A prayer for Memorial Day

We remember, O Lord, all those people throughout the years who have made the supreme sacrifice for our country, for

liberty, for us. Whenever we breathe the air of freedom or claim the right to justice or enjoy the privilege of worship, fill us with gratitude for those who selflessly gave the last full measure of devotion, their very lives, for our benefit.

May these brave men and women now know the joy of eternity and your presence. And may the families of the fallen receive comfort and peace amid their grief. Help us as we minister to their needs. Through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.

A prayer for Mom

A young boy had been misbehaving, so his mother sent him to his room. Sometime later, he came out and told his mom he’d prayed about the matter. “That’s

good,” she replied. “If you ask God for help to not misbehave, he’ll help you.”

“Oh, I didn’t pray for help behaving,” said the boy. “ I pray for God to help you put up with me.”

May Worship Passages That Pump Me Up

May and June Worship series

We return to the theme of exploring Bible stories and passages that have inspired the preaching team of Cross Winds. In May, Jamie Boettcher and Ron Chick join me in exploring scriptures and ideas that have greatly transformed our spiritual lives.

Sunday, May 3 “Echoes” Pastor Mike Dyrdal asks “How did Peter feel, the rest of his life, whenever he heard a rooster crow?” God helps us in real tangible ways to deal with regret and shame. Read Mark 14: 27-30; 66-72 & John 21: 15-17

Sunday, May 10 On this Mother’s Day, we worship in our parking lot again, drive-in style, at 10:00 am. Stay safely in your car and tune to 94.1. We had such a good time “getting together” on April 19 for worship. So let’s do it again. Bring your own coffee and donuts.

Sunday, May 17 “Winning Isn’t Everything” Jamie Boettcher looks at Acts 20:24 & 2 Timothy 4:7-8 exploring the goal of competing well and finishing strong in faith.

Sunday, May 24

“It’s About the Questions, Too” Ron Chick encourages us to let our souls wrestle with and ask good questions.

Sunday, May 31

“Children of Encouragement” On this day of Pentecost, we are encouraged to let God transform the world by transforming us into people who radiate encouragement and grace. Read Acts 4: 32-37 and wear and display the color red in honor of the Holy Spirit.

When Will We

“Open Up” for

worship again in

our sanctuary?

The answer today at this moment is “we don’t know.” That answer may feel very frustrating to most of us. But I do want you to know the following things when we “open up;”

† It will be safe. We will “open up” again for

worship, classes, ministries, etc. only when it is safe to do so. We are committed to safety for our own good, and for the well-being of each other. And we are committed to being good neighbors.

† To determine safety, we are committed to

following the best knowledge, wisdom, and advice of our Minnesota health leaders along with Governor Walz, as well as the leaders of our United Methodist Church, including our Bishop Bruce Ough and our District Superintendent Susan Nienaber.

† Our church’s Board has created a health

task force to oversee and guide our response and “re-opening” to “in person” worship and activities. We are thankful to the following health professionals for their willingness to serve: Jeanine Ronning, Kara Biederman JoAn Baker and myself. We will keep you updated.

What Happened to General

Conference?

And other UM News:

Minneapolis was set to host the 2020 General Conference – the international gathering of United Methodists leaders and delegates. But it has been postponed until next year with tentative dates of August 31 – September 10, 2021, and might possibly be in Minneapolis. This means significant decisions on our denomination’s future are on hold for one more year.

Our Annual Conference has been postponed until August. This gathering of pastors and lay delegates was set for June 10-12 in Sioux Falls, SD. Now it will be a one-day virtual meeting in August, date to be determined.

Our own District Superintendent Susan Nienaber had received a new assignment to serve in the leadership in the Dakotas Annual Conference. But she will continue as our Superintendent for one more year, due to health concerns of Rev Brenda North, who was to become our new DS.

“Yay, God” Celebration....

On Wednesday, April 15 five 6th graders received their Bibles and Black Belts for completing their course curriculum “Bible Black Belts: Scripture with a Kick”! They had their ceremony via Zoom, and did a great job of reciting their memorized Bible verses and passages. Check out the full service here (https://youtu.be/S-yVvFjSLZM)!

2020 Confirmation Class

Confirmation 2020 celebration was set for Sunday, April 26 but because of the pandemic, the students will be celebrating when it is safe for all.

Pastor Rachel wrote to the students:

Students - I am so incredibly proud of you, and your church is so incredibly proud of you! And you know what else!? God is so incredibly proud of you for walking in the faith so boldly!!

I know the end of your confirmation didn’t turn out how you planned, but all your hard work and dedication is not a waste!

We WILL celebrate your confirmation when it is safe, but in the meantime, keep learning, keep growing, turn in your requirements and let’s enjoy the extra time we have to “grow in perfection” with Christ!!

I love you and God loves you!

Congratulations, Confirmation Class of 2020!!

Stitches of Love

Will not meet in May. We will plan to meet again in September.

Finance Update

We are facing some challenging times for our families, friends and our missions. Our financial condition through April is stable due to our continued blessings and grace extended by our CWUMC families. We greatly appreciate this at this time. Our Finance Team and other committees in our Church are working together to minimize our expenses and ensure the continuity of all of the missions we are engaged in. No pledge for Giving is considered too small, everything you can contribute may make the difference for 2020. Electronic giving to support CWUMC is another alternative for you. For further explanation on Electronic giving or to change your pledge please reach out using our email at [email protected]

Thank you for your support for our ministries at CWUMC.

20 FREE tickets reserved for the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra. Monday, July 13, Nicollet Island. Concert begins at 10:30 am, and ends around 11:45 am. We will carpool from church and meet for lunch after the concert. If you are interested or have questions, please call 763-420-5058 or email me asap. [email protected].

Annual Spring Tea .

Sadly, the Annual Spring Tea will need to be rescheduled. The Governor has extended the stay at home order to May 4 and times are just too uncertain to risk it.

This year would have been the 15th Annual Tea, so pinkies crossed that we can reschedule when social times are safer. Raise a teacup with a loved one on Mother's Day weekend!

Mask information JoAn Baker

To help reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus, it is imperative for everyone to wear a mask when out in public. The homemade cloth masks are encouraged to save hospital grade masks for the medical workers. Here is what you need to know:

• Viruses spread through small particles called aerosols that are expelled into the air when we breathe out. These aerosols can travel six feet or more, ten feet or more when we cough or sneeze. The aerosols can linger in the air for a long time especially in small, poorly ventilated spaces. The virus enters the body through the mucus membranes of the mouth or eyes.

• Your mask does not protect you but is to protect others; hence others need to also wear a mask to protect you. Avoid anyone (not living with you) who is not wearing one! Masks do help you avoid touching your own face!

• Masks need to be worn indoors if not in your own home, outside if in areas such as crowded parks.

• The mask must cover your nose and mouth at all times with no gaps around the edges.

• Don’t touch the outside of your mask after you have worn it. Wash your hands thoroughly after removing your mask. YOU CAN SANITIZE YOUR MASK BY WASHING IT WITH SOAP AND WATER OR IRONING OR STEAMING WITH AN IRON. (Do not put it in a microwave.) Always do this before wearing again.

• Avoid crowded, poorly ventilated spaces. Always maintain a 6-10 feet distance. Do not ride in the same car with anyone who does not live with you even when wearing a mask.

If someone says, “I’m not going to wear a mask, I’ll take my chances.” Remember: they are not just risking their own lives, they are risking yours! Everyone need to do their part!

JoAn has about 20 masks available free. Email the office at [email protected] and we’ll make sure you get one.
