All Souls Catholic Church May 5, 2019

The Sacrament of Reconciliation: Confessions are heard each week on Saturday at the Church (SR #46) from 3:45pm to 4:45pm. The Sacrament of Baptism: Call the parish office to learn the necessary requirements and make an appointment to have your child baptized. The Sacrament of Marriage: Getting married? Congratulations! The process of being married in the Catholic Church could take between 6 months to a year to complete. Please contact Ann Cammarata at the parish office as soon as possible after your engagement if you would like to be married at All Souls Catholic Church. Anointing of the Sick: Please call the parish office. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. Did you know that the Sacrament may be repeated if the person becomes sick again? A person should be anointed before surgery when a dangerous illness is the reason for the intervention. Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Homebound: If you are unable to attend Mass, please call the parish office so we may assist you in having a visit from one of our ministers or one of our priests. Catholic Funeral and Burial: Please call the parish office or have the funeral home director contact us to arrange the Funeral Mass and for more information about burial at All Souls Catholic Cemetery.

Two Boxes of Life. One box contains our mortal life with all its comfort, freedom, wealth, power, prestige, titles, & securities. This box also contains the Fears, and Resentments of life brought about by sin. The other is what is referred to as the “outside” box, containing the Eternal life of Christ, who suffered, died, rose from the dead, and sits at the right hand of God.

This 3rd Sunday of Easter reveals the truth about the outside box of our comfort zone that offers new life as Christ’'s disciples and believers of the way. God speaks to us about this truth, and we are witnesses to this truth. Cardinal Avery Dulles once said “there was an event in the upper room” that needed to be proclaimed. St Augustine said: “"Man loves the truth, when it enlightens them, hates it when it accuses them.”" We can know truth about God ourselves. We can welcome the Holy Spirit to come into our lives and allow God to transform us. This concrete manifestation of Faith witnessed by the disciples is revealed to us again today. Remember the Lord’s teaching, “for whatever we do to least of our brothers we do unto Him.” Imagine Jesus awaiting us in glory and saying: “"Now it’s my turn to love and comfort you.”" Our prayers, blessings and congratulations are extended to the 69 children who received their First Holy Communion this weekend and to our 53 youth and adults who received the sacrament of Confirmation this past Wednesday with Bishop Noonan. Our Knights and Ladies Auxiliary of St. Peter Claver corporately attended the

11:00 am Mass this past Sunday. T h e K n i g h ts o f P e t e r Claver organization was founded in 1909 in Mobile, Alabama. It is the largest African A m e r i c a n C a t h o l i c l a y organization in the United States. This weekend a large number of children received Jesus in a unique

encounter by celebrating First Holy Communion. Families of those children answered their baptismal call by preparing their children at home and sharing what it means to celebrate Holy Communion. In addition to home preparation, children participated in a Spirit Day Retreat and a Mass rehearsal/practice. Those families should be recognized for the tremendous job that they did in preparing their children to celebrate this sacrament. All of the children truly understand and believe in the true presence and eagerly anticipated celebrating this special occasion. Please keep in your prayers, congratulate, bless and welcome the following children who celebrated First Holy Communion: Jakson Alvarado (April 28th), Leanny Alvarez-Leon, Vianni Ancona, Nicolas Barros Ayala, McKenzie Beatty, Jace Brennan, Luciana Cleveland, Peter Coatam (April 28th), Thomas Cockram, Maria Cordero, Miguel Cordero, Colston Crawford, Miles Crawford, Carina Cruz, Maximiliano DeLaVega, Arena DeBarros, Adriana DeLaRosa, Gian Diaz, Joseph Diglio Faneite, Luis Dugarte Ladrador, Juan Espinoza, Yarelly Espinoza, Sophia Fernandez, Logan Fiorey, Kelsea Fitzpatrick, Carhen Gonzalez (April 20th) Lehandry Gonzalez (April 20th), Anthony Gonzalez, Clara Greenlee, McKenna Harshbarger, Jenna Henderson, Leah Idrogo, Jacob Johnson, Sabrina Landis, Sophia LeFils, Elena Marques, Nathaniel Melendez, Sophia Mitchell, Eden Nunez, Aiden Onyski, Sebastian Padilla Guzman, Jackeline Pantoja, Johan Pantoja, Julissa Pantoja, Joseph Pate, Kristian Perez-German, Kristopher Perez-German, Julianna Polanco, Oscar Pombo-Leon, Gianmarko Quiles (May 12th ), Isabella Ramirez, Sebastian Ramirez, Justin Raygoza, William Raygoza, Christian Rico-Guerra, Ryan Rivera, Sophia Ruggieri, Elijah Samuels, David Sevilla, Gabriela Smith, Sophia Smith, Gianna Ulino, Sofia Urribarri, Jasen Vazquez and Hailey Whitaker. I am struck by how Jesus addresses the disciples in the 21st chapter of John. They have been fishing all night, and when the dawn comes, Jesus asks, "Children, have you caught anything to eat?" They hadn't caught a thing, so he tells them what to do to finally fill their nets. These children thought they knew best, but they couldn't get the job done until they listened to Jesus. Like a child who needs a parent, these early followers of Jesus were learning that real maturity of faith requires trusting in and listening to the Teacher. The stewardship way of life demands of us a certain maturity of discipleship. Just as a child is not yet ready to be a parent, an immature disciple may not yet be ready to sacrifice regardless of the cost or understand the true value of his generosity. So every day, we are challenged and called to respond, sometimes even with little cost to ourselves. But each step, no matter how small, brings with it growth. We are growing not only in maturity, but in the ability to trust in God and how to listen for the call as well. How mature are you in your faith? How much trust do you have in Jesus Christ? How often do you pause to listen to the instructions of your Teacher? The night is now over, and the dawn is upon you. Reflect on the visible fruit of your stewardship of your time, talent and treasure, and

then listen for the words of Jesus. - Tracy Earl Welliver, Master of Theological Studies, for LPi
