Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. – Romans 8:30

Every Friday morning during the school year, volunteers gather in the Fellowship Hall. They are there to provide children in our community with supplemental food items for the weekends through the BackPack Meals Program. Backpacks are delivered to neighborhood elementary schools and then distributed anonymously to those children identified by the Guidance Counselors. This school year a total of 37 children received this aid at Nantucket Elementary, Crofton Woods Elementary, Crofton Elementary and Piney Orchard Elementary schools.

Our program is so very blessed to receive support from the congregation at CUMC through the Missions' Budget funds, individual gifts, and donations of food items from church and community members and also from the students and their families in the Child Development Center. In addition, the effort of the many team members who shop, pack and transport these gifts every week is a witness to the power of our commitment to the children. We cannot reach all children who are hungry but we can support some of the children and to those, we believe our program makes a difference.

In addition, in late June through July we will be sponsoring the second year of our summer program. BackPack Meals will serve 10 children at Nantucket Elementary School. The upper elementary school students in the summer program at our CDC will be packing the bags and our volunteers will be delivering them to the school.

Our ministry began in the fall of 2010 with 3-4 children in one elementary school when a Christian saw a need in our community and responded. We are thankful for her vision and for the response from so many who embraced that vision: we may never know the full impact of our efforts but we have faith that what we are sharing IS making a difference. Please know that YOU HAVE made a difference and please accept our appreciation!

Shoppers Baby

Shower

A big thank you to Steve Lindenberger, the manager of Shoppers in Crofton, for throwing a “baby shower” for our Baby Pantry. At checkout, customers were able to purchase various baby items which were then donated to CUMC! Thank you, also, to the community for supporting us.

Once again, Boy Scout Troop 115 came to the rescue, and helped spruce up CUMC at the Trustees’ Spring Clean-Up Day. Thanks to the approximately 12 Scouts and 5 leaders who showed up for duty!

Margaret Cullings reports that the Lord put together a good, congenial group of women to attend the recent retreat at Greenwood Hills. Rev. Robin Joynes presented a great program about prayer along with a short study of Psalms. Yummy snacks, excellent fellowship, and learning more about the way God works in our lives have left the ladies eager for next year’s retreat scheduled again at

Greenwood Hills for May 13-15, 2016!
