T-SHIRT COLOR POLICY

• Teams are required to wear color-coordinated shirts for their athletic contests

• Scrimmage vests will be given out if two teams are wearing the same color

ROSTER FORM·Rosters will be accessed on IMleagues.com

· Captains can manager their rosters from their team site

· All participants must create an account on IMleagues. In order to play in the playoffs, all team members must be on the official roster before then!

· Teammates can be added to the roster at game time

· Make sure all contact information is correct!

• If we cannot contact a team representative you may miss important information and subject to forfeiture

INSURANCE

Students are required to have health insurance in order to participate in Intramurals

PROPER ATTIRE• No jewelry of any kind!

• This includes necklaces, earrings, watches, bracelets, rubber bands, nose rings, belly rings, etc.

• Jewelry cannot be taped down

• Only plastic spikes can be worn on the Lion’s Stadium turf

• No bare feet, flip flops, or open-toed shoes

• Soft casts are permitted

• Knee braces are permitted with protective covering and approved by the on-site Intramural Supervisor

CAPTAIN’S RESPONSIBILITIES • Inform team of intramural rules

• Available online at http://www.tcnj.edu/~intramur/• Proper sign-in with intramural supervisor

• 15-30 minutes before game

• TCNJ ID card:

• No Exceptions!!• Team schedules, standings, rules, rankings, updates, photos,

announcements will be available on website

• Team captains will be emailed or called for special circumstances (cancellations, forfeits, etc.)

• Will be posted online first, so check before calling

• Ex. Male can only play on a Men’s A team and a Co-Rec team, not on both a Men’s A and Men’s B teams

SOFTBALL SEASON

Season will start Wednesday, March 6th

Games will be played Monday through Thursday, 6-10pm

All games played at Lion’s Stadium

SOFTBALL SEASON

• Teams may play 1-2 games per week

• Captains will be notified and emailed when schedule is available

• Please arrive 15-20 minutes early to sign in for your game

• Teams will be given a 5 minute grace period

• When warming up, please do so outside of the stadium!

ELIGIBILITYAll students, faculty, and staff may participate in the Intramural program. A student is defined as a person enrolled in The College of New Jersey that is paying a student activity fee.

All part-time students and non-matriculated students who have been assessed an activity fee are eligible to participate.

Faculty/Staff members may organize their own teams. However, they may play on the same team with students as well.

ELIGIBILITYEx-Varsity players will be permitted to participate in intramurals under the following guidelines:

• An ex-Varsity player is defined as any player who won a varsity letter• In the A-league only 3 ex-Varsity players will be allowed per team• Players who participated in varsity sports more than 5 years ago are

not considered varsity athletes any more• Individuals who are participating in a collegiate sport for the current

season will be ineligible to participate in that intramural sport

Teams using illegal players will be suspended!

PROTESTSPROTESTS INVOLVING JUDGEMENT CALLS BY AN

OFFICIAL WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED!

A protest can only be made based on rule interpretation or player eligibility. All rules can be found on the Intramural webpage.

Protest must be put into writing and sent to Intramural Director and Assistant within 24 hours of the contest.

PLAYER EJECTIONParticipants who are ejected from their contest must meet with the Intramural Director and Assistant Coordinator before they are allowed to play in another contest

Penalty can range from sitting out innings/games and suspension of a specified date

UMPIRESRemember they are students too! They don’t deserved to be abused!

Judgment calls can’t be argued or protested!

Without student officials we wouldn’t be playing!

SOFTBALL RULES

• Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) rules govern all play not covered in intramural rules

• Teams need at least 8 players to begin a game

• All players are eligible to bat. A player arriving late will be added to the end of the line-up.

• Free substitution is allowed at the end of each inning for fielders

SOFTBALL RULES

• Games will be played in a 1 hour time limit or 7 innings. A game will be completed after 5 innings.

• A new inning will not begin past the 50 minute mark

• If a game is called because of foul weather or darkness, the score shall revert to the last inning completed

• Mercy Rule: Team ahead by 15 or more after 3rd inning or 10 or more after the 5th inning, the game will be called

BASERUNNING• A runner may not leave the base before the ball is hit. If they

do, it is an automatic out.

• No sliding or diving on arrival to a base. Only head-first diving is permitted when returning to a base.

• Baserunners can run through 2nd and 3rd base, similar to 1st. If they make an attempt to the next base, in the umpire’s judgment, can be tagged out.

• No stealing. This is an automatic out.

• Courtsey runners are only permitted for injured players.

HITTING

• All batters start their at-bat with a 1 strike count

• Two foul balls following the 2nd strike will constitute an out

• Batters walk on the 4th ball thrown.

• No bunting. This is an automatic out.

• Hitting teams are responsible for retrieving foul balls. Failure to do so can result in forfeiting the game.

PITCHINGAll pitches shall have a definite arc or be declared a ball by the umpire, unless the batter hits the pitch. This is at the umpire discretion. Batters may attempt to hit an illegal pitch.

12 foot maximum and 6 foot minimum for all pitches

No windmill pitches, one wind and the ball must be delivered to home plate

If a pitch hits a batter, it is considered a ball

GROUND RULES• Any ball hit over an infield fence is a dead ball and the

runners will advance accordingly. Same rule applies if the ball rolls underneath the fence.

• Any ball hit over the right field fence (Field 1) is considered a ground-rule double

• Players on base will advance accordingly when a ball is hit right off the light pole (entrance to bleachers) and left of baseline

• Any ball hitting the light pole in the air or is hit over the fence to the left of light pole is a homerun

GROUND RULES• Any ball hit down the right field hill on Field 2 is still in play.

• A foul ball caught on the turf is an out. If it is caught on the blacktop, it is not an out.

• Infield fly rule: When runners are on 1st and 2nd or 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with less than 2 outs and pop fly is hit in the infield

• -Batter will be declared out (whether ball is caught or not)

• -Runners will advance at their own risk

• Over throws:

• 1 base from infield

• 2 bases from outfield

CO-REC RULES

A Co-Rec team must have a minimum of 4 women to play. There must be an even number or more women than men on the field at any time.

Line-ups must alternate male and female. However, females can hit behind females.

If a male draws a walk, the next female due to hit has the option to also take a walk or attempt to hit.

WEATHER ISSUESThe Intramural Department will email and text team captains by 4pm via IMLeagues.com of any cancellations. Games will be rescheduled on a time-permitting basis.

If inclement weather develops during your game (i.e. lighting), the game will be delayed 30 minutes before being deemed safe to continue.

On-site Intramural Supervisor will make the final decision…no exceptions!
