Part of my research for my magazine was using the internet, google images, watching noir DVDs and looking at slide shares about the conventions and features of noir. Using google images I was able to access existing magazine front covers such as EMPIRE which I found extremely helpful as I was able to study their layouts and conventions. After a while I even realised they lay out the features and colour scheme accordingly to the featuring film and genre. Using the DVDs (double indemnity, this gun for hire) I have studied the conventions of noir such as the props involved e.g. guns, cigarette, the dark theme and settings, the behaviour of characters etc. I have then made a collage and written analysis of these films and their features so that I can use them later on to revise when I am constructing the magazine and planning the trailer.

RESEARCH

When I was planning my front cover, I drew a small front cover of a magazine of my own so that I knew

where I was going to put all the features of the magazine. This was to also get my mind into the

magazine aspect and so in my actual magazine I did not copy the actual layout of this drawn up one as I learnt much more features and layouts after that. In terms of the trailer, I have made a story board (scroll down word press) of our film from the narrative plot

that we have devised as a group. This story board also helped us plan our shots as according to our scrip/narrative plot plan it had scenes which we

replicated in our actual trailer without making it too complicated as we had this plan. From the storyboard I made, we also constructed a mock trailer using the

storyboard shot by shot getting our hands on premiere.

PLANNING

The technologies that I have used to evaluate my practical coursework is word press, slide share powerpoints, word document, Prezi and quick time screen

recorder. Word press is the most used tech as it is an easy online blogging site where I have easily updated my progress. As well as this, it enabled to update

and blog other types of formats such as JPEG and embed slide share powerpoints etc. With slide share, It was similar to powerpoint and so this was an easy but also creative method of presenting my evaluation. Prezi is similar to Word press and I actually thought prezi was more creative than word press

in its funky layout and so it makes presenting more interesting. Word document was similar to word press as I can input pics of both and write

detailed analysis of them, almost like essay style which I found them to be really good for. Lastly, an interesting way to evaluate my work which I did for my front cover was using quicktime screen recorder. This was like recording

myself but with the visual of the computer screen instead of my face. Therefore I was actually able to move the mouse over the magazine cover on

the screen and talk about how I constructed the feature as it recorded my voice. This was so quick and easy to evaluate my work and it was quick

creative as it was something different.
