Remembering St Brendan's and St Ann's
in your will
Many people have given bequests over the
years to our parish collaborative and we are
grateful for their generosity. Gifts and bequests
are a line item in our parish budgets and as the
fiscal year comes to a close some have inquired
about the logistics of giving a large or small gift
as part of your estate planning. If you would
like more information about how this can be
done in loving memory of anyone in your life
please contact our finance manager Nancy Lafoe
or any member of our finance councils. May
the Lord continue to inspire us to be cheerful
givers.

we have decided to clean out much of the dis-
carded items in the storage spaces that have
been with us for decades. If you can spare
some time between the hours of 9 and Noon on
Saturday September 7th to throw away books,
furniture and who knows what else into a
dumpster that would be greatly appreciat-
ed. Many hands make light work!

The Ignatian Volunteer Corps® (IVC) provides
men and women, most age 50 or better, opportu-
nities to serve others and to transform lives. IVC
matches the talents of experienced volunteers
with the greatest social needs of our time. IVC
works in partnership with hundreds of communi-
ty partner organizations. These nonprofit organi-
zations provide Ignatian Volunteers with sub-
stantive work to serve individuals who have
slipped through this country’s safety net. Hun-
dreds of community organizations are on waiting
lists to get an Ignatian Volunteer.

RCIA and Adult Confirmation
Every year the Church welcomes many
adults into her fold completely who may be from
other denominations and those who may not
have completed the sacraments of initiation. We
have several people who are already in this pro-
cess and we are looking for others that you may
know who would like to be received into the
Church. We would like to form a team of two or
three confirmed parishioners form an RCIA and
Adult Confirmation team to help run the discus-
sion classes and be a spiritual support to those
who are journeying into the faith. For more in-
formation please contact Fr. Brian at:

College students are often told by their professors
that just showing up for class is not enough to pass
a class. It takes more than just being around good
teaching and educated people to learn well. Stu-
dents must read, study, understand and discuss the
material of the course. It has to become part of them
if they are to really get a good education as well as
good grades.
Faith has the same kind of requirements. Many peo-
ple, including non-believers can tell you what the
Church teaches and what you must do to practice
faith. They can recite prayers and explain sacra-
ments, morality and the Bible. But that does not
make them Catholic. The words of the Gospel, the
effects of grace and the practice of faith must sink
in, transform and conform our lives to Christ. It is
the daily process of conversion, turning away from
sin and to the Lord.
If God gave grades for faith, what would your
grade be? To pass, you must not take faith for
granted, but work at it every day. We cannot just
hang around Church; we must be the Church, a vis-
ible sign of the love of God present in the world. We
are given the tools, the knowledge and the power to
transform the world. Jesus is the teacher. Let’s be
His best students!
