Associate Dean’s Welcome

Associate Dean’s Welcome

Welcome to the MBA Programme at the Suleman Dawood School of Business(SDSB). Since 1986 it has been producing individuals that lead, manage andimpact change in leading organisations. Our graduates are committed to exceland the skill set imparted to them through the rigorous regime of case methodof teaching and the principle of general management gives them the requisitetraining to do so.

The SDSB faculty consists of both renowned researchers and industry experts. This amalgamation is particularly beneficial to our teaching pedagogy. The casemethod of teaching is a holistic approach to learning, enhancing the graduate’scomprehensive managerial calibre. It combines theory with practice in aclassroom environment and brings the diverse professional, academic andcultural backgrounds of the individuals to the fore in a joint learning experiencethat is both multi-disciplinary and meaningful. In doing so, the case method ofteaching integrates a student’s cross functional learning and makes him/herunderstand how complex management issues and decisions have a bearingacross an organisation. It is this understanding and its application that makesour graduates the prime choice of employers the world over and has made theLUMS MBA the best programme in the country in less than two decades.

The Competency and Professional Development Modules, a new initiative, areespecially aimed at enhancing the soft skills of the graduates. A series of guestlectures, field visits, social emersion programmes, networking sessions withindustry experts and various student centric activities keep the individuals intouch with the market and build their skill set accordingly.

To ensure that a global perspective is given to the students while retaining localgrounding, a close linkage with various research centres of the SDSB isestablished. This linkage provides a relevant and up to date curriculum. Ourregion contains one fifth of the world population, understanding this uniqueposition in today’s global village and the opportunities that its markets have inthe future, are key to identifying a global management career in the future. Wealso have representation from various countries of South Asia and various studentexchange programmes across the globe give students the opportunity to addto their international exposure.

We have a dedicated MBA Placement Office that facilitates the placement ofthe graduates in careers of their choice. They organise various networking andmentoring sessions to expose the students to the challenges ahead of themand to prepare them to face those challenges squarely. The MBA PlacementOffice works very closely with the industry requirements and helps studentsmake an informed choice.

Our strong alumni presence throughout the region and the world speaks of theachievements of the graduates. Through their constant support in the guestspeaker sessions as well as linkages with the industry, they are offered anopportunity to give back to their alma mater while partaking in the exemplaryresearch being carried out by the faculty.
