The Hebron High School Class of 2014 will be
making their final school day entrance into Heb-
ron High School on Thursday, June 5th. Due to
the abundance of snow days we encountered
this year, commencement is being held the
evening of the last day of school. The seniors
this year are required to go to their last day of
classes in order to get their diplomas. As always,
there were a lot of decisions made by this years
graduating class about the specifics of their
ceremony. The class flower this year is the Dai-
sy. Instead of the traditional red gowns that
Hebron girls have worn for years, the class has
the girls wearing white while the boys wear red.

The guest
speaker at this years’ graduation ceremony will
be English teacher Mr. Jared Grigsby, and the
quote decided on by the class is attributed to
Arthur C. Clarke, who said, “The only way to dis-
cover the limits of the possible, is to go beyond
them into the impossible.”
It will be bittersweet seeing the 2014 class leave.
We wish them the very best, wherever life takes
them after high school.

Hawks Baseball
Girls Softball Recently the Heb-ron Lady Hawks beat South Cen-tral in the first round of the PCC tournament with an amazing score of 21-6. That win leads the Hawks into the champi-onship game against the Boone Grove Wolves. It was a tight game with no score for the first 5 inning, then Boone
managed to score and they took the win and the PCC title with a final score 0-1. May 21, 2014 the Hawks got an amazing win against the KV Kougars. Hebron won 8-4. Next week the Hawks will be playing
Bishop Noel in the first round of sectionals on Wednesday, May 28.
The IHSAA
Baseball Sec-
tional Pairings
were released
and the Hawks
were put up
against the Boone Grove Wolves in the first round
of sectionals on Wednesday, May 29. This is will be
the third time in the 2014 baseball season that
Hebron and Boone Grove will go head to head. We
hope to see all you fans come out and support the
Hawks at Oil City Stadium in Whiting for the sec-
tional games.
Thank you to all the fans that have come out to
support the Hawks baseball team this season. You
have all been a great crowd to have at the games
and the team appreciates your support.
As the weather heats up so do the Hebron Hawks.
The Hawks baseball team has a record of 15-8 so far
in this 2014 season. Hebron was on a four game
winning streak after defeating Tri-Central (22-1),
Oregon-Davis (12-2), Rensselaer (12-3), and South
Central (14-5). The four game winning streak was
snapped Saturday after a loss to Whiting. The Hawks
started another winning streak of two games after
the loss by defeating Hammond Morton and Lowell.
The two game winning run ended due to a Griffith
loss.
The Hawks had their first game of the PCC Tourna-
ment on Wednesday, May 21 in a matchup against
the Boone Grove Wolves. Hebron came up on top
by a score of 5-3. With the win over the Wolves, the
Hawks advance to go up against the Washington

The Hebron Lady Track Team ran their Sectionals on May 20th. The team itself did not
qualify but some of the athletes did qualify. Sophomore Sarah Benjamin qualified for
the 2 mile. Freshman Danielle Roeske and Junior Kelly Steffan qualified for dicus and
shot, respectively. Freshman Carli Sowonik claimed the Sectional Champion title for
pole vault. The 4x4 team of Carli Sowonik, Liz Fox, Sydney Mars, and Katie Clemens
qualified for regionals as well. Regionals will be on Tuesday May 27th at Chesterton
High School. Hope to see you come out and support our girls track!
The Hebron Boys took Round Robin and PCC for the second time in fifteen years. Blake Wallace led
the Hawks to victory as he took first in the 100 meter dash, second in the long jump, third in the 200
meter dash. Mathew Lyons helped with a third place finish in the 110 hurdles and a second in the 300
hurdles. Austin Riese won the pole vault giving the team a boost in points. Brad Blank blew away
competitors in the high jump and 400 meter dash. The freshmen of the team also stepped up with Scott
Crawley winning the 800 and Joe McNeill winning the 2 mile. The boys left the meet as champions
and with motivation for the post season.
But wait, there’s more….

pating in the walk must donate at least $5
which will go toward the scholarship fund.
The Hebron Community Scholarship Fund
presents many various scholarships to Heb-
ron High School Seniors each year. And
what a way to enjoy this nice weather! It’s a
win-win for the Hebron community!
On behalf of all of us here at Hebron High School,
have a delightful, productive and safe summer break.
The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
The National Honor Society held their last meeting of the year on May 6, 2014 and elected their officers for next year . The 2014/15 officers are:
President- Madison Bell
Vice President- Matt Hernandez
Secretary- Morgan Morrow
Treasurer- Joann Keys
The Hebron Chapter also held a party on May 16th to say goodbye to the graduating seniors and show them how much their work was appreciated on behalf of the chap-ter. Also in May, members were busy conducting a food drive where members went out and collected goods for the Hebron Country Pantry.
Looking forward, our Hebron HS NHS is teaming up with the Lowell HS NHS chapter to help with their Cancer Walk on May 31. We collected water to help supply the water stations the day of the walk from the school community. Dona-tions came from students, teachers, the Hebron Chapter of Business Professionals of America, and Chartwells.
National Honor Society Advisor Mrs. Kiner and the members wish you a wonderful, restful summer and look forward to working with you next year on behalf of the Hebron Community.

Our Summer Reading Program will be kicking into gear just as school is ending, and we'd love to get more
teens involved in our program. Our theme this year is Spark A Reaction, and we have some great prizes for
teens who participate in our Online Summer Reading, as well as a number of great events lined up, including: Myth
busters; Robots & Robotics; The Amazing Race: Fandom Worlds Collide; DIY Spa Science; and more. We also have a
need for more teen volunteers for our program, which is an excellent way to get job experience and hours for
NHS. For more information, please see the attached flyer (on the next page of this publication).
We are now in the month of May and that means that the nice, warm weather will be coming back to stay. With the warm weather we all need a refresher about our school dress code. All tops must be covering the shoulders of the student. If the top has shoulder straps, the straps must be three fingers wide. The shorts and skirts of the student must have the appropriate length. The lengths we are looking for in a student’s
bottoms are to the fingertips when your arms are fully extended at your sides. Inappropriate tight-ness of clothing is also not allowed. Anoth-er thing that comes to mind when the weather gets warmer is holes in jeans/shorts. There is to be no tears in legwear above the knees. We hope you keep these rules in mind in the morning before you come to school, so there won’t be a need
to call home for a more appropriate replacement!
Dress Code Reminder
Thank you for helping us in our mission to continue the quality of education here at Hebron Schools. Because the referendum passed, we are now able to: Get back to more manageable class sizes at the elementary,
middle and high school Add back some of the programs that were lost due to funding
cuts at the state level Keep our current staff and replace those that may leave Pay our operating costs that keep going up each year while
funding is going down Please remember to vote for representatives who support education in November!
