Brunel Business School is located in West London, equidistant between the City and the M4 corridor, andclose to Heathrow Airport. It’s not just about geography, it’s a mindset.
Although some of our alumni go on to work in seniorpositions in the powerhouses of the City, we don’t only turn out accountants, financial directors and actuaries. Our students come from all kinds of backgrounds, inmarketing, retail, the public sector, healthcare, aviation, manufacturing, you name it. And when they leave they go on to an equally diverse range of professions, businesses andenterprises. So it’s only appropriate that we have connectionsnot just with big City players, but also public bodies, industry and the big multinationals right on our doorstep.
Our position in the shadow of Heathrow Airport also givesus great international connections. Around half our studentscome from overseas, and welcome not just the convenienceof easy travel back home, but also the rich multicultural mixof the local area. Altogether, we believe our location reflectswhat we are. Wide ranging, diverse and international.

1. OrientationIt may be some time since you last undertook a period of formalacademic study, so your study skills may be a little rusty. To helpyou prepare for your MBA, either full or part-time, you will beginwith a three day orientation that introduces the key concepts ofthe MBA and provides valuable advice on how to study effectively.
2. Core modulesOver the course of your MBA, you will study eight core modules, which cover the essentials of business activity.
i. Corporate and business financeYou will gain a thorough understanding of the world of finance, the concepts of risk and the cost of capital, as well as the processof financial management in the long and short term. You will alsolearn the principles of management accounting, and systematictechniques for analysing and evaluating the financial health of an organisation, including the construction and interpretation of financial statements.
ii. Leading people and managing organisationsGood organisations recognise that human capital is a key resource. This module helps you understand the many factors that influencepeople’s behaviour and their effective performance. Through thedevelopment of critical thinking and independent judgement, youwill gain a better theoretical and practical appreciation of how tomotivate, lead, work together, communicate with colleagues, andmanage conflicts of interest.
iii. Strategic marketing managementThis module will give you a thorough knowledge of the principalmarketing concepts and how marketing has evolved as a businessdiscipline with the rapid expansion of new technology. You willlearn how to conduct a marketing audit, construct a marketingplan, and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing activities.
iv. Operations managementIn this module you will explore the approaches, techniques and tools of managing operations. You will gain a greaterawareness of how strategic issues, both within the boundaries of organisations and beyond, affect how operations are plannedand controlled. You will also develop a better appreciation of therelationship between performance imperatives and the design ofoperations or services.
v. Information systems in organisationsYou will examine the changing role of information systems (IS) and their impact on individuals, business and society. You will study a range of topics relating to eBusiness, customerrelationships, knowledge management, and the latest theories, practical developments and future trends in the field. Drawing on your own business experience, you will identify and resolve a specific concern using a strategic IS solution.

Corporate and competitive strategyThis module will introduce the concepts and methodological toolsand techniques for analysing an organisation’s strategic position. You will gain an appreciation of the complex issues and challengesthat face those responsible for the strategic management oforganisations in changing and uncertain conditions.
viii. Managing for the futureIt is not the aim of this module that students will be able to predict the future! Instead, the aim is to introduce students toseveral methods developed specifically for considering, elaboratingand interrogating ‘futures’ more thoroughly, and in a structured or semi-structured way, in order to improve the quality of actionsthat they will be capable of taking in their own rights as managersand practitioners. These methods include those developed inindustry as well as within academia.
A typical Brunel MBA will consist of orientation, eight core modules, a Business Project ofyour own choosing, a Leadership Masterclass Series, and a continuous programme of careerdevelopment. Teaching methods include lectures, interactive case discussions, small group andplenary discussions as well as presentations, role plays and videos.
