“When you dream, you are returning to the home,the very womb of your spirit and a world that speaks

the language of your soul.” - Thomas Moore Gratitude to me is the grounding stone that sets your being inplace to have a strong and unshakable foundation. Gratitudecomes from a place of knowing deep within your soul that allis well and that all will continue to be well because youbelieve and have faith that the being who created the heavensand the earth has got your back. You were created to be unique each individual marking andblemish was placed upon you to make you special and one ofa kind. We however have turned what’s special about us intoweaknesses and obstacles that we ourselves have created.

How then can we turn this all around? We must explore thedeep corners of our being. At times the hardest thing we cando is to look within ourselves for answers for we are afraidto listen to what has been staring at us right on the face allalong. We are our worst enemy, strongest adversary but wecan also be our loudest cheerleader. We have got to retrainour mindset and start to give ourselves a break.

On this Thanksgiving month, lets practice Gratitude byreturning home to the place where it all starts for each andevery one of us. A place where we are at our best selves and,if we are not, we find a way to make it better. A place that aschildren we often visited but as adults we tend to forget.

This place is our dreams. The purest manifestation of ourdesires and clearest from of what we aspire for ourselves.God speaks to us in our dreams, it’s a place where we aresilent enough to listen and be still and know that all will bewell. Be kinder, laugh and cry more, verbalize your feelings, feeleach and every one of your limbs no matter how painful theymight be at times. Feel the wind, heat, rain as it brushes yourcheeks. Do so, knowing that with feeling and being present,experiencing each and every emotion that runs through andout of you will only get you closer to being in the mist ofGratitude and hence being in the space where God resides.

La gratitud para mí es la piedra a tierra que establece su seren el lugar para tener una base sólida e inquebrantable. Lagratitud viene de un lugar de saber lo profundo de su almaque todo está bien y que todo seguirá siendo así porque creey tiene fe en el ser que creó los cielos y la tierra esta cuidandoa su espalda.

Usted fue creado para ser único - cada marca individual ymancha se colocó sobre ti para hacerte especial y único en suclase. Sin embargo, nos hemos convertido lo que es especialacerca de nosotros en las debilidades y obstáculos quenosotros mismos hemos creado.

¿Cómo entonces podemos convertir esto todo? Debemosexplorar los rincones profundos de nuestro ser. A veces lacosa más difícil que podemos hacer es mirar dentro denosotros mismos en busca de respuestas de que tenemosmiedo de escuchar pero se ha mirándonos fijamente a laderecha en la cara todo el tiempo. Somos nuestro peorenemigo, el adversario más fuerte, pero también podemos sernuestra animadora más fuerte. Tenemos que capacitar anuestra forma de pensar y empezar a darnos un descanso.

En este mes de Acción de Gracias, practicamos la gratitud pormedio de volver a casa al lugar donde todo comienza paratodos y cada uno de nosotros. Un lugar donde estamos en lomejor de nosotros y, si no somos, encontramos una manera dehacerlo mejor. Un lugar que, como los niños a menudo nosfuimos, pero como adultos tendemos a olvidar.

Este lugar es nuestros sueños. La manifestación más pura denuestros deseos y más claro a partir de lo que aspiramos paranosotros mismos. Dios nos habla en nuestros sueños, es unlugar donde somos lo suficientemente silencioso paraescuchar y estar quietos y saber que todo estará bien.

Sé amable, reír y llorar más, verbalizar sus sentimientos,sentir todos y cada uno de sus miembros, no importa lodoloroso que podría ser a veces. Siente el viento, el calor, lalluvia, ya que roza las mejillas. Hagalo,sabiendo que consentimiento y estar presente, experimentando todos y cadaemoción que corre a través y fuera de ustedes sólo va aconseguir más cerca de ser en la niebla de la gratitud y por lotanto estar en el espacio donde reside Dios.

Gratitude is a discipline that needs to be cultivated anddeveloped. We want our children to express their gratitudeand appreciation when they receive something from someoneor hear compliments from someone. I see parents nudgingtheir children to say “thank you.” With their parents’reminder children learn to say “thank you”, an expression ofappreciation. That is how all of us grew up. We, however,are not always thankful. We easily take things for granted.Many times we don’t realize how much we have.

Jesus was a good example of showing gratitude. When he fedfive thousand people with five loaves of bread, he took theloaves and gave thanks. He did it in public so that everyonesaw and heard his gratitude. He gave thanks for commonnecessities of life. Many times we don’t appreciate thesenecessities until they’re taken away from us.

Jesus thanked God for answered prayers. Before he raisedLazarus from the dead, he looked up and said, “Father, Ithank you that you have heard me.” Many times we forgetthe answered prayers we have received.

Jesus also gave thanks at the Last Supper as he took thebread and the cup that represented his body and blood. Hewas able to see beyond the pain to the glory of salvation.Jesus thanked God for the suffering and sacrifice that hewould make. How many times have we thanked God forsuffering and sacrifice?

Not like Jesus, we don’t find many occasions that we givethanks to God for. Many times we are not able to see howmuch God gave us. We have our own expectations and whatGod gave may not meet our expectations. Sometimes, wecompare what we have with what others have, and we are notsatisfied because we want more than others.

There are circumstances and situations which we don’t feelvery thankful for. There are crises, tragedies, disasters, fatalaccidents in our lives that cause us so much pain and hurt -losing our loved one, illness, brokenness, losing a job,divorce, financial difficulties, and many others. When weknow that in seemingly unpleasant and painful circumstancesGod can bring something positive and good out of it, we cangive thanks. I have heard many heart-felt stories frompeople to whom God revealed His love and grace during theirdark valley time.

We can give thanks to God when we can see beyond oursituations and circumstance. We can thank God when weacknowledge everything we have is a gift from God. We cangive thanks to God when we trust Him and believe in Him.

La gratitud es una disciplina que necesita ser cultivada ydesarrollada. Queremos que nuestros niños puedan expresarsu gratitud y apreciacion cuando reciben algo de alguien oescuchan elogios de alguien. Veo padres empujando a sushijos a decir "gracias". Con recordatorio de sus padres, loshijos aprender a decir "gracias", una expresión deagradecimiento. Así es como todos nosotros crecimos.Nosotros, sin embargo, no siempre estamos agradecidos.Tomamos fácilmente las cosas por echo. Muchas veces nonos damos cuenta de lo mucho que tenemos.

No como Jesús, nosotros no encontramos muchas ocasionesque damos gracias a Dios. Muchas veces no somos capacesde ver lo mucho que Dios nos dio. Tenemos nuestras propiasexpectativas y lo que Dios le dio tal vez no satisface nuestrasexpectaciónes, A veces, podemos comparar lo que tenemoscon lo que otros tienen, y no estamos satisfechos porquequeremos más que otros.

Hay circunstancias y situaciones por las cuales no nossentimos muy agradecidos. Hay crisis, tragedias, desastres,accidentes fatales en nuestras vidas que nos causan tantodolor y daño - perder nuestro ser querido, enfermedad, elquebrantamiento, la pérdida de un trabajo, el divorcio,dificultades financieras, y muchos otros. Cuando sabemosque en circunstancias aparentemente desagradables ydolorosas Dios puede traer algo positivo y bueno de ello,podemos dar gracias. He oído muchas historias sentidas de lagente a quien Dios revela su amor y gracia durante su tiempoen el valle oscuro.

Podemos dar gracias a Dios cuando podemos ver más allá denuestras situaciones y circunstancias. Podemos dar gracias aDios cuando reconocemos todo lo que tenemos es un regalode Dios. Podemos dar gracias a Dios cuando confiamos en él

When we fully realize the depth of His love that was revealedon the cross, we can be thankful.

How do you give thanks to God? I encourage you to take amoment everyday and write down blessings and give thanksto God. Take some time with your family to share thoseblessings. If you write down God’s blessings each and everyday, you will be amazed by the abundance of blessings fromHim and cannot help but thank Him. There is another way togive thanks to God. It is to serve and help others and thechurch by volunteering for the various ministries of ourchurch. Serving God and others will give us overflowing joy.Thankful people are happy people because they know theycan count on the blessings from God… all an expression ofHis love for them.

I’d like to share a poem, “Count your blessings!”

Count your blessings instead of your crossesCount your gains instead of your lossesCount your joys instead of your sorrowsCount your friends instead of your enemiesCount your smiles instead of your tearsCount your courage instead of your fearsCount your full years instead of your leanCount your kind deeds instead of your meanCount your health instead of your wealthCount on God instead of yourself.

FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Many thanks to LaDell Stapp for mowing and trimmingthe Parsonage lawn. LaDell also did some plumbing onthe kitchen sink and the toilets. Both seem to beoperating correctly now. Many thanks, LaDell.

The Salvation Army came on October 22 to pick up theleftover rummage from our last sale. However, due totruck space, they only took half of the leftovers. Theywill return on November 19 to take the remaining half.Many thanks to Mark Phillips for doing the scheduling.

Lisa Palombi used another morning of her day off onOctober 23 to paint the stucco on the Alvarado Streetside of the church. She managed to recruit a streetperson and a high school boy to help paint around thesteps, flower planter box, and walls so that the crackfiller, chips, etc. are now covered. The outside of thechurch is now in great shape to withstand the winter elniño weather we are expecting. Thanks again, Lisa.

Last Saturday, November 24, the Cal-Pac UMW hadtheir Annual Celebration at Holliston UMC. It was awonderful celebration. The members of the church wereso hospitable, especially the UMM who directed traffic,and the youth who were ushers and also entertained uswith performances during lunch time. There was suchbeautiful music. Our Guest Speaker was YvetteRichards, the UMW National President. She urged thatwe should be cheerleaders for God and the UMW.

El pasado sábado, 24 de Noviembre, la Cal-Pac UMWtuvieron su celebración anual en Holliston UMC. Fueuna celebración maravillosa. What is happening in the District? We will have ourChristmas party on November 22 at St. Johns UMC.This will still be sponsored by the Los Angeles District.

As to our local unit, we are participating in this year’s“Operation Christmas Child” Program. The filled andproperly labeled shoeboxes for this program are due onSunday, November 22. We are planning to have a“packing party” to see which group can pack moreboxes, either on November 15 or November 22, or bothdays. Lorena Rodriguez will be in charge of the programin my absence There is a great need for shoeboxes forboys 9 to 15. Remember, these are boys who have verylittle. I have the labels ready and can pass them out toyou on the Sundays before the deadline. However, thistime, we do not have shoeboxes to give out. You willneed to bring your own. We suggest using sturdy plasticboxes, but any shoebox will do.

The EPUMW will host a Whole-Church ChristmasParty on December 13 after the morning worshipservice. It will be a potluck. In lieu of exchanging gifts,we ask that you make a $5.00 donation for the MethodistChurch in Arcadia. Our Annual Christmas Party hasalways been a very enjoyable activity. We ask everyoneto invite their neighbors and friends to join us in thecelebration.

We are asking parents who have young adult childrenattending college to give us their address, e-mail andphone number so we can keep in touch with them andsend them care packages.

I will be on vacation from November 11, 2015 toJanuary 1, 2016. However, I will remain in contact bycomputer or smartphone through the internet.

Outreach Project: “Shine, Echo Park, Shine” Proyecto de Alcanzar: “Brilla, Echo Park, Brilla”

On October 25, we went out to the community andcleaned the streets - Reservoir Street, Alvarado Street,Montana Street, and Glendale Boulevard. We metmany people on the street while we were cleaning.They expressed their appreciation for our good deed.Thanks to those who participated in the clean-up. Wewill clean up the streets in our neighborhood onNovember 1 again and plan to do the clean-upmonthly afterwards. This is a wonderful way ofshining the light of Jesus Christ to our community. Itis also a time of fellowship. Make sure that you wearour church T-shirt. The church T-shirt is available at$5. If you want to buy the T-shirt, please let Rev. Kimknow.

Encontramos muchaspersonas en la calle mientras estabamos limpiando.Expresaron su aprecio por nuestra buena acción.Gracias a los que participaron en la limpieza.Vamos alimpiar las calles de nuestro vecindario otra vez el 1 deNoviembre, y despues hacerlo mensual. Esto es unamaravillosa manera de hacer brillar la luz deJesucristo a nuestra comunidad. Es tiempo tambien decompañerismo. Asegurese a poner los T-shirt denuestra iglesia.
