Connecting with Workforce Solutions

Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art education and training programs in Technologies. These programs provide individuals the opportunity to access and develop the knowledge and skills essential for transition to employment, and the opportunity for life-long training and retraining in a constantly changing job market.

Grand Valley State University, one of the 100 largest universities in the nation, attracts more than 25,000 students with high-quality programs and state-of-the-art facilities. Grand Valley offers 91 undergraduate and 39 graduate degree programs and serves students from all 83 Michigan counties and dozens of other states and foreign countries.

The School of Engineering at Grand Valley State University provides unique educational opportunities for students at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The school’s mission is to prepare students to assume engineering positions in industry with the potential to advance to leadership positions.

Purdue University Fort Wayne has recently introduced the School of Polytechnic, an integration of six majors focused upon the implementation of technology. Polytechnic programs use math and science methods and tools to identify practical applications of available technology to solve real-world problems and to identify ways to improve business, industrial, or manufacturing environments or processes. The six Polytechnic majors are Construction Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology, Information Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Calvin College’s engineering program prepares students to solve complex problems and create innovative designs by offering concentrations in chemical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering. A liberal arts foundation provides students with opportunities to develop communication skills, enhance critical thinking, and

engage in broad-based learning that equips them to work effectively in a huge variety of contexts and assume leadership roles. International and sustainability designations provide students with additional training that aligns with particular industry needs.

The Grand Rapids Community College Applied Technology Department includes two occupational areas: Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Heating and our Electronics programs. Each of these areas would make an excellent career choice with good job opportunities, good pay and good working conditions. Both of these

programs can easily transfer to bachelor’s degree programs at neighboring universities.

The mission of the Applied Technology and Manufacturing departments is to prepare learners to pursue careers in the manufacturing and service industries, and to increase the knowledge of manufacturing professionals and technical staff who wish to contribute to enhancing industrial competition. Our programs focus on the application of high-tech production equipment, software and techniques to

opportunities in the areas of weld tech, facilities layout, process development, product development, quality control, technical sales and warehousing. Graduates are eligible for articulation into a variety of baccalaureate degree programs.
