christ has given us to pray against the spread of any disease and to pray for healing for those who have the Coronavirus. We also have the ability through His Spirit to bring peace and comfort amid anxiety and confusion by reaching out to those in need.

Take a moment and look around you. Who are those people in your life that may be thankful for a helping hand

during this time? Offer to run errands for those who have high-risk health concerns or send a note of encouragement. The tendency is to go into a self-protective mode and isolate; however, we can show others that they are not alone. How the church loves well is important. Through it all, pray and ask the Lord to point us back to His truth in all we say and do. We look forward to worshipping with you soon,

Page 3: THE PROCLAIMER - APRIL 2020 - Pershing Park · Over 2000 years ago, Jesus shed His blood on a cross for all of us, that we may have forgiveness of our sins. In the book of Matthew,

OH THE BLOOD!

What is blood? It’s a bodily fluid in animals that delivers necessary substances such as nutrients and oxygen to cells and transports metabolic waste products away from those same cells. The average adult has about five liters of blood living inside

of their body, coursing through their veins and vessels, delivering essential elements,

and removing harmful wastes. Without blood, the human body would stop working.

Blood is the fluid of life, transporting oxygen from the lungs to body tissue and

carbon dioxide from body tissue to the lungs. Blood is the fluid of growth,

transporting nourishment from digestion and hormones from glands throughout the

body. Blood is the fluid of health, transporting disease fighting substances to the

tissue and waste to the kidneys.

Because it contains living cells, blood is alive!

The Bible tells us “Without shedding of blood there is no remission [of sin]” (Heb

9:22 (NIV). People think that sin is forgiven by time, by our good works, by our

decent lives, or by simply death. But there is no forgiveness without the shedding of

blood.

Over 2000 years ago, Jesus shed His blood on a cross for all of us, that we may have

forgiveness of our sins. In the book of Matthew, in chapter 26:19-30, we have Jesus

eating the “Passover” meal. Verse 28 tells us “This is my blood of the covenant,

which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins”.

Jesus is telling us that His blood is the new covenant between God and Man. His

blood from that point on would be the precious blood that would reconcile us to God

for the forgiveness of our sins. When Jesus was being crucified, John 19:34 tells us

that “Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden

flow of blood and water” (NIV).

So this Easter, remember it was the precious blood of our Savoir Jesus Christ that

has saved us from our sins and redeemed us to God and heaven.

Be Blessed

Minister Jonathan

Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; 'For

YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my

salvation.' "

Isaiah 12:2 (NKJV)

Trust me, and don't be afraid. Many things feel out of control.

Your routines are not running smoothly. You tend to feel more

secure when your life is predictable. Let Me lead you to the rock

that is higher than you and your circumstances. Take refuge in the

shelter of My wings, where you are absolutely secure.

When you are shaken out of your comfortable routines, grip My

hand tightly and look for growth opportunities. Instead of

bemoaning the loss of your comfort, accept the challenge of

something new. I lead you on from glory to gory, making you fit

for My Kingdom. So, say yes to the ways I work in your life, Trust

Me, and don't be afraid.

Your Savior,

Jesus

Blessings,

Minister Ann Woodard

As I write this article, we are all experiencing a time that we have never had to

experience before. But we, as the people of God, know that we serve a God who has

dominion over all sicknesses and disease. We also know that we serve a God who

requires us to honor those who are in charge. As our directive to “shelter in place”, I

pray that we are honoring this directive to the best of our ability and are “sheltering in

place” with the Lord.

As most of you know, most of our activities have been placed on hold or completely

canceled. The BLUME Conference has been cancelled until the year 2021. For those of

you who participated in our silent auction, the auction ends on March 31, 2020.

Therefore, the person with the highest bid will win the item. Emily Fortune will call and

let you know if you won and how much you will need to pay. If you are contacted, you

can pay and pick up your basket at church during office hours. Special thanks to those

who participated in this activity, to those who participated in our past activities, and

to those who had signed up to participate in other activities that had to be cancelled.

All monies collected will remain in the GA’s designated fund. We are still working on

our Women’s Conference and have chosen the date of October 16-17, 2020, as our date for

the conference.

In addition, Emily Fortune and I we are still working on a way to complete Children’s

Bible Drill for Quenen Houston. We are so proud of him and our Wee Drillers and

want to make every effort to make sure that they receive the honors that they so

deserve.

Finally, I thank God for you and pray that you are “STANDING STRONG WITH THE

LORD”. Be blessed and stay safe!

Elva L. Chase, Women’s Ministry Leader

Just A Bit of Humor: Never say what you will never do. Most of you know that I have

said that I will never work with children. Well, here I am trying to do schoolwork with

my two grand children who are 1st and 3rd grade. I have to have a belt in one hand (the

rod of discipline) and a clenched fist on the other hand. My hats off to all the

elementary school teachers. Take comfort in the fact that I don’t want your job!

Music Department JUST PRAISE HIM

God has been so gracious and kind to us. He continues to add to our numbers each week. It

is such a pleasure to work with the music ministry of the church. I would like for each of us

to do the best that we can to glorify HIM through music.

“In prayer, it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart. Songs of

worship arise from a life of worship, and we must never rest until everything inside of us

worships God. Singing, Worshipping, and praising is our response to the love, grace and

mercy given to through the heart of God

M--Music is the prayer the heart sings.

U--Understand that Praise is the rehearsal of our eternal song.

S--Sometimes, music is the only medicine the heart and soul needs.

I--Instruments play the notes as they are written, but it is God who makes the music

C—Close your eyes and let the music set you free.

“By grace, we learn to sing and in Glory, we continue to sing.”—Charles Spurgeon

I invite you to become a part of the Music Ministry at the “Park”.

DISCIPLES OF SILENT

PRAISE PRAISE DANCE AND MIME

MINISTRY

Let us praise His name with the dance! (Psalm 149:3) Dancing is how we express with our bodies what our hearts feels towards the Lord. We must be expressive with both our bodies and faces, so that

everyone can see the joy we feel within our hearts. We may wave our arms above our heads, clap wildly, sway our bodies, and move our heads

to the music, but we won’t let anyone tell us that our style of praise is wrong. If it is praise, there is no right or wrong way. We don’t only

minister to our brothers and sisters in Christ, but we minister to ourselves as well. We are continuously seeking God to show Himself in us that we

may be pleasing in His sight and do what He has called us to do; to minister to His people through dance.

The 2020 Census is Here!

According to the Census Bureau, the goal of the Census is to

count every person who lives in the United States, “once, only

once, and in the right place” including people of all ages, races,

geographic locations and birth origin. Getting counted in "the right

place" is important because it determines where billions of dollars

in federal funds for housing, education, transportation, and

healthcare are allocated, and because our community is

consistently undercounted – funds are lost each year. The other

piece to being counted, and counted in the right place, is political

power. When communities of color are undercounted in the

Census, the voting power in their legislative district weakens.

Beginning on March 12th, households everywhere will begin

receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on

how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail.

And on April 1st, Census Day will be observed nationwide

and you'll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1,

2020. College students are encouraged to be counted where they

attend school and military members are encouraged to be counted

where they reside. For additional information visit

www.census.gov or makeblackcount.com.
