THE COLLECT - First Sunday after Pentecost: Trinity Sunday (Page 172 BCP)

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the

confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the

power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and

worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with

the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Fathers

O God, you have given men the privilege of sharing in your act of creation through the

gift of fatherhood. Help us, we pray, so to pattern our lives on that of St. Joseph, that we

may always strive to be attentive to your command and to uphold the virtues of family

life. Give us grace to be loving and supportive, upright and hardworking, and good

examples to our children; for the sake of him who shared the joy of an earthly home, your

Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

REFLECTION FIRST LESSON: Our first lesson is the story of creation.

1st LESSON: 7:30a.m. - Arlene Paul-Kellman 9:30a.m. - Yvette Hoyte

FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: Genesis 1:1-2:3

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and

void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over

the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. And God

saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called

the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was

morning, one day. And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters,

and let it separate the waters from the waters." And God made the firmament and

separated the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above

the firmament. And it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was

evening and there was morning, a second day. And God said, "Let the waters under the

heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so.

God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas.

And God saw that it was good. And God said, "Let the earth put forth vegetation, plants

yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its

kind, upon the earth." And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding

seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each

according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there

was morning, a third day. And God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the

heavens to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and

for days and years, and let them be lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light

Page 3: The new fisherman june 15th, 2014

3

upon the earth." And it was so. And God made the two great lights, the greater light to

rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; he made the stars also. And God set

them in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth, to rule over the day and

over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. And God said, "Let the

waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the

firmament of the heavens." So God created the great sea monsters and every living

creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every

winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them,

saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on

the earth." And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day. And God said, "Let

the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: cattle and creeping things

and beasts of the earth according to their kinds." And it was so. And God made the beasts

of the earth according to their kinds and the cattle according to their kinds, and everything

that creeps upon the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then

God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion

over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the

earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth." So God created man in

his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth

and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and

over every living thing that moves upon the earth." And God said, "Behold, I have given

you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with

seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to

every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the

breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." And it was so. And God saw

everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and

there was morning, a sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the

host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he

rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. So God blessed the

seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had

done in creation.

REFLECTION THE PSALM: A song of praise and rejoicing in which all that has

breath is invited to join.

PSALM:PSALM:PSALM:PSALM: 150 (7:30a.m. - Page 666 BCP)

1. O PRAISE God in his holiness : praise him in the firmament of his power.

2. Praise him in his noble acts : praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3. Praise him in the sound of the trumpet : praise him upon the lute and harp.

4. Praise him in the cymbals and dances : praise him upon the strings and pipe.

5. Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals : praise him upon the loud cymbals.

6. Let every thing that hath breath : praise the Lord.

REFLECTION SECOND LESSON: In this passage Paul closes his painful letter to the

Corinthians with final admonitions and words of peace and love.

2nd LESSON: 7:30a.m. - Norma Springer 9:30a.m. - Church Army

SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: 2 Corinthians 13:(5-10)11-14

[Examine yourselves, to see whether you are holding to your faith. Test yourselves. Do

you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you? -- unless indeed you fail to meet the test! I

hope you will find out that we have not failed. But we pray God that you may not do

Page 4: The new fisherman june 15th, 2014

wrong -- not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right,

though we may seem to have failed. For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only

for the truth. For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. What we pray for is

your improvement. I write this while I am away from you, in order that when I come I

may not have to be severe in my use of the authority which the Lord has given me for

building up and not for tearing down.] Finally, brethren, farewell. Mend your ways, heed

my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be

with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the

Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you

all.

GRADUAL HYMN - 208

REFLECTION THE GOSPEL: In our Gospel reading Jesus makes his last appearance

to his disciples and gives them their mission to baptize and teach through all the world.

These words end Matthew’s Gospel. His mention of doubt on the part of some of the

disciples reminds us that faith has never been an easy matter. But the closing charge is an

authoritative commission to bring others to faith in the name of the Father, Son and Holy

Spirit.

THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: Matthew 28:16-20

The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.

And when they saw him they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said

to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and

make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and

of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am

with you always, to the close of the age."

THE SERMON

THE NICENE CREED - Page 104

Bidding Prayer

Let us pray to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

As the mystery of the Holy Trinity has been revealed to the Church, may she continue

steadfast in that faith…Grant that our differences of order and diversity of worship may

find reconciliation in the unity of love and service.

Now let the glory revealed in Jesus Christ fill the whole world with the message of salva-

tion…May the voice that proclaimed him at the River Jordan be a voice to bring all na-

tions to his service.

In our relationships, in all our community, grant us the mutual love that has no limits and

seeks no advantage…Be at the heart of our family lives, making them images of the love

that is in the Holy Trinity.

We pray for those who suffer from oppression and the inequalities of society…Grant

them relief and give them perfect freedom in the body and mind…Have mercy on all who

are led astray by false beliefs, and bring them to the true faith.

We give thanks for the departed who now live in continual praise of God, the Three in

One…In the presence where all mysteries are made known, may they rejoice in his glory.

We offer our prayers in the name of Christ, who lives and reigns with the Father and the

Holy Spirit. Amen.

Love in action

One night a man came to our house and told me, “There is a family with eight children.

They have not eaten for days,” I took some food and I went. When I finally came to the

family, I saw the faces of those little children disfigured by hunger. There was no sorrow

or sadness in their faces, just the deep pain of hunger. I gave the rice to the mother. She

divided it in two, and went out, carrying half the rice with her. When she came back, I

asked her, “Where did you go?” She gave me this simple answer, “To my neighbors-they

are hungry also.”

I was not surprised that she gave–because poor people are generous. But I was surprised

that she knew they were hungry. As a rule, when we are suffering, we are so focused on

ourselves we have no time for others.

–Mother Teresa
