The Gospel According to Greg

Greg Taylor [email protected]

If you missed second service on Sunday, you missed a really special event as our

own Johnson Flanagan was ordained into Christian ministry. It was encouraging and uplifting to hear Johnson and his wife Stasi share about the call of God on their life to

university campus ministry. The Flanagans will be relocating to Dekalb, IL within the next year and will begin working to re-energize the Northern Illinois University campus ministry. I would encourage you to lift up the Flanagans in prayer as they begin to follow

God’s call on their lives.

This Sunday will conclude our brief three week sermon series entitled “The Salvation Highway.” Each week we have focused on two of the six scriptures from the book of

Romans we know as the Roman Road. Up to this point we have studied four of the six:

Romans 3:23 – “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus

our Lord.”

Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners,

Christ died for us.”

Romans 10:9 – “That if you confess with your mouth, „Jesus is Lord,‟ and believe in your heart

God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

This week we will study Romans 6:4 and Romans 12:1-2 as we discover what God’s

word says about LIFE in Christ. At the conclusion of this series we will make available for you the entire six scripture Roman Road. My hope and prayer is you will learn these

scriptures, but also share this good news with people in your life who are not followers of Jesus Christ. It has been really exciting to see baptisms taking place the last several weeks during second service, and I know of at least three others that are scheduled in the

weeks to come. Share the good news of Jesus – there is power in the word of God!

May is just around the corner, and we will have special Sundays on May 2, 9 and 16. On the 2nd Class Act Kids (grade school music/drama) will present “Music Camp”

during both of our morning services. I was given a “sneak peek” at the script and you will not want to miss this special program. A little bird even told me some of the ministry staff

might make a cameo or two!

On May 9, our annual end of the year Choir cantata will take place during both services, and we will honor the mothers of FCC on Mother’s Day. Then on the 16th, we will

honor our graduates during our second service, and the youth of our church will be in charge of both services as we have our annual “Youth Sunday” at FCC. And on May 30, Kent will read the list of loved ones lost during the past year as part of our annual

Remembrance Sunday.

This Sunday is Little Galilee day at FCC. Ken Rutledge will be sharing briefly about the camp, and we will begin to collect cereal for the camp as well. If you have a child or

grandchild who is interested in attending a camp session this summer at LGCA, see Ernie or Peggy, and they will get you the information needed to sign them up. Don’t forget, FCC

will pay half the cost of one week of camp for your children at Little Galilee.

Have a great week – see you Sunday!

Young At Heart News David Buck, Young At Heart Coordinator

Although people cannot see our thoughts they can see the results of them. What is in our minds and hearts is what comes out through our words. If we have troubled minds we will not live peaceful, serene lives. We will not minister peace to others, because we cannot give to others what we do not have within ourselves. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7 Looking forward to May with the Gospel Messengers coming, and Carol Thompson is coming to give us memories from Weldon Springs. Both have been here before and given us fine programs. We’ll have more good programs as the summer comes and the flowers bloom. Such a fine time of the year for all of us. “Happy times and bygone days are never lost...In truth, they grow more wonderful within the heart that keeps them.” Kay Andrew The Country Opry was a fine evening with the reminder of our friend Rick Roy who always greeted us with a song. In May we’ll travel to the Celebration River Boat at Moline to enjoy a cruise on the Illinois River to the sounds of big bands that we enjoy. The showboat will entertain us in Sullivan, Illinois, on June 20th. July will take us to Hillsboro, IN, for a great show of Hello Dolly and wonderful home cooked food by Donna. The Beef House is on the menu for August with Hopkins and Miller singing and playing for us. Many more trips are planned for your pleasure. “Spring unlocks the flowers to paint the laughing soil.” Bishop Heber Thinking too much about everything we have to do sets the wheels in motion for rushing. We often feel overwhelmed when we think of all the future will require of us. This type of thinking is called anxiety. When we spend today trying to figure out tomorrow we struggle. God gives us grace, which is His strength and power, one day at a time. “You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind is stayed on You…” Isaiah 26:3

VBS CORNER Pre-registration for SonQuest Rainforest is next Sunday, April 25th. This will be an exciting day! During the Sunday School hour Ernie will be giving a preview of the great VBS program to each of the youth departments. There will be cookies, drinks and a special gift for each young person. Don’t miss out on this fun party time. You will receive in the mail this week a registration form for VBS, June 14-18. Please take a minute to fill it out so you can bring it on Sunday. There are several important questions that need to be answered such as if a child has any allergies or if transportation is needed. It is so helpful to all the leaders as they make their plans these next few weeks to know how many will be in their group. Thank you for your cooperation. You are wonderful!

Little Galilee is at our back door. This camp is one of the very best experiences for young people and one of the best outreaches to the non-Christian friends they bring with them. All things considered, Little Galilee is still a great place to come into contact with Jesus and His people. It is the best investment we can make for the Lord. Little Galilee...one of God’s special places where good things happen!
