ANNIE MOSES BAND COMING TO FUMC, BRYAN

The story of the Annie Moses Band began in a cotton field in the 1930’s of North

Texas when great-grandmother, Annie Moses, picked cotton as a

sharecropper. She scrimped and saved to pay for piano lessons for her daughter,

Jane. Jane learned from that sacrifice and years later pinched pennies so that

her daughter, Robin, could learn to play as well. That pursuit took her to

Oklahoma City University where she met jazz pianist and arranger, Bill Wolaver.

Together, Robin and Bill have written many great sacred works including the

Sandi Patti hit, “Make His Praise Glorious”

The Wolaver’s worked hard to give their children the best music education

possible. That hard work took those children all the way to the Julliard School of

Music where they excelled in a classical music environment. It also brought them

to a crossroads and the decision was made that they would work together to

develop an eclectic sound that blended their background of unique roots music

including folk and jazz with classical polish! That collaboration is today the Annie

Moses Band!

They have recorded over a dozen albums, produced two award-winning PBS

specials, and performed on stages all over the world including Carnegie Hall and

the Grand Ole Opry!! In 2010, the 3 Wolaver daughters and 3 Wolaver sons

founded the non-profit, Annie Moses Foundation, which nurtures the artistic

development of families along with supporting music conservatories and sharing

online music curricula. They also provide an annual Summer Music Festival in

Nashville, TN where they work with young musicians in hopes of seeing a new

generation of faith-filled artists who can fill their chosen art forms with truth,

beauty, and goodness.

Pulling Weeds and Planting Seeds in

Your Marriage

“Marriage is a long-term

exercise in gardening.” At

the Marriage Conference

on November 9th,

attendees learned from

Pastor Paul Tripp how to

pull the destructive weeds

in our marriages.

Selfishness, Laziness, Busyness, Inattention, Self-

Righteousness, Fear of Failure, Fear of Man

(Culture), and Unrealistic Expectations. He taught

those in attendance how to plant healthy, habitual

seeds that are the fruit of the spirit. Participants were

challenged by Tripp’s teachings. If you would like

access to the video stream of the marriage confer-

ence, email Jeff Hobbs at [email protected].

There is no charge for it. It can also be sent to any-

one who you think could benefit from it. A free study

guide comes with it.

“Thanks to each of you who attended or helped with the conference. It was amazing and a tremendous amount of positive feedback has come our way. I can't thank you enough. As part of Brazos Valley Coalition on Suicide Prevention, you are doing a lot to get people to finally acknowledge the problem of suicide and begin the difficult conversations about it. I am

seeing doors of opportunity being opened all around this community that were closed in the past to anything sui-cide related. Very great job & Thank you all.”

One of my favorite Christmas songs is “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Throughout this song there is a theme leading us to Christ. “Do you see what I see?’………..”A star, dancing in the night” The star shining over a dark world of sin, guiding our way to Peace. Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonder-ful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” “Do you hear what I hear”……….”A song,

high above the trees” Angels singing songs of praise to our Messiah. Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” “Do you know what I know”………”A Child shivers in the cold” Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (God with us) “Listen to what I say”……………..”The Child sleeping in the night, He will bring us goodness and light” Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Today’s world is waiting for a re-Awakening, we need to see, hear, know and listen to find and know Life in Christ. True and abundant life is a relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ - which is the best present ever! Merry Christmas!
