“Prayer at Sunrise”

CHRISTIAN SYMBOL

Willow The billowing branches of the “Weeping Willow” symbolize mourning, especially of the Israelites as they endured captivity. The Willow, which grows well in marsh areas, is associated in the Bible with fruitful, well-watered land (see Ezekiel 17:5).

In descriptions of Old Testament festivals of praise, God’s people were told “to take branches from luxuriant trees, from palms, willows and other leafy trees, and rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days” (Leviticus 23:40, NIV).

O greater Maker of this day great sun, Give me the strength this one day’s race to run, Fill me with light, fill me with sun-like strength, Fill me, with joy to rob the day its length. Light from within, light that will outward shine, Strength to make strong some weaker heart than mine, Joy to make glad each soul that feels its touch; Great Father of the sun, I ask this much.

SUMMER WORSHIP

SERIES

“Stories that Stick”

This July and August we are in a series called "Stories That Stick". We'll be looking at well-known Bible stories we may have learned when we were kids, and seeing that they have wisdom and insight for today.

Page 3

Sunday, July 5 Creation Genesis 1 & 2 The beginning of our faith story shows God’s love and care for humans. Worship online and communion will be celebrated.

Sunday, July 12 The Fall Genesis 3 The first humans disobey and become estranged from God, each other, and creation. But God’s not done. Worship in the parking lot and online.

Sunday, July 19 Noah’s Ark Genesis 6-9 Bill Lewis explores this favorite story in which God gives the world and people a new start. Regardless of your age or perspective, just the mention leaves us full of questions, curi-osities and especially lessons for today. Worship online.

Sunday, July 26 Jonah and the Whale Jonah 1-4 A servant of God tries to withhold God’s grace from people he hates. But God will not be thwarted. Worship in the parking lot and online.

ABOUT OUR WORSHIP EXPERIENCES

The link to each weekend's on-line service is active Saturday afternoons through Monday nights. You will find them on the home page of our website, on our Facebook page, and they will also be emailed to you. We are committed to having an online worship service every weekend. We have also expanded our number of parking lot services to twice a month. The following dates will have both parking lot and online services: July 12 & 26 and August 9 & 23. Worship begins at 10 AM.

We don't yet know when we will return to "in person” worship in the sanctuary. It will not be happening until the fall at the earliest. A task force of Cross Winds' medical professionals (Jeanine Ronning, JoAn Baker, and Kara Biederman Israel) is working with me to monitor the virus developments. We will gather together again when it is safe. We'll stay in touch on this.

SMALL GATHERINGS AND SMALL GROUPS

We are beginning to allow for some gatherings of smaller groups of no more than 30 persons. The only room available is the Fellowship Hall. All groups must schedule through our Office Manager Lori Goldstein 763.494.9463 or [email protected]

The guidelines below were approved by the Cross Winds Board at its June meeting.

June 27, 2020

Cross Winds Guidelines for Building Use During the Current “Yellow” Phase

The current phase is determined by the Minnesota Annual Conference

These guidelines have been designed with the safety of our congregation and community members in mind. We rely on the wisdom and guidance of the state of Minnesota, our Bishop, and the Minnesota Annual Conference in developing our plan.

Guidelines:

† We will continue to hold online worship and parking lot worship services at least through the end of

the summer. There will be no sanctuary in-person worship services at this time.

† Outdoor gatherings may take place on church property. Participants would bring their own chairs

and follow the guidelines for use of the building if needed. Masks are optional outdoors, but physical distancing still applies.

† Small groups (limit of 30 people) may hold meetings in Fellowship Hall only.

† A list of COVID-19 symptoms will be provided on line and at the entrance to the building. By

entering, you confirm that you are feeling well and do not have any of the symptoms listed.

Continued from page 4 Cross Winds Guidelines for building Use During the Current ”Yellow” Phase

† Only one small group can meet at a time. There will be at

least 30 minutes between gatherings. All meetings must be scheduled through the church office through the Office Manager Lori Goldstein 763.494.9463 or [email protected]

† Groups must follow strict physical distancing (six feet on

every side) and all attendees must wear masks. Family members residing together may sit together.

† Masks must be worn (cloth or other option) while in the building. Participants should bring their

own, but a small supply may be available.

† Any food or beverages must be brought in individual servings.

† The nursery will be closed for children for the time being.

† Participants should minimize the number of items touched or distributed.

† Use “no-touch” alternatives for greetings. Consider a friendly wave, a slight bow of the head, or

crossing your arms over your heart.

† No singing is allowed; may hum under masks.

† People are encouraged to leave the building as soon as the meeting concludes rather than

mingling.

† The entrance doors to building and fellowship hall will be marked for entry and exit, with care

taken to use physical distancing. Doors may be propped open to eliminate need for people to touch door handles.

† Sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance in the fellowship hall and the

bathrooms at all times.

† Only one person is allowed in the bathroom at a time (except members of same family). Each

person must wipe down all surfaces they touch with the provided sanitizing wipes (or cleaning materials) before exiting bathroom.

† Each small group will have a designated host. The host will:

Communicate the guidelines to the group and assure they are followed.

Be responsible for the cleaning of all surfaces that have been touched with provided wipes.

Complete the building use checklist (with start/stop time of the meeting, names/phone numbers of each person present in case follow-up or contact tracing is needed, cleaning done, etc.)

This checklist will be turned into Cross Wind’s office manager following your gathering, either by leaving it at church or sending it via email to the church office at [email protected]

We can’t see God with our eyes. But we can grow in our faith when we focus on who He is and what He’s done. When we take a closer look, we learn to trust in what we CAN'T see because of what we CAN see.

Who can believe in Jesus?

It's time to register for VBS!

Hear ye! Hear ye! All ye Kings & Queens, Knights & Nobles!

We are so excited to announce that we are offering virtual At-Home VBS! We want to keep all of our Knights and families safe at home and still be able to enjoy some of the fun and faith building activities of traditional VBS!

**Be strong in the Lord and in the Strength of His power. Ephesians 6:10**
