Welcome to BizBash’s first Invitation Look Book. BizBash compiled this showcase as a demonstration of how outstanding invitations go far beyond the basics of where to go, when to be there, and how to RSVP. Rather, these communiqués embody the mission of their host and the meaning of the event. They brand the event while creating a sense of anticipation. A great invitation is like an amuse-bouche—it provides a taste of what’s to come and celebrates the experience about to unfold.

BizBash aims to inspire excellence in all facets of event planning and we hope you find this collection does just that. We certainly do and hope to make this Look Book the first of many.

For a Valentine’s Day ball with a political bent, Creative Intelligence produced an invitation that played “Hail to the Chief” when opened and looked like an invite to a presidential campaign fund-raiser. Also included was a comedic pamphlet called “10 Reasons Why You Should Think Carefully Before Running for President.” (The top reason: “Monica Lewinsky once listed you as a character reference.”)

Mackenzie Brown Design MacKenzie Brown captured the benefit’s four-pronged theme with a single logo. Decorated with butterflies, flowers, swirl-ing vines, and snowflakes, the gala’s invitation incorporated a theme-appropriate quotation from William Browne. The team also designed the event’s campaign kickoff invitation, tucking colorful leaves into each envelope. Seasonal flowers accompa-nied save-the-date cards.

Along Came Mary Productions Guests who went home with a photo could insert the image into the event invitation: a mouse pad that also acted as a frame designed by Along Came Mary’s Brenda Luginbill, who used 100 percent recycled tires to created the pad. Other environmentally friendly touches included a green (both in color and eco-mindedness) carpet made from recycled glass, a 100-foot-long hedgerow step-and-repeat with attached signage made from recycled paper, and a kid-friendly menu including mini hamburgers and pizza made with organic and locally grown ingredients.

Mackenzie Brown Design Chaired by Hayworth’s daughter Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, the 2009 gala took place at the Hilton Chicago on May 9. With the theme “An Evening in Monte Carlo,” the event drew more than 600 guests and raised almost $1 million.

Grand Central Marketing Brian Ely, director of pets marketing for Meow Mix parent company Del Monte Foods, tapped New York-based Grand Central Marketing to produce the party at Hollywood & Highland venue the Highlands. Grand Central created the party’s invitations, each of which arrived with a shiny new penny guests could use to scratch off a silver patch that revealed event details.

Mackenzie Brown Design For a ball that anchored the museum’s yearlong celebra-tion of the Abraham Lincoln bicentennial, MacKenzie Brown Design created an invite that nodded to the iconic style of the American president. Designed with cream stock and deep brown ink, the invitation incorporated images of top hats, pocket watches, and a drawing that commemorated Lincoln’s inaugural ball.

Alpine Creative Group The theme of the event was String Theory: A combination of sensory music and dance. We branded the event with a custom logo and illustrative icon. A fun and elegant look was created using a combination of complimentary metallic stocks. The RSVP card was mauve stock while the rest of the invitation was midnight blue. The ensemble was further enhanced by using a combination of foil stamping and flat printing, both on the invi-tation and the outer envelope. Tying a thin metal string around the invitation kept the all the pieces of the ensemble together while helping avoid the expense of die cutting and mounting. The string was tied in a manner to match the artwork on the invitation and was a direct nod to the theme of the event.

Card Tricks Designs The invitation design was multi faceted; showcasing both the brand, and their strong association with breast cancer through the “Lives Inspired” book and “United We Cure” CD. The invitation was created using a silkscreened acrylic panel and the “Lives Inspired” book cover image, lovingly held together with a custom rubber bracelet featuring the PRVCY PREMIUM name and United We Cure tagline. The CD was showcased with tipped-in cover art, and complimented with a company mission statement. Since PRVCY PREMIUM is a premium denim company actual jean material was used for the box insert. The metal box invitation was mailed using a (trademark breast cancer color) pink metal bubble mailer.

Special Occasions Event Planning Replicated poker chips were customized with preliminary event information and displayed within Tiffany’s Atlas bowl which is inspired by Tiffany’s iconic Atlas. Each guest received a Gucci travel messenger bag as part of their invitation. Once the messen-ger bag was removed, they were surprised with a note that instructed them ‘to keep looking, there is more magic inside’. Beneath the Gucci bag was a custom-made throw back record disc invitation. The album cover for the record disc was blind embossed with ‘50’ in the iconic Gucci pattern. The formal invita-tion was adhered to the front cover atop a photograph of Mr. & Mrs. Johnson. Also included were three records that were each imprinted with the event information for that day, i.e. Record One had Day One information, Record Two had Day Two, etc. .

Creative Intelligence, Inc. This invitation suite (save the date, invitation and RSVP card/envelope) and program set the stage for a magical evening and echoed the purple/bottle motif taken directly from the set design of the opening opera, Donizettis LElisir DAmore. The materials were designed using a shimmery paper stock and a regal silver/pewter foil and emboss on top of a flooded front panel in lavender.

California Science Center Foundation

A vibrant hot pink and purple invitation labeled LVPD SEALED EVIDENCE lured guests into the mystery surrounding the evening. The envelope was clad with thumbprints and a special Discovery Ball, Welcome to Vegas sign stamp. Guests received a “Las Vegas Police Department Murder Book” as an invite to the Ball! Within the murder book they learned just WHO and WHAT was going on at the California Science Center. Jane Showgirl’s body had been discovered at the California Science Center and it was up to them to solve the murder mystery. A glamorous Vegas backdrop provided the setting at both the Ball and within the invite, and the evidence packet included items for guests to inspect before their arrival. There were individual sleeves that included the program, RSVP card, and leadership information.

Ceci New York Emphasizing its commitment to introducing students to a green lifestyle, the Mandell School marked its grand open-ing with an eco-friendly invitation. Reusable wooden boxes containing the invite arrived wrapped in original artwork created by students. The invitation, printed on recycled paper with environmentally sound ink, lay inside the box with vials of water and soil that could be used to plant the card, which was embedded with wildflower seeds.

Team Epiphany Team Epiphany kicked off a 6-market tour with the Pepsi Refresh Project Super Bowl party in Miami. At the event, the first winners of the Pepsi Refresh Project were announced. Celebrity personalities Rihanna as well as Benji and Joel Madden were also there to join in the festivities. Other attend-ees included Super Bowl fans, key press and national influenc-ers. The Pepsi Football Helmet invite drove strong interest lead-ing up to the event along with engaging celebrities to attend. Joel Madden even wore the helmet invite and tweeted a picture to his followers.

Ceci New York The goal was to design a highly stylized exclusive invitation. The invitation is shown with classic clean typography, allow-ing the materials of which it was created to be highlighted. Letterpressed and foil-stamped on bevel and foil-tinted pearl white stock, the invitation is mounted within a wrap created from luxurious metallic paper, foil stamped with the emblem on the cover, and offset printed with the featured timepiece on the inside. The paper itself was selected for its sumptuous radi-ance with actual golf flecks mixed into the paper to symbol-ize luxury. The shape of the Patek Philippe logo was used as a design element on the cover of the invitation and also as a frame for the watch to sit in.

John Kneapler Design This invitation literally took flight! Designed for the 2009 Annual Recognition Gala on the USS Intrepid for Hackensack University Medical Center, nautical flags spelled out secret codes in combination with a feather light balsa-wood airplane. The event information was silkscreened onto the wings. Emulating an airplane ticket, the wooden aircraft fit snugly into the invitation s interior pocket. Kids and Adults alike loved assembling the plane and flying it in anticipation of this festive evening on this historic aircraft carrier. Much praise was given to this unique invitation at the sold out event.

Ceci New York The design of this piece references exotic diamonds with a modern gemstone pattern in silver metallic foil on luxuri-ous sleek black paper. The pattern is inspired by the pave diamonds utilized throughout the Blackout Collection, and uses modern fonts fitting to the audience with a touch of script, demonstrating the elegance of the event. The set includes a matching entry card, entitling the attendee to a goodie bag, and was delivered in a silver shimmer envelope, alluding to the invitation design inside.

Creative Intelligence, Inc. Each year, Creative Intelligence works with Turner Entertainment to create a chic and fashion-forward color palette and event design that reflects the trends of the season. The 2010/2011 season was reflected in the timeless, yet trendy design of this Save the Date, Invitation and Ticket suite, where charcoal and canary yellow reigned as king. All three pieces featured an envelope that was printed with a custom canary and white graphic-lettering pattern that echoed the distinction of the TNT and TBS brands. Each piece, though slightly differ-ent, was crafted out of a thick, 100% cotton, bright white paper stock.

Dragonfly Custom Design Instead of an expected paper invitation, custom silk panels and boxes were hand made. The incorporation of non-traditional materials (twine, palm fiber paper and iridescent woven paper) with the traditional dupioni silk put a visual spin on the invitation that recalled elements from the hotel’s decor and color scheme. A series of 3 mailers was created, building upon each other and culminating in the final, large boxed invite. The first mailer was accompanied by a large faux engagement ring to tie into the idea of ‘proposing’ that the writer attend. The second mailer was sent with a custom wedding cake truffle tower created by the head chef at the hotel. In the main invitation, the inclusion of a personalized room key bearing the recipient’s name and over-all graphical theme was a special feature.

Atelier Isabey To celebrate the opening of the Chocolats de Provence choco-late store we decided to share a gourmet tasting experience in the form of invitation chocolate boxes which were hand delivered to each of 100 guests. The invitations were red velour covered boxes which opened to reveal the information and event details on the inner cover. Inside the box were custom created chocolates with images of the new shop as well as chocolate and Provence inspired artwork. The designs on each chocolate were created using a unique technique of delicately molding white chocolate onto dark chocolate to create designs and photographic images.
