Topic:-Bio gas, Bio mass And Bio Diesel as a fuelName:-Kaushik Ashok ShelarRoll No:-63Batch:-SYME(A)The term 'biogas' is commonly used to refer to a gas which has been produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. The gases methane, hydrogen and carbon monoxide can be combusted or oxidized with oxygen and the resultant energy release allows biogas to be used as a fuel.

What is Biogas?

Biogasis a mixture of about 70% methane and 45% C02and other trace contaminate gasses. The gas is created from anaerobically decaying organic mater, such asmanureandplant material. As the gas is man-made, it is differentiated fromnatural gas.

Biomass energy is a sustainable, renewable energy source. Biomass is a biodegradable organic material derived from plants or animal waste used for fuel and electricity production. Biomass is a solution to growing pollution problem and can become a significant energy source in the future.

What is Biomass?

Biomass Sources

Some examples of materials that make up biomass fuels are:scrap lumber;forest debris;certain crops;manure; andsome types of waste residues.

Combustion of biomass and other solid materials to produce energy has been in use for centuries and technologies have evolved to process the various types of materials and to conform to environmental regulations.Wood and wood wasteConstruction & Demolition WastesMunicipal Solid WasteTire-derived Fuels

Biomass-CombustionBiodieselrefers to avegetable oil- or animal fat-baseddiesel fuelconsisting of long-chainalkyl(methyl,ethyl, orpropyl)esters. Biodiesel is typically made by chemically reactinglipids(e.g., vegetable oil, animal fat (tallow)) with analcoholproducingfatty acid esters.

What is Biodiesel?

Biodiesel is made through a chemical process calledtransesterificationwhereby the glycerin is separated from the fat or vegetable oil. The process leaves behind two products -- methyl esters (the chemical name for biodiesel) and glycerin (a valuable byproduct usually sold to be used in soaps and other products). How is biodiesel made?Biodiesel cycle
