THE INTRAMURAL AND CAMPUS

RECREATION PROGRAM

The Intramural/ Campus Recreation Pro­gram provides a wide variety of sports and recreational activities for the univer­sity community. The broad recreational program offered hopes to fill the needs of every student, faculty , and staff person at the Uruversi· ty.

There are nine areas of offering: cam-pus recreation, team ac­tivities, individual and dual activities, co-recreational activi-ties, recreational clinics, Outdoor Shop rental, recreational equipment rental, special or sponsored events, handi­capped activities.

Relaxation, proper use of leisure time, achievement, and maintenance of good mental and physical health through physical exercise are basic needs which

can be realized through this program.

The camping and recrea­tional equipment rooms located

in Johnson Gym rent outdoor and recreational equipment: roller skates,

bicycles, badminton sets, softball equip· ment, horseshoes, croquet sets, volleyball

sets, tents, backpacks etc.

Charlie Harrison was the main story behind Lobo basketball at UNM - the loss of eight players due to ineligibility, the head coach and his assistant, left acting head coach Harrison to lead a team comprised mostly of walk-on pl.ayers to a 6-22 overall and a 3-11 finish In the WAC.

UNM PANHELLENIC COUNCIL The University of New Mexico Panhellenic Council consists of two delegates from each of the six !lororities on

campus. The organization enforces the unanimous agreements adopted by all the sororities, and helps keep commu­nication and cooperation between the houses. Panhellenic is bound by the Panhellenic Creed to encourage good scholarship, high standards of social conduct, and promote Greek life.

The nation watched as Californians staged the "Great Tax Revolt," better known as Proposition 13. Champions of world peace were weary with the loss of two Popes, the Russian spy trials, the People's Temple mass suicide and murders ln Guyana, and continued tension in the Middle East. Issues still pending were the ERA, the Neutron Bomb, the "Self Rule" plan in Rhodesia, paraquat poisonings, Cuban tension and the threat of Cold War. Muhammad Ali was upset and all of America caught "Saturday Night Fever."
