Coach's NotesThis was a super special spring and summer for the program and me! On May 17thJames Goldschmidt, Kyle Cocozza, Luke Balina, and Austin Maltez graduated fromThe College. All wrestled for four years in college while earning degrees. All wereleaders in their own way on and off the mat. They will be missed around campus butthey know the door to our program is always open to them. June 1st my wife,Carissa, and I were married in Stone Harbor, NJ!! A reception at Willow CreekWinery followed with family and close friends. We had a spectacular day that willnever be forgotten. We were truly blessed as the weather forecast was calling forrain the entire week but we did not see one drop on the day of. Carissa and I arebonded for life and neither of us could be more thrilled! Our wedding hashtag wasfitting for a TCNJ employee and coach #TeamCarissaNJoe. After the wedding wetook a quick honeymoon in Fort Lauderdale because while it was wedding season itwas also wrestling camp season :) TCNJ played an excellent host to our camp againthis year as it was the 2nd year we were back on campus. We had over 500combined wrestlers, coaches, and campers at TCNJ during the last week of June.July 1st The College's 16th Present, Dr. Kate Foster, officially began her tenure atTCNJ. I could not be more excited to see her energy and expertise positive influenceour students and campus. When I first met Dr. Foster she said, "I love wrestling!" Ifyou would like to meet Dr. Foster come to a home match and she may be frontcenter in our VIP seating section! A special thank you to Dr. Barbara Gitenstein formaking TCNJ such a wonderful place to matriculate and work. You will be missed! Astransition was occurring at The College in July I switched from coaching andteaching Folkstyle wrestling to Freestyle and Greco Roman. I got to coach for TeamNew Jersey which consisted of training camps and a competition in Fargo, NorthDakota. Cadet and Junior Nationals highlight the best high school wrestlers in thecountry competing in one of the biggest tournaments in the world. It was my thirdyear coaching the team and experience is always valuable and memorable. Thisyear was truly special because I got to see National Champion and Alumni ChrisPotter in Fargo as he was coaching the Texas women's team. Coaching Team NJ ishelping me build relationships with the best coaches in the country and the bestwrestlers NJ has to offer. I can already see that the work is paying off as we arebringing in the best recruiting class, on paper, since I have been the head coach. Sixstate place winners and nine additional state qualifiers will be joining the team in the2018-2019 season. We are also returning seven regional starters, four Academic All-Americans, two National Qualifiers, and an All-American. In August things alwayslook good for the upcoming season but there is a buzz around this team right nowthat makes me believe it can all come together. The next edition of the newsletter willinclude our schedule (5 home dates), new staff announcements, and our Alumni

This month, we would like to highlight TCNJ National Champ, Justin Totten! Justin recentlyrelocated to Nashville, TN in 2016 through his last company. He currently is working inMedical Device Sales for Medline Industries selling Tissue Regeneration products for

Acute and Chronic Wounds & Burns and covers the state of Tennessee along with NorthMississippi & North Alabama. Before attending TCNJ, Justin wrestled for Allentown High

School & Blair Academy.

We asked Justin a few questions about his time at TCNJ, read below for his answers!

Q: What are your best memories wrestling at TCNJ and with coach Ice?J: Coach Ice developed a great culture and team environment that made wrestling for theCollege exciting and enjoyable at the same time. The team environment also provided agreat camaraderie among teammates. Coach Ice’s stories, his old school stories alwaysmade the van ride better. Back then we did not have smart phones…LOL. I also really

enjoyed the 3 years I was a volunteer assistant for Coach Ice and the team. Including theyear that Joe Galante and Mike Guenther made the National Finals and the team placed

5th.

Q: What was the single greatest part of your time with Coach Ice and the LionsWrestling Team?

J: The sport of wrestling and my time with the team help prepare me for a corporate worldthat sometimes is a very challenging environment. I have witnessed many people try and

fail in medical device sales. Wrestling prepares you for the adversity, challenges and

provided the base to build your skills and grow in that environment.
