Call For Chapter Awards Nominations
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO
DECEMBER 11, 2015
Every year, GPAEE presents Awards to energy professionals who have achieved prominence in their
field. We rely fully on you, our members and affiliates, to nominate those you feel deserve the recogni-
tion and award. Nominations are being accepted now and winners will be recognized at the January
2016 meeting.
Through our Awards Program, we are able to recognize the important work being done in energy by
individuals, organizations, and corporations. By identifying those who exemplify the very best in their
fields, energy professionals are honored and the industry is advanced. Local nominees also provide the
platform for recommendations for the national AEE Regional Awards, honored each year at WEEC.
Please take the short amount of time that is needed and submit your nomination. Nomination ballots
must be received by November 30th.

CLEAN ENERGY BOOSTED BY INCREASED R&D SPENDING AND NEW INVESTMENT FUND LED BY BILL GATES Twenty countries pledged to double their research and development budgets for new clean energy technologies, and 28 private-sector investors promised to provide capital to commercialize any breakthroughs. The announcements, made during the Paris climate talks, should boost the clean energy sector, even if no global agreement to reduce carbon emissions is reached at the summit. (more)
DÉJÀ VU ALL OVER AGAIN: WHY THE SHALE GAS TAX KEEPS FLAMING OUT Over the years, both Republicans and Democrats in Harrisburg have wanted to raise revenue by passing a severance tax on Marcellus Shale drillers. Polls have consistently shown a majority of Pennsylvania voters support it. Last year, the idea helped propel Democrat Tom Wolf into the governor’s mansion. But now, as Wolf and the Republican-led legislature struggle to reach a budget deal after a nearly five-month long standoff, the severance tax is once again off the table. The tax has been debated since the shale boom took off, so why hasn’t it happened? There are two main reasons: lawmakers who loathe raising taxes– and lobbyists. (more)
DOES CHOICE IN ELECTRICAL PROVIDERS BRING SAVINGS? Like Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Connecticut allows competitive electricity suppliers to sell di-rectly to residential customers, and they have barraged consumers with offers they tout will help to cut their monthly bills. (more)
CHEVY OFFERS NATURAL GAS ALTERNATIVE The Chevy Impala came our way for Wards 10 Best Engines testing recently, but it wasn’t a con-ventional gasoline-driven engine. Instead, the bi-fuel 3.6L DOHC V-6 runs both on gasoline and compressed natural gas, an energy source in the U.S. that is expected to last about 100 years. (more)
U.S. LNG EXPORTS TO BEGIN IN JANUARY Cheniere Energy expects to become the first company to export liquefied gas from U.S. shale fields in January 2015. Cheniere plans to start receiving natural gas to convert into super-chilled liquid fuel at its first U.S. LNG export terminal by the end of the year. Chief Executive Officer Charif Souki told reporters outside of the Singapore International Energy Week conference, "We will ship our first cargo sometime in January." (more)
LUXTECH: BRINGING INNOVATION TO LIGHT IN THE NAVY YARD Sean Darras always knew he wanted to start his own business. He studied mechanical engineering and business at University of Delaware, and landed a prestig-ious job at Sunoco after graduation. The position provided a great salary, but turning crude oil into gasoline didn’t really fire up his engine. Lacking the motivation he needed to pursue his dreams, he moved on to seek out his passion.(more)
