Reading Language Arts Remote Lesson Plans March 23-27, 2020 TEKS: LA.2.C, LA.3.D, LA.6.A, LA.18.A, LA.2.G, LA.17.A, LA.1.C

Materials Needed: iPad or laptop for videos, Journal (composition book), plain paper, doodle pad paper, magazine pictures, scissors, and glue stick. Weekly Objectives: respond to literature, show comprehension of story through illustration and writing, identify short /u/ and /e/ word families, rhyming words, read and write sight words: “she,” “good,” “are”, “they”.

Monday: 1. Watch: Bravo, Maurice on Epic!

a. Laptop users: getepic.com/student b. App users: go to your app

2. Think about the story and discuss what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. Retell the story.

3. Using your black and white “journal” (composition book), draw a picture of your favorite part of the story in the empty box.

4. Then, on the handwriting lines, write the title Bravo, Maurice on the top line and write a sentence about your favorite part

a. Example: My favorite part was when ___________. (he was singing in the tub).

5. Review short /u/ vowel, identify short /u/ word families

6. Sight Word- practice reading the word “she/She”- watch you tube video. https://safeYouTube.net/w/NfI2

7. Using ½ sheet of paper, write the word “she” on the front and “She” on the

back of a piece of paper. Try to use the word “she” throughout the day. “She is playing with my toys. I like when she shares with me.” Remember, if the word “She” is used at the beginning of your sentence, an upper case “S” is needed. Keep this sight word in a special folder for practice.

8. On a piece of doodle pad paper, draw a picture and write a sentence using the sight word “she”.

a. Example: draw a picture of mommy or grandma with sentence “She is my mom.” Or “She is my grnma” (allow children to use inventive spelling). Keep this activity in a special folder for the future.

9. Keep your sight word paper and your doodle pad picture with sentence in a

special folder for the future.

Tuesday: 1. Read Bravo Maurice on Epic! again then answer these questions

a. Q: Why is the family proud of Maurice? (He has a wonderful singing voice)

b. Q: How is Maurice different from the rest of the family? (He is the first singer in the family)

c. Q: What are the jobs Maurice’s family members do? (taxi driver, baker, writer, gardener)

d. Q: What jobs do your family members have? Mom? Dad? Grandma? Grandpa?

e. Using your black and white “journal” (composition book), draw what you want to be when you grow up. Write “I am good at ____. I want to be a ___ when I grow up.” Share with your family.

2. Practice sight word “good” by watching https://youtu.be/c658vC-EoLE. Then, using ½ sheet of paper, write “good” on the front and “Good” on the back. Try to use the word “good” throughout the day. “I am good at soccer. My dad is a good cook.” Remember, if the word “Good” is used at the beginning of your sentence, an upper case “G” is needed. Keep this sight word in a special folder for practice.

3. On a piece of doodle pad paper draw and write about the sight word “good.” a. Example: My dad is good at running. My mom is good at ____. Good

job mom. b. Keep this activity in a special folder for the future.

1. Then, answer the following questions.

a. Q: What kind of store did Zara’s family own? (A hat store) b. Q: What happened to the feathers? (The store ran out) c. Q: What did Zara do to help? (Made decorations with fabric, ribbons,

and papier maché to put on her dad’s hats) 2. Find your favorite hat at home. Use your journal to draw a picture of your

a. Using a piece of doodle pad paper draw a picture of your favorite thing to do at school and write a sentence.

i. Ex: I like to ______ at school.

2. Review the letter Yy with this video https://youtu.be/bZC3a6GnwTo. a. Then, create a yellow collage using magazine pictures (you can also

find upper and lower case “Y”). Find pictures of yellow things. b. Keep this project for your special folder.

Friday: 1. Review letter Zz- zebra, zipper, zoo. Watch this video

pictures of what you want to have in your zoo. b. Ex: animals, food, people

2. Review sight words “are,” “they,” “she,” and “good.” a. Watch this video https://youtu.be/1sNPUmZQels. b. Then, a piece of doodle pad paper, fold the paper into four boxes then

write each word in a box and make up a sentence to go with each word.

c. Practice reading these four words and use them in sentences. i. Ex: “are” - You are special.

ii. “They” - They are funny. iii. “She” - She is my friend. iv. “Good” - I am a good girl/boy. v. Practice these words every day.

d. Keep this project for your special folder.
