Personal records Marathon 2:04:23 (Dubai, 2012) Half marathon 59:42 (Den Haag, 2011) 5,000m 13:11.38 (Hengelo, 2009) 10,000m 27:48.84 (Eugene, 2011)

By those merits, he was selected to represent Ethiopia at the 2012 Olympic Games, but he did not complete the race. He bounced back with a podium finish at the London Marathon in April.

Personal Ayele is one half of the fastest marathon brothers in history as his older sibling, Tessema, has a personal best of 2:08:26. Tessema now serves as Ayele’s coach.
