    CATEGORIES OF THE AWARDSThe Awards will be given to inst itu t ions, organ isations, companies, and societ ies / tru sts that haveexcelled in the ir respect ive domains in promoting the growth of telecom in India. There are sevencategories of the Awards. The ca tegories and sub ca tegoriesare as follows:

    R&D Organisations I Cent res Doing Excellent Work in TelecomAs in any technology domain, R&D plays a vital role in thedevelopment of the telecom sector in a country. By crea ting new,innovat ive products and revenue streams, R&D activities in thetelecom domain help in trickling down the benefits of te lecomtechnology to the masses while helping telecom companiesmaintain their commercial interests and competitive edge.

    Academic Institutio ns engaged in Telecom ResearchGreat ideas often rest on sound academic thoughts. Academicinstitut ions act as an integral backbone of any technology-drivenindustry.     Telecom Product exporter with maximum Indian IPR Telecom Hardware Telecom SoftwareAlthough India is a thriving te lecom ma rket. the share of Indian IPin the te lecom domain is not high enough in comparison withsome other sectors - such as pharmaceuticals and automotive.Indian IPR in telecom technology can help the industry save

    s a n t i a l ~ in royalty payments made for imported productsand components. Telecom product exporters with the ma ximumIndian IPR serve the dual purpose of increasing exports whi lecutting down on imports, thereby creating a favourable impacton the nation's ba lance of payments.

    Operators with customer focus fo r delivery of best Quality ofService

    Active Service Provider Passive Service ProviderThe qual ity of the telecom services of fered to subscribers directlyaffects the demand for such services & is therefore a keydeterminant of the overall health of the Indian telecom sector.Quality of service & customer focus can also serve as animportant different iation platform for operators. It is thereforenecessary to encourage the provision of better qual ity of servicesand recognise operators that excel in this KPI.

    30'H OCTOBER 2011.The selection will be a fair and transparentprocess and excellence will be the onlymajor consideration for the awards. Thecriteria for selection are being wellpublicised on various platforms toreinforce the authenticity and sanctity oftheawards.
