KIWIFRUIT COAST TOURNAMENT

This popular tournament, organised by the fine folk at Gate Pa tennis club, was once again a huge success. The weather was, well, not terrible, and all matches were completed. Div 1 Mixed Winners Steve Billing & Penny Smith Runners Up – Ken Mcintrye & Cassandra Kidd

Full results can be found at http://tnz.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/draws.aspx?id=F1BD8C02-B716-4AEB-8C1B-74F67C523919. We hope to see you all again next year.

Bruce Geldard 12 October 1933 – 12 June 2014

It was only a year ago that there was an article in this Newsletter congratulating Bruce Geldard for his selection in the New Zealand 80+ team that played in Austria in September 2013, an event in which he performed creditably. We were deeply saddened to hear this year that Bruce had passed away after a brief illness. We would like to acknowledge Bruce’s contribution to TSWBOP and to the wider Tennis Seniors community.

Bruce played tennis in his late teens for 2 or 3 years but did not play again until he was reintroduced to it by his partner, Dawn, at the age of 60. He regularly played in tournaments and the Easter teams’ event. Bruce belonged to Homewood Park Club, and the highlight of his week for the last thirteen years was to travel to Tauranga to play with Tennis Seniors WBOP. He will be sadly missed.
