HIDAYATUL QUR’AN (Tafsir of al-Qur’an, Vol. II)

Hidayatul Qur’an, vol. II, is a Tafsir of Sura Alu Imran and Surah Nisa of

the holy Qur’an in a new approach. The Qur’an presents the comprehensive

divine code of life in every aspect of human life. Thus every verse of the

Qur’an has lesson(s) for mankind. This Tafsir presents such lessons of each

verse or groups of verses one by one under separate headings. This is the

unique feature and approach of this Tafsir. Other Tafsir books are valuable

which provide explanations, interpretations and commantaries of the

Qur’anic verses, but do rarely present the lessons in such a manner. This

Tafsir is being published by Islamic Foundation Bangladesh. The language

of the Tafsir is Bengali, but there is a plan to translate it into English. Two

volumes have been published so far. Other volumes are in progress.

First, some comments on this Tafsir from two great Islamic scholars and

mufassir are given below in their own languages with English translations.

Thereafter appears the author’s introduction to the Tafsir and a sample of the

Tafsir from Hidayatul Qur’an, vol. II.

by Professor Dr. Wahbah al-Zuhayli, a great Islamic scholar, author

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

[This is an English translation of the introduction of Hidayatul Qur’an

by Professor Dr. Wahbah al-Zuhayli, a great Islamic scholar, author

of a famous Tafsir “al-Tafsir al-Munir fi al-A’qidah

wa al-Manhaj” and also of many other Islamic books].

In the name of Allah, The compassionate and merciful

We praise Allah (swt) and seek His help; and peace be upon His ummi messenger,

his famiy members, and his real followers until the Day of Judgment.

Undoubtedly, the Qur’an is full of hidayah (guidance), and the strait path to the

jannah (heaven) for those who follow this hidayah. The scholars of Islam have

been giving serious attention to this divine book since the inception of Islam, and

have been providing important services to the Qur’an in the form of writing Tafsir.

I was also fortunate enough to be able to write a Tafsir entitles “al-Tafsir al-Munir

fi al-A’qidah wa al-Manhaj.”

Mankind have been receiving hidayah from these books of Tafsir.

I am happy that Professor Dr. Abul Hasan M Sadeq, a bosom friend of mine and a

notable A’lim (Islamic scholar), has been fortunate enough to write a Tafsir

entitled “Hidayatul Qur’an”, and this has been done in a new approach which is

very useful. A unique feature of this Tafsir is that the author has provided the

teachings and lessons from each and every verse of the Qur’an under separate

headings.

I hope this Tafsir will be useful for the general readership, and also the specialists

will find their lost treasures.

I wish his effort would receive wide acceptance among the researchers in hidayah

from the holy book of Allah (swt).

May Allah (swt) accept such efforts from me and from all of us. Ameen !

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

[This is an English translation of the introduction of Hidayatul Qur’an by Allama Ubaidul

Haq, former Head Moulana of Madrasa-i-Alia, Dhaka, and former Khatib of the national

Baitul Mukarram mosque (equivalent to the Grand Mufti), Bangladesh].

Allah, the Almighty, declared that Qur’an provides guidance (hidayah) to the right path.

Since the inception of human race, Allah has sent his books to the Prophet of different

ages. The goal was to guide them to “Siratul Muntakim” or the straight path so that they

can achieve success in this world as well as in the eternal life of Akhirah, and they may

enter the eternal paradise and heaven by acquiring rida (satisfaction) of Allah. Prophets

are sent to humanity so that they can deliver realistic and practical knowledge of divine

scriptures/books. In addition, they are expected to establish a society which will be based

on Islamic ideals derived from divine books.

Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is the last messenger of Allah and the holy Qur’an is the

last divine book from Allah. There will be no more Prophet until Qiyamah, and thus there

will be no more divine scripture from Allah as well. So, this Quran is the only legislature

and code of conduct that is accepted by Allah. The holy Qur’an presents norms and

values for resolving all the issues of mankind that may arise until the Day of Judgment. It

is thus an obligation of mankind to ponder on the Qur’an in order to find solutions to all

the emerging problems and issues.

There has been numerous researchers concerning Qur’an resulting in a large number of

Tafsir books. Valuable commentaries and interpretations have been written on the Qur’an

in many languages. We can understand and realize the value and the meanings of the

Qur’an by studying them. One may find out lessons for and the solutions to real life

problems if we study these commentaries and interpretations very seriously and deeply.

But it becomes often difficult for general people to find out distinctive lessons from them.

It is a great pleasure for me to see that Professor Dr. Abul Hasan Md. Sadeq took the

initiative to do this painstaking job in his Tafsir book entitled Hidayatul Qur’an. The

unique feature of this Tafsir is that he has provided lessons to be derived from each and

every verse under separate headings for real life situations, which in my knowledge is not

done in any other Tafsir book. This will help the wider audience to accept and understand

the Qur’an.

I studied the whole work with utmost care and I believe that this “Hidayatul Quran” will

play an important role in helping mankind getting the needed guidance (hidayah) from

the Qur’an and for establishing the Islamic code of life. I wish and pray that Allah (swt)

accepts this effort and makes it a path finder to achieve Jannah for all of us.
