North Parking Lot Construction The North parking lot construction has begun. The project will take 60 to 75 days to complete. We are asking everyone to stay away from the North Side, including walking around the building on the North sidewalk. More information will be shared as the project gets underway. Please be aware of the ex- tra construction vehicles that will access our shared alley to the West as they go through our West lot to get to the construction site. Residents and their guests are reminded not to park their vehicles in the Highland Lakes Medical Center or Sabal Ridge Shopping Center parking lots. Midweek MovieThe Midweek Movie for Wednesday, Oc-

tober 3, is Singin’ in the Rain starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds,

and Jean Hagen. 1927 Hollywood. Monu-mental Pictures’ biggest stars, glamorous on-screen couple Lina Lamont and Don Lockwood, are also an off-screen couple if the trade papers and gossip col-umns are to be believed. Both perpetuate the public perception if only to please their adoring fans and bring people into the movie theaters. When the tran-sition is being made from silent films to talking pic-tures, everyone has trouble adapting. Don and Lina have been cast repeatedly as a romantic couple, but when their latest film is remade into a musical, only Don has the voice for the new singing part. After a lot of practice with a diction coach, Lina still sounds terrible, and Kathy, a bright young aspiring actress, is hired to record over her voice. This 1951 film is 1 hour and 43 minutes long and will be shown at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Rated G.

The SynchroBelles of Highland Lakes

On Tuesday, October 2, the SynchroBelles of High-

land Lakes will put on their synchronized swimming show called “Colors of the World” at 2:00 p.m. in the Pool. This local group of talented performers always puts on a memorable show; you may want to come early to get a good seat. Please note: The pool will be closed from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the day of the show to allow the group to practice.

Healthy Vision Eye ScreeningsThe Healthy Vision Institute and a representative

from the office of Dr. James Powers, Vitreoretinal Surgeon, will offer on-site comprehensive eye exams for the detection of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma. Healthy Vision uses the most advanced equipment available and the new portable retina imaging system. No pain, no di-lation, and no cost! Ladies LuncheonThe Ladies Luncheon will be held on Thursday,

Join us for a fang-tastic Halloween event on Saturday, October 27, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. There will be trick-or-treating in the South Hall. Em-ployees and Residents alike are invited to bring their children, grandchildren and/or great-grandchildren in costume for a fun and safe spooktacular time. Plenty of chills and thrills are planned—there will be face painting, coloring pages, and more! Residents that wish to purchase their own candy to pass out to the little ghosts, goblins, and ghouls are welcome to do so. If you would like to hang around for a spell, please sign-up on the bulletin board and indicate whether you will be purchasing candy or passing out SMV candy. Also, include the number of chil-dren you have coming to the event so we can assure there will be enough Halloween sweets and treats for everyone. Join us as we celebrate together—don’t be a scaredy cat! Two Volunteers are needed to help out at each table: the face painting table, the coloring pages table, and the refresh-ments table.
