Winston-Salem
Winston-Salem is centrally located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean with convenient access to Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI/GSO). Winston-Salem is home to six colleges and universities including Salem College, the longest running women’s college in the United States, prestigious Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State universities, top ranked University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), Carolina University (formerly Piedmont International University), and Forsyth Technical Community College.
Winston-Salem is a tale of two cities with dual lineage. The first Moravians in North Carolina settled on 100,000 acres known as the Wachovia Tract in 1753. Salem was formed in 1766. Just a mile away, the city of Winston was established in 1849 and became a thriving industrial hub and named the county seat. The two cities officially united in 1913.
Twentieth-century businesses, such as R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and the Hanes Companies helped shape Winston-Salem by bringing remarkable wealth to the city and endowing it with an impressive list of institutions and foundations. Today, known as a “City of Arts & Innovation,” Winston-Salem continues to build a diverse business base leading in healthcare, nanotechnology research, finance, manufacturing, aviation, and the arts, reaffirming its time-honored tradition of forging boldly ahead.

Corridors of
Downtown: More than 120 restaurants, breweries, shops, and art galleries call our inviting and walkable downtown Winston-Salem home. The hip Arts District and dynamic Fourth Street are cornerstones of this area. The Downtown Corridor also hosts 18th century Old Salem Museums & Gardens, Kaleideum, an interactive museum and science center for families and all ages, the Innovation Quarter, Carolina University, and Salem College.
East: Winston-Salem State University, the Diggs Art Gallery, the last remaining original Shell Gas Station, and Union Station, Winston-Salem’s recently restored early 20th century train station are located in the East Corridor. Salem Lake offers many opportunities for outdoor activities including hiking, biking, fishing, and more. The corridor also includes the town of Kernersville.
North: The region’s North Corridor is where you’ll find Wake Forest University, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial (LJVM) Coliseum, the Reynolda Mile, Reynolda House Museum of American Art, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), Reynolda Village with shops and restaurants, and Bethabara Park, the 1753 original Moravian settlement in North Carolina.
South: The bustling South Corridor contains nationally recognized Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Novant Health system, University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), the top ranked performing arts conservatory, and Hanes Mall.
West: Just a 10-minute drive from downtown, the West Corridor sits alongside the meandering Yadkin River and Tanglewood Park. From the nearby Village of Clemmons and the town of Lewisville, it’s a quick trip to more than 45 award-winning wineries and wine producers in the Yadkin Valley, the first and largest American Viticultural Area (AVA) in North Carolina.
