3.What!Afterdeathandturningtodust(toberevived)!Thisversionisfarfrombeingtrue.

4.VerilydidWeknowwhatisbeingreducedfromthem(afterdeath)andhaveWewithUsabookpreservingtheiracts.

5.Rather,theyfalsifiedTruthwhenitcametothemandaboutwhich(DayofReckoning)theyhavebeenindoubt.

6.Havetheynotseenthevastheavensabovethem,howWecreatedthemand

adornedthemhavingnoholestherein.

7.AndsimilarlytheearthhowWespreaditandfixedthereinhillsandgrewvegetationofpleasingvariety.

8.Asourceofcontemplationandadviceforeverycontemplatingmind(onDivineWisdom).

9.Wesentblessedrainfromtheclouds,wherewithgrewfruitgardensandcornsforcutting.

10.Anddatetreeshavingbunchoffruits.

11.FoodforOurcreaturesbythusenliveningthedeadland,andsimilarlyshallbetheraisingofthedeadfromthegrave.

12.Beforethem(Quraishinfidels)pagantribeofNoahfalsifieditsProphet.AlsosectofRas(whothrewtheirProphetintothewell)andasectofThamood.

13.Andthesectof‘AdandPharaohandthesectoftheirbrotherLot.

14.AndmenofthedesertandthesectofTuba,allfalsifiedtheirprophetsandbecameentitledtopunishment.

15.AreWetiredofcreation(inwhichWemaynotreviveyouagain)?Rather,theyareindoubtofbeingre-enlivened.

Moral

Self-sufficient.

Verses16–29

16.VerilydidWecreatemanandknowwhatismisgivinginhismind,asWearenearerthanthecarotidartery.2

17.Recallwhenthetwoseatedangelsontherightandleftofthefrontteethrecordeverywordheutters.

18.Notaworddoesheutterbutaretheytherepresenttorecordimmediately(hisstatements).

19.Andwhentheindispensableswoonaccompanyingdeathapproaches,itisthenhiseyesightissharpenedtoviewfutureeventswhichduetohisnegligencehewasevading.

20.Andwhenthesecondsirenwillsound,thisistheDayofJudgment.

21.Andshallcomeeverysoulwithwhomshallbeonedrivinghimtoplainofassembly,andtheothertowitnesshisdeeds.

22.Verilywereyounegligent(duetoworldlyavocations)fromthis,soWeraisedfromyouyourcurtain,nowyoureyesightiskeener.

23.Andshallsaytohisaccompanyingdevil,hereistheresultofyourdeeds.

24.Ohyou(MohammadandAli)hurlintohelleveryfalsifyingenemy

25.whowithheldduesandpreventedmen3,transgressing,anddoubting4.

26.HewhoassociatesselfwithGod,underself-opinion,sobetterhebesteepedintointensepunishment.

27.Whenhiscompanionwillsay,“OhmyProvidence,Ididnotturnhimhaughty,buthewasinabsolutemisguidance.”

28.Godshallsay,“DonotlitigateinMypresencenow,andverilytoyouhavereachedmywarningsofpunishment.

29.“MyworddoesnotchangeandIamnottyrannicaltoMycreatures.”

Moral

1.God’sbeingnearertomanthanhiscarotidarterymeansfromthepointofviewofknowledge,notphysicallyasHeisintangible.Similarly,theProphetsaidhewhosawmesawGod.thismeanshisbeingaDivineLight,manifestedDivineactionsandDivinewillwithDivineattributesbeingtransferredtohim.

ExactlywhatJesussaysinSt.John12:45–46–“HethatseethmeseethHim.”“IamcomeaLightintotheworld.”WhentransferredattributestoDivineLights,Godadoptstransferredepithetsoftheirphysicalorganstoself.

2.Theworldlyavocationsareagreatbarriertorealizedistantfuture,partofwhichisvisibleatdeathbed.Thisisaproofwhatwecannotsee,cannotbedenied.Thefurtherweareawayfromtheworldlyengagements,neararewetoHim.Itisdeathandpurgatorythereafter,whichcleansessinofthesinfulfaithful,whoarethenabletoappreciaterealityandrenderedcapabletoadmissionofparadiseandsomenotuntilhavingpassedsometimeinhell.

3.Self-opinionisurgingtodeviatefromreligiouscodeandresultsinself-destruction.BarringhisownsinwiththosewhomheinfluencesoverhisheadasaringleaderandshallonReckoningDay,beacauseofbeingdrivenawayfromDivineMercy,onthegroundofhishavingforsakenauthenticguidesi.e.theDivineLights.

Verses30–45

30.Onthedayhellwillbeaddressed,“areyoufull?”Itwillsay,“Isthereanymoretocome?”

31.Andparadisewillbebroughtveryneartherighteous.

32.AndtheywillbeinformedthishasbeenpromisedforeverycautiousanddirectingtoGod.

33.HewhofearsGodunseenanddirectsselfwithsupplicatingheart

38.VerilydidWecreatetheheavensandtheearthandinbetweeninsixdays,andWedidnotfeelpaintherein.

39.SowaitonwhattheysayandglorifyyourProvidencebeforesunriseandsunset.5

40.Andduringthenightglorifyandprostate.

41.Payheedwhenthecrierwillshoutfromnearontheday.

42.Thetrumpetwillblowandthisisthedaytocomeoutofthegraves.

43.VerilydoWeenlivenanddoWegivedeathandtoUsisthereversion.

44.thedaytheearthwillburstduetotheemergenceofthedead,whentheywillrunandthisiscongregatingday,whichiseasyforUs.

45.Weknowwhattheysay,andyouarenotgoingtoforce(guidance)onthem.SimplyadvisethembytheTextandthosewhoareafraidofcertaintyandintensityofpunishmentoftheday.

23.BytheProvidenceoftheheavensandtheearthitshallcomeascertainlyasyouarereadingtheText.

Moral

JustasGod,inspiteofbeingSelf-sufficientandIndispensabletoHiscreation,byvirtueofHisbeingunlikecreation,hasrecoursetophysicalandspiritualagents’viz.clouds,rain,soil,andangelsforprovisionofHiscreatures,hascreatedDivineLights,havingguidedthemtoHisway,qualifyingthemwithHisattributestoguideHiscreationonearthwithoutwhichmancannotattainDivineproximity.

HewhothereforedeniesancillaryleadershipofDivineLights,throughwhosemediumalone,Divineproximityisattainable,isnotonlyungrateful,likechildren,disobeyingtheirparentsandincurringmajorsinswhichrendersthem

unforgivableforwastingtheirvirtues.TheirinfidelitytoGodisfirstfollowedbytheirinfidelitytoDivineLights.Disobediencetoparentisallowable,whereDivineCommandsarebeingcontravened,butundernocircumstancesdisobediencetoDivineLightsispermissible,astheyareinfallible.

Hence,disregardtothemmustendinperpetualcondemnationtohellwithoutanyquestionofintercession.TheonlydifferenceinDivineCommandsandthoseofthemisformeremanateforHimandthelatteraretransferredthroughtheiragencies,andforthisreasonprostrationtoGodisonlypermissible.TheseDivineLightsarealive,whetherpresentonEarthorotherwiseandseekingtheirhelpisbutfair,asinthecaseofthelivingbeings.Tojudgethemotherwiseismereignoranceoftheirrealobjectofcreation.TheiractionsareasperDivinewill.ComparethewordofJesusinSt.John8:28–29andthatIdonothingformyselfbutasmyFathertaughtme.Ispeakthesethingsandthathesentmeiswithme.Thefatherhasnotleftalone,forIdoalwaysthingswhichpleasehim.ThisisexactlywhattheProphetsaid,“AliiswithGodandGodiswithAli.

Verses24–46

24.HashistoryofAbraham’srespectedguestscometoyou?

25.Whenaftertheywishinghimenteredhishouse,whenherepliedinthesametermandremarked,“Iseeyouarestrangers.”

26.Hewentquicklytohiswifeandreturnedwithinashorttimewithafriedgoat.

27.Drawingitneartothem,askingthemwhytheydidnotdojusticetoit.

28.Thenhegotnervous,4whentheysaid,“Benotnervous(wehavenotcometopainyou).Ratherwehavecometogivetidingsofalearnedchild.”

29.Hiswifejoinedthegroupandsmitinghercheek,remarkedhowsheanoldwomaninmenopause,bearachild.

30.Theangelsaid,“SuchisaDivineCommandofherProvidence.”VerilyHeiswiseandOmniscient.

31.Abrahamsaid,“Ohyumessengers,whathasbeenthecauseofyourbeinghere?”

32.Theysaid,“Wehavesenttotheguiltysect(ofLot).

33.“Sowemaypeltearthengavelsonthem.

34.“DulymarkedbyyourProvidenceontheguilty

35.“andweshallremovethemfromthetown(thefaithful).”

36.WedidnotfindmorethanasinglehouseofMuslims.

37.Wehaveleftthereinasignforthosewhoareafraidofintensepunishment.

38.Andsimilarly,thereisasigninthecaseofMoseswhensenthimtoPharaohwithclearoverpoweringmiracles.

39.Heturnedhisbackfromthem,replyingonhisstrength,callinghimamagicianoramadfellow.

40.Wearrestedhimandhisarmy,throwingthemintothesea,whentheybegantorepent.

41.Andinthecaseofthecaseof‘AdthereisasignwhenWesenttothemsingularwinds.

42.Whichwouldnotleaveanybodytheystruckagainst,exceptturningitintopowder.

43.AndinthecaseofThamood,thereisasign,whentheywereinformedtoenjoywithinastipulatedperiod.

44.TheydisobeyedthecommandsoftheirProvidencewhentheshriekofGabrielseizedthem,whentheywerelookingatitintheday.

45.Theyhadneitherpowertofacenoranymeanstodivertthedisaster.

46.AndthetribeofNoah,beforethis,theywereadisobedienttribe.

22.Weshallhelpthemwithfruitsandfleshoftheirchoice.

23.Whereintheywillbefreetoexchangeamongthemselves,cupsofdrinks,withoutanyquarrelorsin.

24.Whileshallcircleroundthem,childrenalikehiddenpearls.

25.Andfacingeachothershalltheybequestioningamongthemselves.

26.Saying,“Verilyerethis(whileintheworld)wedreadedDivine

punishment.

27.GodhasbeengracioustousandhassavedusfromthetormentofHell’sintenseheat.

28.Verily,beforethisweprayeduntoHiminthenightandverilyHeisAll-endowingandMerciful.

Moral

1.Fatofthosewhoplayawayinthisworldisdescribedintheaboveparagraph.TheygoonfalsifyingEternityandmakenopreparationforDoomsDay.

2.Manisknownbythecompanyhekeeps.Itwillmouldandfashionhischaracterintoconformitywithitsown.Thedepravedderivegreatsatisfactioninruiningothersasthemselves.Bytheirsubtleinfluence,theymoveyou,tosetyourfaithinthewrongdirection,wherebyyoudislikepurityandquietathome,andtakealikingtodissipationandvice.

3.Avoidthosewhosecompanionshipsilencestheadmonitionofconscience,yourreverenceforDivineText(seeAppendixB)andfaithinGodandyourdreadofDoomsDay,degradingyourcharacter,wastingyoursubstance,underminingyourhealth,defeatingthegreatpurposeoflife,takingawayfromyouallhopeofeternalsalvation.Avoidtheprofanemansocialdrinker,smoker,cardplayerandcinemaandmusicalradioseeker,shunthelibertine,andturnadeafeartothecynicandtheunbeliever.

Forsakethefoolish,andliveandgointhewayofunderstanding.RememberthefriendshipoftheworldisjustasmuchenmitywithGodtodayandalsoofyourneighbourplungedinpleasure,asitwasinthebeginningoftheworld.

Tidingsareforthepiousandpiouschildrenthoughweakenedbynatureinattaininghighgradesoftheirparents.

4.AlishallconductthemarriageceremonywithnymphsofresidentsofparadiseasaresultoftheirpietyandnightprayerwithDivineaweforthedreadfulday,when,toaccountshalltheyrisefromclay.

Verses29–49

29.Goonadvising,youarenotduetoyourProvidence’sgift,soothsayerormad.

30.Dotheysayyouareapoet?Waituntildeathovertakesthem.

31.Say,“WaitandIamwaitingwithyou.

32.Doestheirintelligenceorderthemthis,orrathertheyaretransgressors?

32.Thosearewhogiveupmajorsinsandpunishableactssuchasfornicationandtheftetc.exceptthosementallycommittedandpardonedunderpenance,withoutoperation.VerilyyourProvidenceismightyatforgiveness.Heknowsofwhatyouarecreatedandwhenyouwereinyourmother’swomb.Sodonotboastonyourpiety,Heknowsbetterastowhoisvirtuous.

Thesecanbecompensatedbytrainingchildrenonreligiousgrounds,studyofscientificsubjectstokeepthemindhealthy,bypilgrimageandstudyofreligiousjurisprudence,andcreationoftrust(anyexcessofwealth)insteadofleavingitinthehandsofthoseaboutwhosespending,asperDivineCommands,youarenotconfident.

Theworldisadreamwithinadream,andaswegrowolder,eachstateisanawakening,theyouthawakesastheythinkfromchildhood,thenfullgrowndespisesthepursuitsofyouthasvisionary,andtheoldlooksdownuponhumanityasfeverishdreams.Deaththelastsleep!No,itisthelastandfinalawakening(sofarasdeedsareconcerned).

Pleasureandpainmaybephysical,mental,andspiritualmaybetrueorfalsehavingrespectiveeffectaccordingtothepurposeforwhichtheyarecourted.

2.Thosewhorepudiatetheirwivesbyinjuriousassimilationof“Dhihar,”althoughtheycannotbetheirmother,exceptwhohavebornethem,andverilytheyareusingassimilatoryterms,whicharefalseandGodisPardoningandForgiving.1

3.Thosewhoamongyourepudiatetheirwives,andthenwanttoestablishinter-coursewiththem,theyhave,inexpiation,toliberateaslavebeforeinter-course.ThisisthewaytheyarebeingadvisedandGodknowsyou(undue)acts.

4.Hewhocannotaffordtodososhallconsecutivelyobservefastsfortwomonthsbeforeintercourse,andifhecannotaffordtodoso,heshouldfeed60poor.ThisexpiationisforthosewhobelieveinGodandHisprophet.Thesearetherestrictionsandforinfidels,isintensepunishment.

5ThosewhotransgressDivinelimitsandthoseofHisProphetssallbesodisgracedastheirpredecessorsandverilyhaveWesentclearinstructionsanffortheinfidelsisdisgracefulpunishment.

6.ThedaywhenGodshallraisealiveall,Heshallacquaintyouwithyouractions,andGodhasrecordedthem,thoughtheyhaveforgottenthemandGodiswitnesstoallevents.

7.Doyounotsee,GodknowswhatisinHeavenandEarth.ThereisnotapartyofthreeofwhomGodisthefourth,notoffiveofwhomHeisthesixth,norlessthanthatnormore,whenHeisthere,whereveryoube,whenHewillinformyou,ontheDayofJudgment,whatyouhadbeendoing.VerilyGodisOmniscient.

17.NeithertheirpropertynortheirchildrenwillsavethemfromDivinepunishment.Theyareinmatesofhell,whereintheyshallabide.

10.ThosewhosucceededthemhavebeenprayingtoGodtoforgivetheirsinsandthoseoftheirbrethrenwhoprecededtheminfaith,withoutleavinganygrudgeintheirheartsforthefaithful.VerilyYouareForgivingandMerciful.

BaniAmirandBaniNazir,twoJewishclanslivedundertheProphet’sprotectioninthedistrictofMedina.InordertoavengeOmaribnZamiri,whohadkilledtwomembersofBaniAmir’sclans,precededtheProphet,withhisselectedcompanions,demandinghelpfromBaniNazir.Instead,theyplottedtokilltheprophet,whowasadvisedthroughGabrielbyGodtheAlmighty.TheProphetdeputedMohammadMuslimatokillKabibnAshraf,therebelchiefofBaniNazir.

Thisbeingdone,hedemandedtheirevacuationfromMedina,indefaultofwhichtofacethebattle,owingtotheirintriguetokilltheProphet.Theylefttheirhomesleavingtheirproperty,ascrownlandstotheprophets,whodistributeditamongsthisdeservingrelativesandtowhichtherichrefugeesandAnsarswerenotentitle.(Today,notasingleJewseemssettledinArabia).

ReligiousMoral

Self-denialisavirtuecharacteristicoftheAhlal-Bait,whousedtogetdirectprovisionfromDivinityasabove.Invain,dotheytalkofhappiness,when,neverdidtheysubdueanimpulse,inobediencetoaprinciple.Thesecretofsuccessistoknowhowtodenyyourself,whichisanexcellentguardtovirtue,foritissaferandwisertoabatesomeofourlawfulenjoyment,thantogratifyourpermissibledesirestotheutmost.Itisnotonlyacharacteristicofreligion,buttohumanlife.Thelowest(physicalpleasures)mustalwaysbedeniedwhenyouhaverisentoahigherspiritualsphere.Religiously,itisaholyunionwithGod,Whoseself-sufficiencyandproximityshouldmakeyougodly.

Verses11–17

11.Haveyounotseenthosehypocrites3tellingtheirbrethreninfidels,“Ifyoucomeout4weshallalsocomeouttoyourassistanceandshallnotobeyanyagainstyouandifyoufightcertainlyshallweassistyou.”Godatteststheyareliars.

12.Iftheycomeouttheywillnotassistthem.Iftheydid,theywouldturnbackandrunawayandwillnotbehelpedanylonger.

13.VerilyyouhavebeenamightiersourceofthreatintotheheartsofthesehypocritesthanGod.Thisisbecausetheydonotunderstand.

14.Theywillnotfightwithyoualtogether,exceptwhentheyarestronglyfortifiedinafortorfrombehindthewalls.Theyhavesevereinternalstrife(amongthemselves).Youthinktheyareunitedbuttheirheartsarecleftapart.Thisisbecausethesecthasnosense.

15.Likeaprecedingpeople,theytastedtheresultsoftheirinfidelityandforthemthereisintensepunishment.

16.Likeadevilwhenhebeguiledmantodisbelief,andwhenhedidso,hesaid,“Iamawayfromyouract.IamafraidofGod,theCreatoroftheworlds.”

17.Witharesult,theirfateshallbehell,ineternity,whereinshalltheyeverremain.Thisistherewardofinfidelity.

Moral

Infidelityistherootofallsins,fordidmanheartilybelievethepromisestoobedience(i.e.paradise)andthreatsotherwise(i.e.hell),theycouldhardlyhavebeensounreasonableastoforfeittheoneandincurtheother.FaithinGod

11.Ifanyofyourwivesrevertstoaninfidel,you(Prophet)havetopaythedoweramountspentbyherhusband(outofthebootywhichfallstoyourhands).PaythoseMuslimhusbandswhosewiveshavedesertedthemtotheextenttheyhavepaidandfearGodinwhomyouhavefaith.2

6.Itisallthesamewhetheryouseekpardonforthemornot,Godshallneverpardonthem.VerilyGoddoesnotguideadisobedientsect.

7.Theyarethepeoplewhosaid,“DonotspendanythingonbehalfoftheProphetuntilheisdestroyed.”GodisthetreasureofHeavenandEarth,butthehypocritesdonotunderstandsomuch.

8.TheysayiftheywillreturntoMedinatherespectedthereof(hypocritesbeingrichdeemthemselvesrespected)shalldirveoutthemeanest.Rather,itishonourforGodandhisProphetandthefaithful,butthehypocritesdonotunderstand.

10.Andthosewhomaintainedinfidelity,falsifyingOurcommands(byvirtueofpowerandpelf)aremembersofHellwhereinshalltheyeverabideandawfulisthatresidence.

MoralandReligiousPhilosophy

1.Worldhasofferedtwodifferentaspects,renderingmanfaithful,infidel,leadslliifeintheworld,withpolitenessandhardwork,devotesentireenergytocollecttowardswelfareofselfandchildren,withouthavinganyregardtotheCreatorandHisobligationsushcaonedestroysselfandafterdeath,whetherindividuallyornationally,asaPrimeMinisterofaWelfareState.

2.Realizingobjectofcreation,worksforEternity,whathegetsbydintofhardworkandadherencetotruth,iscontentwithhislotinthisworldwithoutbeinganxiousaboutfurureprovisionofhischildren,relyingonGod’scommandments,inthisrespect,leftthisworldtomeetHim,asperHiswill,WhowillfulfilwhatHehaspromisedhimthroughHisProphet.

menopause,andforthosewhocarrytheirprobationaryperiodistheirdelivery.ForhimwhoshallfearGod,shallGodfacilitatehisaffairs.

5.ThisisaDivineCommand,revealeduntoyou.HimwhoshallfearGod,shallGodforgiveofhissinsandgranthighrewards.

6.Givethemsimilarplaceofresidence,wheretheyusedtoreside,anddonotteasethembynarrowingdowntheirprovisionsandiftheycarry,providethemwithclothingandfooduntiltheirsafedeliveryaidiftheyagreetonursethechild,onyourbehalf,paythemtheirwages.Effectajustreconciliationbetween,andiftheyfindyouharduponself,engageanoutsidertonurseit.

7.Everyoneshouldspendtothedegreeofhismeans,andhewhohasanarrowmeansshouldspendoutofwhatGodhasendowedonhimandGoddoesnotdemandforanyonemorethanwhathehasgrantedhim.Shortly,withpinsshallHemakeasmoothoutlet.

Moral

1.Theinstitutionofmarriagekeepsmoralworldinbeing.Withoutitnaturalaffectionandamiablenesswouldnotexist.Domesticeducationwouldbecomeextinct,industryandeconomywouldbeunknown,andmanwouldbelefttotheprecariousexistenceofthesavage.Butforthisinstitution,learningandrefinementwouldexpire,governmentswouldstinkintotheguildofanarchyandreligionrootedfromearthwouldhastenbacktohernaturalheavens.

2.Marriageisinessenceanactofchastity,establishedbylaw,notadmittingdissolution.Betteradherestrictlytoformulateprescribed.

3.Tovalidaterepudiation,thehusbandhouldhaveattainedmajority,shouldbesane,andofsoundunderstanding,soulbeofhisownwillandhaveadestinedintentiononhisparttodissolvethemarriagetie.

8.HowmanyvillagestransgressedcommandsoftheirProvidenceandhisProphets,whenWesurelyshalldealwiththem,afterhavingintenselypunishedthemintheworld.

9.Theytastedpunishmentoftheirsins,andtheirfinaldestinyisruinoustotheircause.

10.Godhaskeptintensepunishmentinshareofthem(inFutureState).FearGod,yousensible,people,whohaveembracedfaith.VerilyhasGodsentyouanadvice.

11.TheProphetwhoreadsouttoyouHisclearcoupletstoextricatethefaithful,whoactvirtuously,fromdarkness(ofmisguidance)tolight(ofguidance),hewhoshallbelieveinGodandactrighteouslyshallbeadmittedinparadise,belowwhichflowstreams,whereinshalltheeverabide.VerilyhasGodprovidedthemwiththebestofprovisions.

12.GodisHeWhocreatedthesevenheavensandearthalikeandtransmitsthroughthemcommandsforyoutorealize.HeOmnipotentandverilyGodhasgainedaroundeverything,withHisknowledge.

8.Ohyoufaithful,dosincerepenancetoGod.5Shortly,yourProvidenceshallhideyoursinsandadmityouinparadisebeneathwhichflowstreams,onthedaywhenGodshallnotdisappointtheProphetandthefaithfulwithhim(byrejectingtheirintercession).Theirleaders(DivineLights)shallbehasteningaheadofthem,alongtheBridge(overhell)totakethemtoparadise,whilethefaithfulshallbeprahyingtotheirProvidence,tobefitthemtotakefulladvantageoftheirleadersandforgivethemasHeiscertainlyOmnipotent.

Sinsareatwarwithreasonandconscience.Wearehungry,theyofferusbreadbutitispoisoned,wearethirstyandtheyofferusdrink,butisfromadeadlyfountain.Theymayoftensatisfyusforthemomentbutitisdeathintheend.ItisonlythebreadofHeavenandwateroflifewhichcansosatisfy,whichweshallhungernomoreandthirstnomore,i.e.DivineprovisionthroughDivineLights.

Sinsreduceprovisionbycatastrophe.Theprivateandpersonalblessingsweenjoyofimmunity,safeguard,liberty,integritydeservethethanksgivingofawholelife.

2.Seeknotproudwealthbutsuchasyoumaygetjustly,usesoberly,distributecheerfullyandlivecontendtedly.Itcanonlybeablessing,beingtosustainandextendknowledge,virtueandreligionknowtheiruse.Thosewholosethembyaccidentorfraudknowtheirvanity,andthosewhoexperiencedifficultiesanddangersofpreservingthemknowtheirperplexities.Hewhowillnotpermithiswealthtodosoanygoodtootherswhileheisliving,preventsitfromdoinggoodtootherswhileheisliving,preventsitfromdoinganygoodtohimselfwhenheisdead,andbyanegotismwhichissuicidalandhasadoubleedge,cutshimselfofffromthetruestpleasureandthehighesthappinesshereafter.

OnConequestofMecca:Causes:DuringpeaceofHadebiya,oneofitstermswassafeguardingthelifeoftheconflictingpartiesresidinginMeccaorMedina,thebaniKhazaya,thefathfulwerehostiletoBaniBakr,theinfidelsatMecca.ThelatterslanderedtheProphetbeforetheformerwhichresultedinanaltercation,leadingtolossoflifeoftheformer.NewsreachedtheProphetatMedinaandAbuSufyanfailedtoeffectafreshtreatwiththeProphet,whomarchedagainstMecca,andSufyanembracedfaith,underintercessionofAbbas,theProphet’suncleandsecuredsecurityoflifeforselfandthoseunderhisroofswavetwosongstresses,oneofwhomwasslainandtheotherescaped.Later,theProphet,withthehalpofAli,destroyedtheidolsatKa‘ba,saidprayersandhandedkeeysthereofTalha,originalholder.HeacceptedfealtytoIslamatMountSafa,withmeninhandsandladiesinacupofwater,onconditionoftheirnotassociating,fornicating,stealing,andabidingbyvirtuousordinancesofIslam.Ali,risingontheProphet’sshoulders,destroyedthefinalidol.

4.OhmyLord,Yourgenerosityismygreattrusttofallbackon,whereasYourpardonissuperiortomyacts.OhmyLord,cheermewhenIstandbeforeYouduringdispensationofjusticetoYourcreaturesonJudgmentDay.OhmyLord,IpleadbeforeYouasonewhocannotaffordtobeindependentthereof,socondonemyfailingsandabsolvemetherefrom.Ohmostgenerousofthegenerous,beforewhombeseechthesinners.Rejectnotmywantsanddisappointmenotinmyhopesandcutnotthemoff,voidingmytrustinYou.OhmyLord,ifeverdoYoudesiremydestruction,verilywouldYounothaveguidedmeandifeveryoudiddesiremydisgrace,verilywouldYounothavegivenmeashelter.OhmyLord,IdonotexpectbeingturnedoutwithoutgrantingofmywantsfromYou,sinceIhaveconsumedmylifeintheirentreatuntoYou.

5.OhmyLord,eternalhasbeenYourgloryonincreaseindegreewithoutmitigationasdoYoudesireandwill.OhmyLord,ifYoudidholdmeupinmycrimes,dosowithYourpardon,andifYoudoflingmeintoHellcertainlyshallIdeclaretoresidentsthereofYourloveIcherishinmyheart.OhmyLord,onthesideofobedienceuntoyouisaninsignificantshareofmydeeds.VerilyismyhopeonthesideofmytrustuntoYou,significant.OhmyLord,howcanIbeexpelleddisgracedindisappointmentfromYourGate,whencertainlyhaveIcherishedhopesofYourgenerositywhichYoushallnotsendmebackwithoutbeingforgivenwithsalvationtoboot.

6.OmmyLord,verilyhaveIwastedmylifeinutterignoranceofYouandyouthinswoon,beingdistantfromYou.OhmyLord,neitherdidIawakenordidIdeviatefromthepathofYourwrath.OhmyLord,IamaslaveofYourslave,standingbeforeYou,beseechingYourgenerosity.OhmyLord,Iamacreature,supplicatingforwhatIhadbeeninthepasttobecondonedandnowIamreadytobedirectedtoYourselfforYourfavour,duetolackofshame,andIbeseechYouforforgivingme,sincethelatterisanadmirableattributeofYourgenerosity.

7.OhmyLord,Ihavenostrengthtosavemyself,sodoYouswervemefromsins,exceptwhenIamawakeinYouraffection.JustasYoudodesireIshouldbegratefultoYouforbeingadmittedwithinYourgraceafterbeingpurifiedfrom

thefilthofnegligenceuntoYou.OhmyLord,beholdmewithaneye,atonewhobeseechesYouandYoudoreplyuntohimanddiverthimintoYourassistance,forverilyobedienceuntoYou,ohYousonear,whodoesnotgetfarawayfromonelostinself-deception,andohYougenerous,whodoesnotreserveselffromone,trustinguntoYouforrequital.

8.OhmyLord,grantmyfrightenedheart,drawingneartoYourtruthfultongueraisingmetoYouandactivesightapproximatingYou.OhmyLord,hewhorecognizesYouisnotignorantandhewhosoughtYourshelterisnotdisgraced,andhewhoapproachedYouisnotaslave.OhmyLord,whoisdelightedinYou,isenlightenedandhewhosoughtYoursheltersecuredhimself,andverilyheisdelightedinYou.OhmyLord,donotdisappointmeinmyhopesfromYourmercyandveilmenotfromYourcompassion.

9.OhmyLord,enrolmeinthelistofYourlovers,givingmeroomreservedfortheincreaseofYourlove.OhmyLord,inspireinmepassionforYourremembranceandcourage,seekingrestandsuccessinYournames,andplaceofYoursanctity.OhmyLord,itisforYoutotakemetotheresidenceofthegroup,supplicatingYouandhomeofthepiousofYourchoice,forverilydoIownnostrengthofmyowntoavoidneitherevilnorenergytoearnvirtue.

10.OhmyLord,Iamaweakcreature,asinnerandadefectiveslave,sodonotcountmeamongthoseturnedoutofYourpresenceandwhosenegligencehaspreventedthemfromYourcondemnation.OhmyLord,myentiredevotionistoYou,doYougrantmeenlighteningeyesofmyhearttoviewatYourgraceuntilitpiercesbyburningveilsofmyhearttoattainmineoftheGlory,keepingmysoulundersuspensionunderYourgrace.OhmyLord,includemeamongthosewhomYoudidinviteandwhorespondedtoYourcallandwhomdoYoubeholdandwhofallinswooninaweofYourgloryandwhomdoYourevealwhattheydischargeopenly.OhmyLord,letnotdespairgainonmyprettyhopesinYouandcutthemnotunderYourhandsomegenerosity.
