TRANSFORMING….
We have completed our “Transforming Giving” Stewardship emphases, and we are underway with the “Becoming a Transforming Congregation” Vi-sioning for Our Future. By this time, I hope that you have been contacted about being in a Prayer Triad (your particular group may have more than 3). This
is actually the second step in our journey.
Step 1 has been completed: The Visioning Team met with Dick Hamm and reviewed the demographics and
talked the “ethos” of North Chevy Chase Christian Church. Dick Hamm then
presented his “Contextual Analysis” to members of the congregation at a
luncheon on October 7. (A copy of this Contextual Analysis is available
through the church office or on line at www.nc4disciples.org)
Step 2 is in process: Prayer Triads/Groups are being formed to meet for 10 meetings (1 1/2 each)
with the purposes engaging in Bible study, prayer, and discussion of a specific
focus question, with the notes from the gathering being sent on to Dr. Hamm.
Step 3 on the journey: Once all of the groups have completed their 10 meetings and all information
is in to Dr. Hamm, he will process that, and bring it back to the Visioning Team
who will then read through all of the materials, and attempt to discern what
may emerge as our “Future Story.”
Step 4 yet on the journey: The Visioning Team, after prayerful consideration and study, will bring its
conclusions to the Congregation for consensus on our shared “Future Story.”
Step 5 on the journey: We begin working together toward the goals we set for ourselves, with
continued coaching from Dr. Hamm.
PLEASE KEEP THE VISIONING TEAM IN YOUR PRAYERS: Chair—Nancy Longo, Joan Sidell, Ann McClure,
Rebecca Fanning, Rachel Solomon, Richard Sherman; staff—Glenn Zuber and Cheryl Tatham
IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED TO BE IN A GROUP AND WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE, PLEASE
CONTACT NANCY LONGO.

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. Mahatma Gandhi

Disciples have a long, remarkable
history of post-secondary and theological education. Our Thanksgiving Offering continues a Disciples tradition of helping emerging leaders find their vision, voice and vocation, supporting all of our 14 colleges or universities, 3 seminaries and 4 seminary foundations/divinity houses in our common ministry of
education.
Our congregation’s gifts to the Thanksgiving Offering help provide a nurturing environment where students form their vision of the future, find their voice in the exchange of ideas, and prepare for their vocation. Attention to the spiritual formation of the individual during this hinge-point time is critically important, and is a ministry that our schools share in common with our
churches.
In celebration of this Disciples’ commitment to higher education, if you would also like to make an additional gift to our North Chevy Chase Christian Church Scholarship Fund to assist our NC4 youth attend college, please mark your checks as
“Scholarship Gift.”

CLEAN UP-CLEAN OUT DAY
SUNDAY AFTERNOON, NOVEMBER 25, FOLLOWING WORSHIP
Stick in your cleaning clothes when you come to church on the 25th, and stay around as we
share in a “Clean Up-Clean Out” afternoon. As we get ready for the Christmas holidays
and the unpacking of Christmas decorations, this is an OPTIMUM time to do some house/
closet/garage cleaning. We will try to attack as many areas as we can, evaluating as we go, what needs to
be tossed and what needs to be saved to maximize the storage space of our facilities.
Grab a dust rag and a trash bag and come work off your turkey and dressing!
