Message from Father Robert:
There are many unique customs that are associated with today’s feast of the Epiphany, one of them is the announcement of Easter. This was done at a time before printable calendars to announce the most important movable dates on the Liturgical Calendar. Even for today its purpose is important because it shows us the mystery of our salvation throughout the Liturgical year. When it is chanted we get a glimpse of the joy of Easter since it is sung in the same tone as the Exsultet, or the Easter Proclamation which is sung at the Easter Vigil. May God bless us as we enter into the year of our salvation 2021, and since we are still in the Christmas season, Merry Christmas.
Know, dear brethren (brothers and sisters), that, as we have rejoiced at the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, so by leave of God's mercy we announce to you also the joy of his Resurrection, who is our Savior. On the seventeenth day of February will fall Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of the fast of the most sacred Lenten season. On the fourth day of April you will celebrate with joy Easter Day, the Paschal feast of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the thirteenth day of May will be the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the twenty-third day of May, the feast of Pentecost. On the sixth day of June, the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. On the twenty-eighth day of November, the First Sunday of the Advent of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom is honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

There is a custom of blessing homes on the Feast of the Epiphany (6 January) when the family gather to ask God’s blessing on their home and family life. It is an invitation for Jesus to be a daily guest in our homes. Instructions for Blessing the Home Using the blessed chalk (which many parishes will bless and make available) mark the lintel of your front door as follows: 20 + C + M + B + 21 saying: The three Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar followed the star of God’s Son who became human two thousand and twenty-one years ago. May Christ bless our home and remain with us throughout the new year. Amen. Then say the following prayer: Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of you; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen.
20 + C + M + B + 21 The letters have two meanings. First, they represent the initials of the Magi — Caspar, Malchior, and Balthazar — who came to visit Jesus in His first home. They also abbreviate the Latin phrase, Christus mansionem benedicat: “May Christ bless the house.” The “+” signs represent the cross, and the “20” at the beginning and the “21” at the end mark the year. Taken together, this inscription is performed as a request for Christ to bless those homes so marked and that He stay with those who dwell therein throughout the entire year.
