Dear Orienteering Friends,

I am pleased to welcome competitors, team leaders, officials and guest to the World Orienteering Championship and World Trail Orienteering Championship in Italy.

Italy is going to be the WOC and WTOC hosting country for the first time

Both Championships will be held in two different important Italian regions: Trentino and Veneto..

Orienteering began in our country more than 30 years ago. I began to practice Orienteering from the beginning and I’m proud to be now President of the Italian Federation and host you competing in our beautiful forests of Lavarone and Asiago Highlands, eating typical Italian food and visiting historical centre like Trento and Venice.

I wish You high motivation in your training for 2014 World Orienteering Championships and World Trail Orienteering Championships in Italy.

It is with great pleasure and immense honour that I have the opportunity to welcome orienteers from all over the world, especially those attending the World Championships in Italy.

I am sure that the areas selected will offer a picture of outstanding natural beauty, spectacular arenas and some of the most beautiful mountains in Italy. The technical terrain and the added value offered by Venice will satisfy the most demanding expectations.

This will be a great sporting event and an opportunity to show the Orienteering world, once again, that Italy can organize events with great professionalism, using all our best resources.

The World Championships will take place from July 5-13, 2014. A new formula might be adop-ted for the first time: details are still to be deci-ded by IOF; from 5 to 6 medal events (finals) are expected. During the World Orienteering Championships 2014, the Trail-O World Cham-pionships (WTOC) and the 5 Days of Italy 2014 (WOC Tour) will grant a high quality action-pa-cked week in the wonderful areas of Trentino and Veneto, north of ITALY.

The Foot Orienteering and Trail Oriente-ering World Championships take place every year. It is the first time Italy orga-nizes the World Orienteering and Trail Orienteering Championships.

CLASSES AND ENTRY REGULATIONS

WOC

The Competition Rules for IOF Foot Orienteering Events will be applied to participation in the World Orienteering Championships 2014

“There is one class for women and one class for men, there are no age restrictions.”

WTOC

The Competition Rules for IOF Trail Orienteering Events will be applied to participation in the World Trail Orienteering Championships 2014

“All competitors, regardless of sex, age or physical ability/disability are eligible to be entered for the Open Class competition.

Only competitors who have a permanent disability that significantly reduces their mobility are eligible to be entered for the Paralympic Class”

FIVE DAYS OF ITALY

During the WOC-WTOC week a 5 days public competition will be held for all classes, men and women.
