11: 00 am Mass For the Parishioners of St. Mark’s Parish

Easter is in Sight! We are getting things in place to celebrate the great event that the season of Lent aims at: The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is the source of our Christian identity. Please set aside these times in your agendas: • Holy Thursday, April 13, 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper • Good Friday, April 14, 3:00 p.m. Celebration of the Lord’s Passion • Holy Saturday, April 15, 9:00 p.m. Easter Vigil • Easter Sunday, April 16, 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The Archbishop invites us to the Chrism Mass The chrism oil used for Baptism and Confirmation, and the holy oil used for the anointing of the sick, are consecrated and blessed at the Chrism Mass over which the Bishop presides. It puts into focus that as baptized-confirmed people we have become a consecrated people filled with the Spirit of God’s holiness. Once the oils are consecrated and blessed, they are distributed to representatives from the parishes where these oils are brought in procession into the various churches at the Holy Thursday celebration. The Chrism Mass is celebrated at Saint-Joseph Cathedral (245 boul. St. Joseph, Hull sector) on Wednesday of Holy Week. All parishioners in the diocese are invited to attend this Mass, April 12 at 7:00 p.m.

The Way of the Cross through Aylmer The churches in Aylmer have a beautiful tradition - on Good Friday, April 14, members of the different Aylmer Christian communities walk the Way of the Cross by going from church to church. We start at St. Paul’s parking lot at 11:00 a.m. and conclude at St. Mark’s Church where a “Hunger Lunch” will be served by our CWG. All are welcome to join us! Easter Lilies When we celebrate Christ’s victory of life over death at Easter, we want to remember our deceased relatives. In faith, we hold that they are called to share in Christ’s victory over the darkness of death. That is the significance of bringing our Easter lilies to church and having them is part of the Easter decorations. Please bring them into the church starting Tuesday, April 11. You may want to keep in mind that it is good to have some lilies that have both tight buds and “not quite” but “almost open” flowers. Thank you! Remember your hand bells!! Please bring hand bells for Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil. Share Lent Campaign – Development and Peace –– Thank you! Thank you everyone for your generosity and support for last Sunday’s donations. If you still have your D&P’s envelope, there is still time to bring it with you on Easter Sunday; you are also welcome to use a regular envelope which clearly identifies who it is from and that it is for the D&P Share Lent Campaign. Your financial support is very much needed and appreciated. Observe a time of Adoration after Mass on Holy Thursday At the end of Mass on Holy Thursday we move the consecrated bread - which contains for us the self-giving of Jesus, his Body - to a temporary tabernacle. It is good to take some extra time to sit/kneel/stand in awe and adoration of that. The church will be open for adoration until midnight that evening. Please consider staying after the Mass, or returning during the evening to spend some time in prayerful silence before our Lord. Please be sure to leave the church in silence this evening. The Easter Vigil – the most beautiful Mass of the year! The Easter Vigil (9PM on April 15) is the high point of the Easter Triduum. With a rich display of symbols, rites and readings, the church expresses her faith in the mystery that brings her into being. The Easter Vigil begins outside the church at nightfall. We gather around the new Easter fire, a symbol of the light of Christ that lights up the darkness and gives hope to our lives. The priest blesses the fire and the new Paschal candle is blessed and lit by the fire. Each of us have a small candle with which we pass the light of Christ from one to the other. We then process into the church together, lighting it up with light of Christ which we have shared. We listen together to the great story of salvation, renew our baptism in the newly-blessed baptismal water, and celebrate the Eucharist. At the singing of the Gloria, we ring out our joy with hand-bells we have brought from home. If you have never come to the Easter Vigil, this is the year to make it your first!

Youth Group - St. Marks Guest Speaker!! St Mark’s Youth Group invite all parish youth and their parents, to attend an interactive evening with guest speaker, Dave Mills from Montreal. Dave will be leading a fun, thought provoking, challenging and uplifting session called “Choice Matters”. Dave has been a youth minister and guidance counsellor for 30 years. He believes that young people can be trend setters instead of just crowd followers and much of that comes down to making good “Choices”. This session is geared for 12 to 17 yr. olds and parents are welcome too. The youth are encouraged to bring their friends! This is an open invitation to all Aylmer youth and parents alike! Book your calendars for April 20th, 2017 from 7pm – 8pm - St. Mark’s Parish Hall. Syrian Refugee Sponsorship Committee We are very happy to advise everyone that the members of our second sponsored family will be departing on April 18th. Rama and her 2 young children should arrive in Montreal on April 20 and be welcomed by her brother and his family, as well as several members of the SRSC to extend a great big St. Mark's and Canadian welcome! We hope to be able to introduce Rama and her immediate family to our parish family once she has settled. We also were advised that our first sponsored family, who are in Lebanon, are going through the health screening process and it should not be too much longer before they are issued their travel visas. The SRSC will keep you apprised of new developments and thank you for your support and patience in this endeavour. Please keep all of our refugee families in your prayers during these transitions.
