SJS Cheerleading Tryout Packet 2018-2019

Dear Parents and Students,

We are so excited that you are considering trying out to be a part of our 2018-2019 SJS cheerleading squad. Our goal is

to support and encourage our sports teams to do their best while also developing our own skills at practice. In addition

to being involved with multiple sports, we also have the privilege to support our schools academic and service

organizations.

Please read carefully through the following information, as it explains all the commitments and regulations for

participating in cheerleading tryouts, as well as expectations of cheerleaders at SJS throughout the summer and the

2018-2019 school year.

The final page needs to be filled out completely by the student and parent. The form is due back to school no later than

MONDAY March 26, 2018. Please return all forms to Mrs. Peggy in the front office.

All prospective cheerleaders will need to attend the Tryout Clinic Tuesday April 10th, Wednesday April 11th, and Thursday

April 12th from 3:00-4:30pm to learn the material they will be required to perform at tryouts. CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS

ARE ON FRIDAY, APRIL 13h. Tryouts will begin at 3:15pm and will end around 5:00pm.

If your student plans to try out on Friday, on Thursday April 12th, there is a mandatory parent meeting at 4:00pm. Just

the parents will be in this meeting.

Girls are asked to wear comfortable sporty clothing with tennis shoes to the clinic. For tryouts, they should wear dark

colored shorts (black, navy) and a red shirt with tennis shoes. The St. Jude Spirit shirt is fine.

CD’s are available for purchase ($1.00) at the clinic. The CD will have the music for the dance.

All cheerleaders are asked to be at our summer camp for team building and skill learning. The dates for camp this

summer will be during the week of June 18-23. Exact dates will be provided soon. Please add these dates to your

calendars now so vacations do not interfere with our camp dates.

Other requirements to consider when trying out for cheerleading:

- There is a financial obligation involved with cheerleading. We rent our uniforms from St. Jude athletics and buy

camp clothes, shoes, bloomers, hair bows, body liners, socks, pompoms, bags, and a few miscellaneous items

throughout the year.

- In August/September we put on a clinic for our elementary St. Jude Cougars. All Cheerleaders will be asked to

work and lead this clinic. Parent involvement and participation is also appreciated.

- There is a time commitment involved with cheerleading. We cheer at football, boys’ basketball and girls’

basketball. These games are on weeknights and weekends. We also practice once a week (TBA) after school for

1 or 1.5 hours.

If you have questions about the tryout process, please let us know. We look forward to working with you all. GEAUX

GOUGARS!!
