Membership Dues….
Thank you to all who have
joined the center or
renewed their
membership in 2020. The
reasonable annual dues of
only $10 runs on a calendar
year basis. This year,
more than ever, it is im-
portant to support the cen-
ter by keeping your mem-
bership active. It will also
make it easier to sign in
when visiting the center
once we reopen.
Thank you for supporting
your Senior Center!
Happy August Everyone!
It goes without saying that we all miss our old normal. Well, out with the old and in with the new normal! As you may know the Senior Center has been working on a reopening plan so that we can begin to offer some programs and activities when it is safe to do so. The safety of our members is most important so there will have to be precautions that everyone at the senior center takes so that we can gather again. Masks, social distancing, sanitation pro-cesses, temperature checks and sign in upon entering are some of the safety measures that will have to be followed when the center reopens. It sounds like a lot and I am sure will take some getting used to, but once we are in the habit it will feel as normal as lock-ing your door. We all know by now the best way out of this pan-demic is to stop the spread and we at the senior center promise that we are doing everything we can to see you again safely! But the part of the “old normal” that won’t change is the pleasure of being together at the center. Nothing will change that! That day is coming so keep staying safe and at the very least we will have an outdoor event in September. Make a note to check your Septem-ber newsletter for details. Miss You! Donna

Another month has gone by, people are still getting sick, and closings and masks are all over the place. Whoever would have dreamed this would be our new normal?
I really hate "new normal", however it is a reality.
The Senior Center remains closed, we MUST protect all of our members. We love all of you and would never take chances with your lives. There is nothing we would like better than to open the doors, and be back to normal, but at this time, that is not an option.
"Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them: like your smile, your hope, and your courage." When we get back to business, as usual, all things will look much brighter!!!! Love to all, Lynda
TWO SIDES
WITHIN THIS ONE VESSEL LIVES TWO SIDES,
ONE OF PEACE – ONE OF FEAR.
THE DAY STARTS WITH LOOKING TO THE BEAUTY AND WONDER OF THE WORLD AROUND ME.
WHO CAN KNOW OR EVEN UNDERSTAND THE SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS THAT WENT INTO PLACE
TO CREATE THIS WORLD?
AND DEEP IN MY SOUL I KNOW, I DON’T HAVE TO UNDERSTAND…AND THE PEACE COMES.
THEN MY DAY STARTS – DISTRACTIONS COME, WORRY
INVADES, THE BODY IS AGING AND CANNOT DO EVERYTHING THE MIND STILL BELIEVES IT SHOULD.
AND FEAR TAKES ROOT…NOTHING
GOOD COMING OUT OF THAT FEAR.
THEN I’M REMINDED THAT I HAVE A CHOICE TO MAKE, WHICH SIDE WILL I CHOOSE?
PEACE OR FEAR – AND I REALIZE THERE REALLY IS NO CHOICE AT ALL…
I CHOOSE PEACE!

MURIEL WOLFE Muriel is a valued volunteer member on the Senior Center’s
Board of Directors. In her sixth year of service on the board, she
has contributed greatly with her knowledge and giving of her
time helping with fundraisers and other senior center activities.
Her expertise in the kitchen is always helpful making her a

VOLUNTEERS…
...Are responsible for the Shirley Doane Senior Center’s success.
Many of you have donated your time regularly to make our events and programs possible.
When we reopen we will have a greater need for volunteers to help with new procedures
necessary to keep the center clean and safe. If you can offer a few hours of your time to help
with our “New Normal” practices, give the center a call or email us leaving your name and
phone number. Someone will call you with a schedule when we have a reopening date.
We appreciate your help to keep us safe when we resume activities at the center.
Because of all of our volunteers hard work we have a Senior Center to be very proud of!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

MORE MASKS MADE WITH LOVE! AVAILABLE AUGUST 25TH 10AM-NOON
AT THE SENIOR CENTER CRAFT ROOM ENTRANCE
Since the beginning of the pandemic, thoughtful Elinor Morlock
has been busy making beautiful masks for our senior center.
These popular masks will be available again in august at the
center, while maintaining social distancing of course.
Elinor will be available
Tuesday August 25th From 10:00am to 12:00pm
at the doorway to the craft room behind a plexiglass barrier.
These safe and fashionable masks are available in a variety
of patterns and colors and they are free of charge.
If you wish, free will donations to the senior center are welcomed.
Don’t leave home without one! They are a necessity to stop the spread
of the virus and no-one makes them more fashionable than Elinor!
She certainly is to be commended on her talents and use of her time!
We thank her for her thoughtful service!

OLE & LENA JOKE
Little Lena asked her dad,
“How did da human race ap-
pear?“ Vell, “Ole her father
answered, “God made Adam
and Eve and dey had children
and so all mankind vas made.”
Two days later Little Lena
asked her mother, Lena, the
same question. Lena told her
daughter, “Many years ago
dere vere monkeys from vhich
da human race evolved.”
Confused, Lilttle Lena re-
turned to Ole and said, “Dad,
how is it possible dat yew told
me da human race vas created
by God, and mother said dey
developed from monkeys ?”
Ole thought a moment and
answered, “Vell dear, it is very
simple, I told yew about my
side of da family and your
mother told yew about hers.”
