PRESIDENT’S REPORT

How quickly a year passes, it only seems like yesterday we were celebrating 30 years of Terrigal Trotters in the

Grand Ball Room at Crowne Plaza. It was Trotter of the Year Night and the theme was “Back to the 80’s” in recog‐

nition of our club forming in 1983.

Since those early years in the eighties, Trotters grew and continued to grow through the nineties and the new mil‐

lennia into the noughties (2000‐2009). I’m unsure if there is a “catch phrase” to describe the current decade we

are in, but whatever way you look at it, Terrigal Trotters continues to go from strength to strength.

As my first year as President comes to a close, I look back over the past 12 months with a sense of satisfaction. I

have been privileged to serve with a hard working and dedicated team that oversee the administration of Terrigal

Trotters. The Committee is as diverse as our membership with run totals from 60 all the way to over 1000, be‐

tween us we represent all our members, from walker to serious athlete and everywhere in between.

Whilst it is difficult to single out individuals for special recognition, I would like to thank Dave Byrnes for his work as

Club Secretary. Dave has selflessly given his time to Trotters for many years and I have been very fortunate to

work closely with him for many of those, in particular over the past 12 months.

Probably the most rewarding aspect of my year as President is the monthly milestone presentations. Whether it’s

making a 10 run presentation and welcoming a new member, or presenting the “Golden Fleece” for achieving 100

runs. I have had the honour of presenting every milestone right up to 1400 runs.

Terrigal Trotters is more of a family than a running club and like any family, we experience highs plus lows and I

continue to be inspired by the combined generosity of our members whenever the call for help has gone out.

The Saturday morning ritual of meeting for the 6am run is enough to keep us coming back week after week, but

take a quick glance at our calendar of events and I know we are in for a year ahead full of great running but also

great fun.

I look forward to sharing many of these moments with you.

TREASURER’S REPORT

The 2013/2014 Financial Year continued the trend of growth of Terrigal Trotters Inc. The financial position of the

club remains strong, driven by 1) increased membership, 2) the growth in popularity of the GNW 100s event and 3)

the strong participation in the Bay to Bay Running Festival.

Revenue

Total Revenue for the year was $171,835, slightly down versus 2012/2013. The main revenue items continue to be

the Bay to Bay; the GNW 100s and Saturday running fees.

The Bay to Bay event income was slightly down on the highs of 2012/13 and the donations to Charities and other

recipients (including Terrigal Trotters) were reduced as a consequence. The main financial contributor to the Club

was last year’s (Oct 13) successful GNW 100s event and my thanks go to Dave Byrnes and the many volunteers for

a very well organised event.

Expenses

There was a substantial increase in expenses incurred in the 2013 / 14 year, mainly due to:

1) The very successful 30th Anniversary Trotter of the Year night, the costs of which were significantly

subsidised by the Club.

2) The Club redesigned and purchased new running uniforms and Tina Baverstock has done a great job in

organising and selling these.

3) We have made more Milestone and Trophy awards, for example, recognising the significant long term

contributions from our new Life Members.

4) Increased Insurance and other costs. We have substantially more volunteers helping out at events

such as the Bay to Bay and GNW 100s and have taken out additional insurance.

As the Club is well in excess of the GST threshold, the cash position of Terrigal Trotters is monitored accordingly.

The Committee discussed whether the Saturday morning $2 running fee (which has remained the same for many

years) should be increased to $3. At present, the $2 fee will remain the same but will be reviewed again later in

the year. The cost paid by runners for bus trips to events (heavily subsidised by the Club) will increase slightly from

later this year.

The cash position of the Terrigal Trotters General Account as at end June showed a balance of $48, 762. This Ac‐

count, however, includes revenue (entry fees) for this year’s GNW 100s and we will not incur the expenses for this

event until September. The 2014 GNW 100’s revenue has been reflected in the year 2013/14 Balance Sheet as

‘Income Received in Advance’. The Bay to Bay account as at end June stood at $48,298 with donations and ex‐

penses of $40,161 in the process of payment. We still retain two Term Deposits, valued at $17,251.

Finally, my thanks to Harwood Chartered Accountants for their assistance, diligence and perseverance in preparing

the Financial Reports.
