ADORATION ADORACIÓN
Thursday / Jueves 9AM to 6PM
As we gather to celebrate the 7th day of Christmas we are re-minded that the magnitude of the events, on Christmas Day with our Mass of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. We are invited to continue to celebrate the wonder and joy of being invited into the family of God throughout the birth of Je-sus. In addition tomorrow as we begin the New Year, we, as a
Catholic Church, celebrate the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God as a day of continuing hope and grace. This is followed next week with the end of our Christmastime as we give thanks for God’s gifts in the Epiphany of the Lord with our tradition of the Three Kings.
All of these moments and celebrations are important in our faith life, not only as remembrances, but as living symbols of our belief that God is with us and active in our lives. Each year at this time we hear many people be-ginning anew, making promises and resolutions about how they will change habits and lifestyles to be better more healthy people.
If you are making a resolution, I would hope it will make you better, happier and healthier. I try to imagine what resolutions Mary and Joseph were making after the birth of Jesus. (Continued on page 2...)

How they would have looked at the blessing of the new born child and with joy and hope begin to plan and seek ways of being great spouses and parents as a Holy Family. These are resolutions, I would hope that each of us, as part of a family, whether we are parent, spouse, child or in-law, we would make the resolution to be a better and holier family. If we are able to make these resolutions then our ability to see the epiphany of Jesus the Christ as the center of our families will continue to grow and flourish.
On behalf of the St. Lucy Parish and School staff, we wish you all a New Year filled with many bless-ings and joy.
Please remember to pray for our continued work on the “Renewed in the Light” Capital Campaign.
God bless, Fr. Mark

SOLEMNITY OF MARY, THE MOTHER OF GOD / LA SOLEMNIDAD DE LA VIRGEN MARIA, MADRE DE DIOS
On January 1, New Year's Day, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Holy Mother of God. It is the highest title of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Theotokos, Mother of God. This title was given to Mary at the Council of Ephesus in 431 A.D. The council taught that the humanity and divinity of Jesus could not be sepa-rated and that they exist in one person, with the implication that we can rightly give Mary the title of Mother of God.
Prayer for the Feast of Mary, Mother of God
Heavenly Father, You blessed the Virgin Mary with the fullness of grace. She is my model of faith, hope, and love. I give this new year to her intercession and ask for her holy prayers. Place my needs into the protection of her motherly love. With her help, I want my faith to grow. Give me an increase in the virtue of hope when troubles tempt me to despair. Guide me in understanding Your infinite love. And join my heart, dear Lord, to the Holy Mother's Immaculate Heart, so that I may improve in lov-ing everyone unconditionally, in imitation of my Savior, Jesus. Amen.

BEARERS OF THE WORD
The Church has placed a number of notable feast days immediately after Christmas. The feasts of Stephen, John the Evangelist, and the Holy Innocents form a summary of the life lived in Christ, the Word made flesh. What do these have to do with the feast of the Holy Family, which crowns the Octave of Christmas? These feasts remind us that suffering will occur in fulfilling the mission of Christ, and that we are all called to be bear-ers of this Word whose birth we celebrate.
We also see this manifested in the lives of Joseph and Mary, both of whom took social and religious risks in obedience to the will of God, and both of whom were open to the word of God sent to them from on high. In these ways they prefigured the life of Jesus himself.
Most likely, few of us found ourselves at Mass this past Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thurs-day, but the essence of these feasts and the essence of the holiness of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus remain central, a holiness we celebrate today. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
