Welcome to Kenotesa publication for bars, taverns, restaurants and clubs sellingthe Ohio Lottery KENO game.

The crisp fall air brings people together. And, before you know it, theholiday season will be here; so, we’re preparing now – starting withequipment upgrades to make Lottery purchases more convenient forcustomers in an era in which people carry less cash.

Ohio Lottery customers can begin making cashless purchasesthrough self-service vending starting Oct. 29. All self-service vendingis being upgraded to take cashless transactions – including creditand debit cards, Apple Pay and other e-wallet payment options. As with anything new, there are bound to be questions, so we’veincluded some answers here too, before the system goes live, and inadvance of your Lottery sales representative’s next visit.

Many of our bar/tavern retailers are part of the OhioLottery’s Liability Deposit Program. That money helpsensure timely payment with an upfront cost that ismanageable for retailers. As sales grow, sometimes theliability deposit needs to be increased and that’s wherethe new Payer Express online payment system comes in.Consider using the convenience of the online Payer Expresssystem to increase your deposit or to pay outstandingLottery bills. Learn more about the option available from theOhio Lottery website on pages 4-5.

With the wrap-up of another fiscal year, we recognize thework of all our Keno-focused retailers. This past year, 92outlets in the bar, tavern and restaurant trade channel hadthe distinction of reaching the $1-million mark in Keno sales, and another 15 fraternal organizations and clubs can now say thatthey have sold $1-million worth of Tap games. Congratulations toeach of you. It’s quite an accomplishment.

Holiday EZPLAY® Games go on sale Nov. 12. After Keno,EZPLAY® Games are among our bar/tavern retailer favorites.Check out these limited-time holiday games and share them withcustomers. Have fun and make the best of these last few months ofthe year. See you in 2018!

Retailer Spotlight: Sauced, New Riegel, OHNestled among cornfields in the tiny village of New Riegel, Sauced – a Lottery retailer -- is a pizza shop and bar owned by Alex and Erin Love. Customers from the village and nearby Tiffin stop by to relax inside the restaurant or on its expansive patio, enjoying its panoramic view. It’s a gathering place for locals, company parties and family events.

And on Sept. 15, Alex and Erin celebrated Sauced’s first anniversary.

How did the Loves get into the business?A jazz musician, Alex grew up in Boston, studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and landed in the restaurant industry. He worked first as a chief; then a consultant, later serving as the general manager and head chief of a Tiffin-area restaurant. He and his wife Erin, a New Riegel native, purchased the pizza shop in 2016, remodeling and expanding the business.

What has Alex learned as a new business owner selling Keno?To keep his business organized, and keep staff focused on serving meals and beverages, Lottery is self-service only inside the restaurant. Alex has an MP vending machine here and is set to receive a second self-serve vending machine – the new Touch & Win – shortly.

Alex and his staff provide full-service support for Kenoand other Lottery games on the patio. He likes to keep things neat and tries to keep bet card and ticket litter to a minimum.

He has sold Lottery in both Michigan and Ohio while working at various restaurants. He serves as a trustee for the Tiffin Fraternal Order of Eagles, which also sells Lottery. He’s had a lot of experience with Keno.

What does Alex say to bar owners considering Keno?“Nowadays, you almost have to have Keno,” says Alex. “It’s easymoney and easy entertainment.” He notices customers who stop byto pick up pizza or have a quick beverage often stay a little longer toplay.

“It’s definitely built business,” he says.

How did the Loves include the Ohio Lottery in the bar’s one-year anniversary celebration?Alex worked closely with his sales representative, Dawn Roach. She set up a special promotion for Sauced, which included a freeEZPLAY® Tic Tac Toe ticket with a $5 purchase of Keno during theanniversary celebration.

Other festivities included live entertainment and an all-day barbequeserved by Alex and a friend.

From long-standing staff who’ve worked with Alex along the way, andother fans who’ve come from other establishments, Sauced is buildinga following.
