MEDIEVAL CITY Ann-Marie Anderson Mayes Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March Class cost: Members $130 Visiting Stitchers $150 “Medieval City” is a counted canvaswork embroidery design based on a colouring-in design of the same name by Rosie Goodwin and Alice Chadwick. My version is worked in stranded silks on 24-count Congress Cloth, but it will work just as well if you choose to work it all in stranded cottons and you can choose to work on 18-count canvas if you prefer. Worked in your choice of colours, it is effectively a sampler that enables you to learn and master a wide variety of geometric stitches. You will use stitches as simple as back stitch through to a variety of modern twisty, triangular and lattice stitches. It’s all about colouring in with the gorgeous colours and textures that can be achieved with your humble needle and thread. I have made my completed embroidery into the cover of a handbound journal, but it would also work well as a feature panel on a bag or simply framed and hung on your wall. We will talk further about making up options in class. I’ll be happy to point you in the direction of tutorials online that might be helpful. I will provide a set of full colour instructions and a piece of congress cloth

(your choice of ecru or white) measuring at least 25cm x 30cm to each

student for $30 each. Alternatively, I can provide 18-count canvas in

white only measuring at least 35cm x 40cm.

SPANISH PUNTO IN ARIA—SEA STAR Christine P Bishop Sunday 18 October and Sunday 25 October 2020 Class cost: Members $110 Visiting Stitchers $130 This form of needlelace is synonymous with other of embroideries from

Spain that have a Moorish influence. The loops and ground are worked

over #371 gold couching thread with coloured silk threads or overdyed

#12 Perle cotton. For the Sea Star I have used the overdyed #12 Perle

cotton sold by the trading table as a fund raiser. You could also use

Cordonnet/Dentelle thread either overdyed or a solid colour.

The piece I studied in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam dated c.1615-c.1630

was worked with coloured silk threads over silver metal thread. Stitches

used are couching stitch and buttonhole stitch.
