Autonomous Province of Trento (Trentino) Trentino is an Autonomous Province in the
Northeast of Italy, situated in the Italian Alps, at the core of Dolomites
Autonomous legislation and administration was established by the Italian Constitutional Chart and from a Special Statute of 1948
Surface area: 6.233 km2 (2% of whole Italy) Territorial geography:
20% above 2.000 m 10% below 500 m 65% forest
Inhabitants: ~ 530.000 217 Municipalities; 5 with > 10.000 residents Different cultures integrated:
o Several linguistic minority groups o Urban, rural and mountain areas
16 Valley Districts 90% of local taxes are retained Per-capita GDP: 30.700 Euro (2011) Public investment in R&D: 1,2% of GDP

Innovation as a policy driver in Trentino In recent years the Autonomous Province of Trento has developed a distinctive strategy on how Public
Administration, university and research institutions, and companies can collaborate to leverage ICT to improve quality of life, and impact service provision to citizens and the local economy
Implemented through close interaction between public innovation, demand-side planning, R&D offered by the local research ecosystem, and the involvement of enterprises in product/service development where the quality of service provided is paramount
Boosted after the involvement of Trentino as primary member of the EIT ICT Labs, ICT-focused Knowledge and Innovation Community funded from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology,
Trento RISE Non-Profit Association founded by the University of
Trento and the Bruno Kessler Foundation, core partner of the EIT ICT Labs Italian node and developing the
