Students will then take the two weeks of winter holidays. After a long and very busy term I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing holiday. Students will return on Tuesday 20 th July. SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY 3 On Monday the 19 th July, staff from Brisbania Public School will participate in a staff training day. In the morning staff will attend a combined technology session at Erina High School. They will undertake workshops on Interactive Whiteboards, Moodle, Blogs and other applications to increase their repertoire of skills. In the afternoon staff will undertake their mandatory CPR training. This training is vital so that staff are prepared in the case of an emergency. Students do not attend on this day. DRUMBALA AT CENTRAL COAST SHOWCASE A team from our Drumbala drumming group will be joining students from other schools to perform at this week’s Central Coast Public Education Showcase. This is a real honour for our drummers and recognition of their talent and hard work. Students will perform at the matinee and evening shows. The drummers that will be performing are Jarrod, Vanessa, Kye, Ellie, Jaida, and Ruby. Thanks to Katy and Warren, our drumming teachers, for their enthusiasm and dedication. Thanks to Mrs Swanston for providing transport. CENTRAL COAST DANCE FESTIVAL Congratulations to our boys’ and girls’ dance groups on their spectacular performances at last week’s Central Coast Dance Festival. The boys’ group looked great in their orange vests and fringes. I was sitting next to Mr Potter, the Deputy Regional Director for Education, and he was certainly impressed by our boys. Many of the boys showed real attitude and style which endeared them to the audience. Our girls’ group performed beautifully on Friday to “Bella’s Lullaby”. Once again our dance group stood out amongst other primary school groups. Our dance wasn’t just simply moving to music or an aerobics routine it was a meaningful interpretation of the music and required more advanced dance skills form our girls. Well done boys and girls. Great job Mrs Heazlewood and her helpers. BOYS SOFTBALL Congratulations to our boys’ softball team who have advanced to the 5th round of the state knockout. On Friday our team defeated Woodport 11-9 then Umina, in an absolute heart-stopper, 11-10. The boys displayed a high level of team spirit and determination. Thanks to Mrs Tialshinsky (super coach) and all the parents for their support. If we win this game we will be Central Coast Champions. See report inside.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS It was great to see so many parents at the K – 4 parent/teacher interviews last Thursday afternoon. Feedback from parents was very positive and I appreciate the many parents who took the time to thank teachers for their extra efforts with students. We are lucky to have a very dedicated and professional staff. Interviews for Years 5 & 6 will be held on Wednesday 21st July.

CANBERRA EXCURSION Our Year 6 students left for Canberra this morning at a very important time in our political history. I’m sure the events of the last few days will make the excursion even more significant. Thanks to Mrs Whelan, Mr Long and Mr Anderson for taking the students away. The excursion is due back at school at approximately 6.00pm on Wednesday. Check our school website for updates and listen to Radio 2GO if the bus is late.

UNIFORM MEETING (repeat) A meeting of parents and caregivers will be held on Thursday 1st July at 7.30pm in the school Library to consider changes to the school uniform. At last week’s P & C meeting it was decided to offer an alternative for consideration at the meeting. Samples of the materials and design will be available at the meeting. Making changes to the uniform is not an easy task as to get consensus amongst 300 families will be difficult. The P & C believe the alternative they will present addresses many of the concerns raised by parents in the recent survey. • A different material for the polo whilst, predominantly, retaining the Brisbania green colour. • A more up-to-date uniform • More consistency/Fewer variations • Cost effective – the cost of the new uniform will be similar to the current costs (it will, most likely, be cheaper depending on what is adapted) The alternative offered will be: 1. A new panelled polo shirt (See our website for an image - http://www.brisbania-p.schools.nsw.edu.au )

The new polo will be predominantly Brisbania green in colour with maroon panels on the sides and sleeves plus white piping. It will be a microfibre material.

2. Black bottoms across the range. So black shorts for boys, black skorts for girls. Black trousers for boys, black bootlegs for girls. (white socks)

3. The Brisbania dress retained for girls in K – 2 only 4. Other items remain unchanged. Jackets, hats, black shoes, black sports shorts,

scarves

2011 KINDER ENROLMENTS With 2010 racing by it’s time for us to start looking forward to 2011. We are now looking to take Kindergarten enrolments for 2011. So if you have a little one to start next year or know of other kinder students in the community please encourage them to contact the school office for an enrolment package. Maintaining strong Kinder enrolments is the best way to ensure the school continues to receive a good level of resourcing. Michael Burgess Principal

The school band is a fun thing to do for those in Year 3 to 6. In the music storeroom there are many instruments waiting to be played by YOU! The instruments available are:

• The clarinet – my favourite • The saxophone – a brass coloured woodwind instrument, like the one

that Lisa Simpson plays on The Simpsons • The flute – a beautiful sounding long silver wind instrument • The trumpet – a loud brass instrument you will have heard at ANZAC

Day services • The Trombone – a deep sounding brass instrument that has a slide

you pull to change pitch • The bass guitar - for those who like to REALLY feel the beat, and • Last but not least, the drums with many little percussion toys for those

who like to hit things! There is a band solo night where you get a chance to perform in front of parents. We also perform at some school ceremonies like ANZAC Day and Presentation days. Once you’ve learnt how to play your instrument you can participate in musical groups out of school too. If you’re in Year 3 or over and you want to join the band we have practice on Fridays with Mr Stoner and Mr Kay. We have a music lesson during class time, also on Fridays, before recess. If you are interested in joining the band, please see Miss Iles for more information. Madeline Graham 5/6A

What a result for Brisbania on Friday as our Boys Softball team played themselves into the Central Coast NSW PSSA final. They first defeated Woodport 11-9 then Umina in an absolute heart-stopper (especially for parents and teachers) 11-10! They will now meet the best of the other half of the draw to determine the overall Central Coast champion school. Irrespective of that result, the achievements of our boys thus far are nothing short of outstanding. An exceptional feature of this group of boys is their team spirit as evidenced by Lachlan M and Adam F who were prepared to start off the bench in the final game. This game featured a magnificent triple play from Nicholas L, Ryan E and Lindsay P who played 3rd, 2nd and 1st bases respectively. Strong batting performances were delivered by Kurt R, Blake L, Nicholas L and Robert S. Consistent pitching from Nathan N laid the basis for Brisbania’s success along with his ability to adjust to different requirements from umpires. Jakk B and Josh Mc provided invaluable batting runs on the scoresheet. Of course, many thanks to our parents and family members who transported the children, provided vocal support and scored the games on the day.

WHAT A TEAM! WHAT AN EFFORT! GO BRISBANIA!!!
