GENERAL NOTES AND SPECIFICATIONS
GENERAL
SCOPE OF WORK FURNISH ALL LABOR, MATERIALS, TOOLS, SUPPLIES, EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. MATERIALS OR WORK DESCRIBED IN WORDS WHICH HAVE A WELL KNOWN TECHNICAL TRADE MEANING SHALL BE HELD TO THE RECOGNIZED STANDARD. ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE NEW, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
CODES ALL WORK PERFORMED AND MATERIALS USED SHALL MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE 2012 NORTH CAROLINA BUILDING CODE, STATE CODES, AND LOCAL CODES, ORDINANCES, AND REGULATIONS HAVING JURISDICTION.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SECURE AND PAY FOR THE BUILDING PERMIT AND ALL REQUIRED ADDITIONAL PERMITS AND FEES, LICENSES, AND INSPECTIONS NECESSARY FOR THE PROPER EXECUTION AND COMPLETION OF THE WORK.
THE EXISTING BUILDING INFORMATION SHOWN IS DIAGRAMMATIC AND BASED UPON THE BEST INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME; HOWEVER, IT MAY NOT REFLECT ALL FIELD CONDITIONS AT THE TIME OF CONSTRUCTION.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE EXISTING CONDITIONS AND THE COORDINATION OF THE WORK PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. ANY OMISSIONS OR CONFLICT IN THE WORKING DRAWINGS OR BETWEEN THE DRAWINGS AND EXISTING FIELD CONDITIONS WHICH MAY INTERFERE WITH THE PROPER EXECUTION AND COMPLETION OF THE DESCRIBED WORK SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE PARTIES INVOLVED AND THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH THE WORK.
VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS IN THE FIELD PRIOR TO BEGINNING WORK. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE LOCATION AND SIZE OF ALL EXISTING BUILDING ELEMENTS WHICH ARE IN THE AREA OF PROPOSED WORK. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE ENGINEER OF ANY DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THESE PLANS AND EXISTING FIELD CONDITIONS.
CUTTING & PATCHING WHERE EXISTING ELEMENTS OF THE BUILDING ARE REQUIRED TO BE CUT, FIT, ALTERED, OR REMOVED IN THE PROPER EXECUTION OF THIS WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO OTHER PORTIONS OF THE EXISTING BUILDING, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE SHORING, BRACING AND SUPPORT REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE EXISTING BUILDING. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL EMPLOY, AT HIS EXPENSE, A FORMWORK/SHORING ENGINEER REGISTERED IN NORTH CAROLINA TO CONTROL ALL OPERATIONS RELATED TO DESIGN, INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL OF ALL FORWORK, SHORING AND RESHORING. CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT SHOP DRAWINGS FOR FABRICATION, ERECTION, SUPPORT, AND BRACING OF FORMWORK, AND SHORING AND RESHORING PROCEDURES FOR THE ENGINEERS RECORD. UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK, ALL EXISTING MATERIALS, SYSTEMS AND ASSEMBLIES SHALL BE REPLACED, REPAIRED, OR REFIT TO MATCH OR EXCEED THE FIT, FINISH AND PERFORMANCE OF PREVIOUS CONDITIONS WITH APPROVAL OF APPROPRIATE PARTIES. DO NOT PROCEED WITH WORK UNTIL UNSATISFACTORY CONDITIONS WHICH AFFECT SAFETY, STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY, OR WATER TIGHTNESS OF BUILDING ARE CORRECTED.
STORAGE & INSTALLATION ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE STORED AND INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. COORDINATE SITE STORAGE WITH PROPERTY OWNER.
IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT THE CONTRACTOR IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR INITIATING, MAINTAINING, AND SUPERVISING ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND PROGRAMS IN THE PROJECT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS FOR THE SAFETY OF PERSONS AND PROTECT THEM AGAINST INJURY.
PROTECTIONS: PROTECT WITH TEMPORARY BARRICADES, COVERINGS, OR OTHER PROTECTIONS TO PREVENT INJURY OR DAMAGE TO PERSONS OR PROPERTY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY HIS OPERATIONS.
ALL WORK SHALL BE CONDUCTED IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER SO THAT CURRENT BUILDING OPERATIONS ARE NOT INTERRUPTED. ANY REQUIRED SHUT -DOWN OF BUILDING SERVICES SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE OWNER AND/OR THE CITY AND APPROPRIATE UTILITY PROVIDERS AT LEAST 72 HOURS PRIOR TO SUCH OCCURRENCE.
BEFORE EXCAVATION AND/OR DEMOLITION BEGINS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DOCUMENT THE CONDITION OF THE EXISTING BUILDING UNDER CONSIDERATION AND BUILDINGS ADJACENT TO THE PROPOSED REPAIRS. DOCUMENTATION SHALL BE VISUAL VIA VIDEO AND/OR PHOTOS. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING THE BUILDING FACADE AND ADJACENT BUILDINGS FACADES DURING CONSTRUCTION FROM ANY TYPE OF DAMAGE.
CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE SHORING BELOW EXISTING SIDEWALK SLAB AS REQUIRED DURING CONSTRUCTION.

UTILITY NOTES
THE CONTRACTOR IS HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT PRIOR TO COMMENCING CONSTRUCTION, HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTACTING THE UTILITY COMPANIES INVOLVED TO VERIFY THE LOCATION OF UTILITIES AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE WHERE THERE IS A POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH THE IMPROVEMENTS AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A BACKFLOW PERMIT. NO ADDTIONAL PAYMENT WILL BE MADE FOR PERMIT.

STRUCTURAL NOTES AND SPECIFICATIONS

LIVE LOAD PEDESTRIAN LOADING (250 PSF)
CONCRETE AND REINFORCING
REINFORCING BARS SHALL CONFORM TO THE LATEST REVISION OF ASTM-A615 GRADE 60 SPECIFICATIONS AND BE DETAILED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST REVISION TO ACl-318.
CONCRETE AND FLOWABLE FILL MUST BE FREE OF VOIDS AND HONEYCOMBING.
CONTRACTOR TO ENSURE FLOWABLE FILL IS EXCAVATABLE.
HISTORIC BUILDING: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE AWARE
THAT THE BUILDING IS OF HISTORIC NATURE AND CONSTRUCTED
OVER 100 YEARS AGO. TRADITIONAL MEANS OF DEMOLITION
SUCH AS JACK HAMMERING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED DUE TO
EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AND POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO THE STRUCTURE.
OTHER MEANS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR DEMOLITION SUCH AS SLEDGE
HAMMERS, ETC.
