Principal’s Column

23rd November 2011

This week’s column will be a short

one. Currently I am in Canberra

with the School Captains of 2011.

They have been treated to a great

work experience with Senator

Mark Arbib who again has offered

his office to provide a unique

experience for our students.

Among the highlights of the last

two days has been the chance to

see how the political system works

from the inside. With a pass that

opens all doors within the

parliament house our students

have had a great experience.

To-day they met and talked with

the Prime Minister immediately

after question time. Renay un-

phased carried on a great

conversation with Julia while Jeda

was so awed she could only repeat

some answers.

Whilst they didn’t get to speak

with Prince Fredrick and Princess

Mary from Denmark they saw

them up close a number of times

as well as brief visit to the great

Hall where the reception took

place.

This evening I spoke with Sarah

Newsome who indicated that they

were not far out of Sydney and

were catching up time and would

soon reach Sydney only a few

minutes late. She indicated that

students had shown great

behaviour and were looking

forward to their Sydney visit.

Undoubtedly the highlight will be

the Spectacular on Friday night

and the opening of the Art

exhibition at the Coo-ee Galleries.

What I have missed was the

presentation of the Duke of

Edinburg award at bronze level to

Harley. I am hoping others will be

inspired to do some community

service projects and also take part

in this worthwhile

project.

Term 4—Week 4

Last week I spent the week in Dubbo as a part of my 2 weeks training for becoming a Primary Industries

teacher. The week was spent at Dubbo TAFE with 8 other current Agriculture Teachers, and soon to

become Primary Industries Teachers, from all over the state.

Day 1 was Horticulture based where we undertook activities such as plant identification, propagating

plants from seeds and cutting, as well as grafting and budding activities.

Day 2 and 3 were Tractors! The TAFE had 6 tractors and 2 Gators that we had the opportunity to see

what we could do! We used a bucket on the front, a scarifier on the back, raced Gators and undertook

minor servicing activities on the tractors.

Day 4 and 5 was a little more theory based by completing my SMARTtrain Chemical Application course.

Next week I am back in Dubbo, with 3 days out on Farm fencing, calf marking and cattle and sheep

work, and 2 days back in Horticulture.
