Bolyard, Jr. Church Office Phone…532-7606 Website…www.trinitywb.org Email…[email protected] [email protected] FROM THE PASTOR Theme for the Year: A Year of Positivity Dear Members and Friends: For the month of October, we will continue to fulfill one of our Matthew 28 prescriptions with the in-depth study of the book, Five Practices of Fruitful Living. Our Sunday School classes and Bible Studies are reading and studying the same book so that we can grow in our faith together. “Growing in Grace” (The Practice of Intentional Faith Development) is our theme for World Communion Sunday, October 2 nd . This is also the Sunday that we will be voting on continuing our merger plans with the churches of the Leesburg Charge (Special Church Conference at 10:00 a.m.). Bishop Robert Schnase writes, “People who practice Intentional Faith Development avail themselves of increasingly more challenging learning opportunities….Supported by community…They pray for one another, stay in touch, follow-up, express sympathy, and practice compassion. They love people without fully understanding them.” p. 85 On Sunday, October 9 th , our worship theme is “Loving and Serving Others” (The Practice of Risk-Taking Mission and Service). Bishop Schnase writes, “The practice of Risk-Taking Mission and Service pushes us out of our comfort zone and into places we would never go on our own. Those who practice Risk-Taking Mission and Service…practice service with passion and intentionality, pouring themselves out for others.” p. 103 Sunday, October 16 th is both laity Sunday and Children’s Sabbath. I will be on vacation this Sunday, but our speaker will continue to speak on the Five Practices of Fruitful Living. The theme for this week is “The Grace of Giving” (The Practice of Extravagant Generosity). Bishop Schnase concludes, “Through our generosity, God can do extraordinary things. Through our giving, God changes lives, and in changing them, transforms us.” p. 137. I will still be on vacation for Sunday, October 23 rd . Our speaker will speak on the final chapter of the book entitled, “Fruitful Living and Offering God’s Love.” “Jesus uses fruitfulness to draw our attention to the impact, the consequence of our life in Christ. He describes kingdom fruit, the effect and promise of the reign of God and the difference it makes to live in God. Fruit refers to what Christ accomplishes through us” Bishop Schnase writes (p. 139). For the final Sunday in October (30 th ), I will speak on the topic of the Epilogue in the book entitled, “Changed From the Inside Out.” Living the Five Practices will enable us to be changed from the inside out. Please join us each exciting week as we conclude the book, Five Practices of Fruitful Living in October. Prayerfully yours, Pastor Harold

Theme for the Year: A Year of Positivity

Dear Members and Friends:

For the month of October, we will continue to fulfill one of our Matthew 28 prescriptions with

the in-depth study of the book, Five Practices of Fruitful Living. Our Sunday School classes

and Bible Studies are reading and studying the same book so that we can grow in our faith

together.

“Growing in Grace” (The Practice of Intentional Faith Development) is our theme for World Communion

Sunday, October 2nd

. This is also the Sunday that we will be voting on continuing our merger plans with the

churches of the Leesburg Charge (Special Church Conference at 10:00 a.m.). Bishop Robert Schnase writes,

“People who practice Intentional Faith Development avail themselves of increasingly more challenging learning

opportunities….Supported by community…They pray for one another, stay in touch, follow-up, express

sympathy, and practice compassion. They love people without fully understanding them.” p. 85

On Sunday, October 9th

, our worship theme is “Loving and Serving Others”

(The Practice of Risk-Taking Mission and Service). Bishop Schnase writes,

“The practice of Risk-Taking Mission and Service pushes us out of our

comfort zone and into places we would never go on our own. Those who

practice Risk-Taking Mission and Service…practice service with passion and

intentionality, pouring themselves out for others.” p. 103

Sunday, October 16th

is both laity Sunday and Children’s Sabbath. I will be on vacation this Sunday, but our

speaker will continue to speak on the Five Practices of Fruitful Living. The theme for this week is “The Grace

of Giving” (The Practice of Extravagant Generosity). Bishop Schnase concludes, “Through our generosity, God

can do extraordinary things. Through our giving, God changes lives, and in changing them, transforms us.”

p. 137.

I will still be on vacation for Sunday, October 23rd

. Our speaker will speak on the final chapter

of the book entitled, “Fruitful Living and Offering God’s Love.” “Jesus uses fruitfulness to draw

our attention to the impact, the consequence of our life in Christ. He describes kingdom fruit, the

effect and promise of the reign of God and the difference it makes to live in God. Fruit refers to

what Christ accomplishes through us” Bishop Schnase writes (p. 139).

For the final Sunday in October (30th

), I will speak on the topic of the Epilogue in the book entitled, “Changed

From the Inside Out.” Living the Five Practices will enable us to be changed from the inside out.

Please join us each exciting week as we conclude the book, Five Practices of Fruitful Living in October.

Prayerfully yours, Pastor Harold

October 30 Changed From the Inside Out After a long haul to get my leg working again after being hit by a car in October. I hope I am heading for a

full recovery.

Ten Months was a long time on my back in bed and away from home for every holiday from Halloween to

the 4th of July and my birthday. It was a new experience for me and Danielle being left alone. I thank her

for all her help with my affairs and keeping house together.

I want to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, visits, snacks, gifts and words of hope for the future.

And to Gigi for handling Sunday office duties.

Also thanks to the Lions Club and Doug Goodhart for the great ramp and use of a wheelchair for as long

as needed.

Thanks and prayers to all.

LIFE IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW! MAKE IT COUNT!

Father, We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love, and walk in the ways of your truth. We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity. We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned, men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion, or gender. We ask for leaders whose minds and hearts will bring us closer to your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Trinity’s Future The possibility of Cleversburg, Hays Grove, Leesburg, and Trinity merging has now been discussed for months. Two special dates were set for September 25 and October 2. The September meeting at 6 PM in the Cleversburg church was set up as a town

hall meeting for members of all four churches. The October 2 date was set up at 10 AM as the time to vote on the proposed merger: “Are you as a congregation willing to participate in crafting a plan for merger of Cleversburg, Hays Grove, Leesburg, and Trinity with the plan to be finished by March 30, 2017?” Many thanks go to all the committee members who have spent many hours in discussions about the aspects of a possible merger. Trinity’s committee is made up of Pastor Harold Bolyard, Marylue Durff, Tom Holmes, Beverly Rosenberry, and Mike Wadel. They welcome your questions or suggestions.

Important things to remember in the coming months: Keep an open mind. Be receptive. Communicate.

Listen. Be positive. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Can you help? Juanita Gail Crumling is still in need of a kidney. She came very close to a transplant on September 10, but the donated kidney was too damaged to be used. Please share this important need with anyone who might possibly be a donor or anyone who can possibly help spread the info far and wide. Contact any member of the Handshew family with any information. (Juanita Gail Crumling, Janet Grove, Hazel Kunkleman, Mary Wadel) Also, check the bulletin board near the church office for further information on kidney donations. In the meantime, please pray fervently for Gail’s health and for a donor to be found soon. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Outdoor Movie Night - Thank you! Thank you to Dixie Coons and Cristy Lentz and all those who planted the seed and then helped with the outdoor showing of the movie “Courageous” on Friday evening, September 9. An inflatable screen next to the pavilion was set up for the 8 PM showing. An appreciative crowd enjoyed the message and expressed interest in having more movie nights. “Courageous” ended just in time before a rainstorm that brought 2” of much needed rainfall.

Country Christmas Craft Show

Saturday, November 12 8 AM until 2 PM

It’s coming! Country Christmas Craft Show will be here soon! Please sign up to help with set up, clean up, and the craft show itself. Many helpers are needed to make another successful show. Look for the sign-up sheets! Another way of helping is to hand out flyers to all your friends, and post info in the various businesses you patronize. Posters and flyers are available next to the mailboxes near the church office. Information and applications for the November 12 craft show are posted on the church website. If you - or someone you know - make crafts, please go to www.trinitywb.org. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

THANK

YOU!

September 11 Patriot’s Day, Grandparents’ Day, Outdoor Worship, Church Picnic, Retirement Celebration, Fun & Games… Thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make the outdoor worship service and picnic a memorable event for all participants! The weather was perfect, and everything was well organized. Winnefred Pattison, recently retired organist, was pleasantly surprised at the picnic with the attendance of many of her family members, a card shower, a gift card for a tree for her yard, flowers, and a framed photo collage. She says she is not completely retired, so we will still get to hear her play the organ occasionally. Many thanks go to the Worship Committee

members and to all attendees! Comments were overheard on the special day that “we need to do this more often!”

Benefit Concert for Tara – September 10 Thank you to the Trinity members who attended and to the Jacksonville Lions Club for helping at the concert at the Newville Lions Club fairgrounds.

The Gabriel Quartet and the Cornerstone Quartet sang gospel songs for over three

hours on one of the hottest days of summer, and raised an offering of approximately $1,300, all for the Garman family for Tara’s medical expenses. Additional money for Tara was earned with Dianne Bolyard’s book signings, donations at a bake sale, and food sales during the evening. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

LESSONS FROM LIFE from our District Superintendent

Of all the household maintenance chores, painting is one that many people say they enjoy. How much better do we feel when woodwork that is weathered, chipped, or peeling is transformed into something beautiful and pristine by a fresh coat of paint. How much more confidence do we have that wood products will last longer when they are covered with good paint. Of course, it doesn’t hurt our enjoyment level that the actual work of painting is not all that difficult. The work of preparation is another story, though. As much as people enjoy painting, most everyone dreads the idea of washing, scraping, sanding, taping, and everything else that must go into preparing a surface to receive new paint. But such prep work is necessary and crucial for the new paint to stick properly so that the best job will result. Without such careful preparation of the wood, the new paint might not adhere well, thus revealing the old paint or unfinished surface underneath. Receiving the Word of God in our lives is much like receiving a new coat of paint. It changes us from being weathered, chipped, and peeling from the ravages of sin and the world into something beautiful and pristine in the eyes of God. How much more confident are we not only to survive but to thrive in a world full of sin when we are covered with the good Word of God. As such, reading, studying, learning, and meditating upon the Word of God can bring great joy to us. But to receive God’s Word properly so that it will stick longer in our lives takes the hard work of preparation, too. Christian author Chuck Swindoll once observed that it is harder to prepare a surface to receive the paint when it has already been painted. The surface of our character has, in fact, already been coated and stained with sin. We have been plastered with the teaching and ways of the world. All of that needs to be removed for us to hear accurately the Word of God. Swindoll says, “Without preparation, we simply whitewash our lives with knowledge, which will quickly peel, revealing an unchanged character underneath.” The first chapter of the Letter of James says that to be able to receive God’s truth properly we need to prepare ourselves to receive it. The hard and tedious prep work we need to undertake includes a readiness to listen and not just hear, to listen to God more and speak less, to rid ourselves of anger and all moral filth and wickedness which form a barrier between us and God, and the development of a humble, teachable attitude. Here in the Harrisburg District let us help our people and each other prep our lives so that we all can benefit from a fresh coating of the Word of God. Privileged to be serving with you as we strive to make our churches be places that are more like Christ (holy), welcoming (home), and life-giving (hope). News & Notes, 9/14/2016, Rev. Barry C. Eagle Scout Project Drew Mancuso, South Newton Township resident, will be constructing a walkway between the pavilion and the grove of pines. The Trustees approved the idea, and Drew

will begin more detailed planning. Hopefully he will receive your support and help when needed to improve our outdoor facilities.

Your Garden Kind hearts are the

gardens.

Kind thoughts are the roots.

Kind words are the flowers.

Kind deeds are the fruits.

Take care of your garden,

And keep out the weeds.

Fill it with sunshine,

Kind words, and kind

THE POWER OF ONE One tree can start a forest.

One smile can begin a friendship. One hand can lift a soul.

One word can frame the goal. One candle can wipe out darkness.

One laugh can conquer gloom. One touch can show you care.

One life can make the difference. Be that ONE today!
