Principal’s news Welcome back to what will be a busy and exciting Term 3! We extend a warm AAS welcome to Riley (Year 2), Alesha (Year 4), Jade (Year 5) and their family to AAS. We trust you will enjoy your time with us.

I remind all families to keep up to date on all events and happenings throughout the term through our newsletters, website and Facebook page. A term planner is also attached to this newsletter.

Our Year 12 formal will be held this Friday evening. This function is one of the significant events for our students in their final year. For our Year 12s, Term 3 is a busy and demanding time. I remind them all to continue to focus on their goals; organisation, planning and dedication, through this they will reap rewards. I also remind them to continue to use all of the support systems they have available, including their teachers and their families. Our External School Review will be held on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th August. As part of this process the Review Team will be meeting with groups of staff and students. They would also like to meet with parents. If you are interested in being part of the review process please contact the Front Office. The parent meeting times are Monday 2.10pm or Tuesday 9am. This term we are undertaking the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). All schools are required to collect information about the numbers of students that they provide adjustments to under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and Disability Standards of Education This data is used as the basis for national funding. The NCCD involves the collection of;

The number of students receiving adjustments to enable them to participate in education on the same

basis as other students.

The level of adjustment provided to students.

Student’s type of disability if known.

Under the model the definition of disability is broad and includes learning difficulties, physical and mental health conditions. If your child is identified for inclusion in the NCCD Collection, the required information will be included in this year’s data collection. If you have any questions about the data collection, please contact me on 88373025. Further information can be found at: http://www.education.gov.au/nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability. Good luck to our students who will be representing AAS in the Knockout Basketball competition and the Balaklava Eisteddfod. I also trust our year 3-6 students will enjoy their camp at Illawonga. Thank you to the staff who are supporting these extra-curricular activities. I am pleased to advise that the Ardrossan Bakery will recommence as our lunch provider, as of Monday 29th July. Lunch orders will be available on Mondays and Fridays, with the ordering process being through the lunch order bags, with payment included. A menu will be forwarded to families and published on our website before the end of this week. Please note, the Bakery have indicated there will be a price increase in the near future. A revised price list will be provided to families when this occurs. Kind regards, Margaret

Leader’s News Deputy Principal

Welcome back to Term 3! Our Year 10 PLP class and some of our Year 11 and Year 12 students are attending the Careers Expo being held in Kadina this Thursday, with teachers Nathan Wright and Leonie Peterson. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to attend exhibits from tertiary organisations, apprenticeship providers and employers to learn more about their desired post school career pathway. On Friday year 10 students will attend a SAPOL road safety presentation at the school. Year 11 and 12 students will have the opportunity to attend this initiative when it has been rescheduled for later this year. On Friday evening our Year 12 students are attending the school Formal, this will be a fantastic celebration of their final year of schooling. In addition to this busy week one, on Friday of week 2 we also have students participating in Open Boys Basketball and in the Balaklava Eisteddfod. We wish these students all the best for their preparation and participation in these events. With this busy start it is clear we are in for another

exciting term which I am very much looking forward to. With many thanks, Amy East.

R-6 Leader

Welcome back for Term 3, I hope everyone had an enjoyable break. We have a busy start to the term in the Junior School. Next week all R-6 students will participate in the Footsteps dance program. This year we have also made it optional for Year 7/8 students to attend. There will be two sessions run each afternoon, with the R/1 and 2/3 classes lesson at 1:30pm- 2:15pm and the 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 classes’ lesson at 2:15-3pm. On Friday the 2nd of August we invite all families to come and watch what the students learnt throughout the week.

On Wednesday- Friday of Week 3, the Year 3-6 students, along with Mr Clark, Mr Mills and Miss

Sims will be attending camp at Illawonga, on the Murray River, near Swan Reach. The activities at Illawonga Camp are varied and are based on a study of river ecology, animals & the Murray Mallee. Further information including a detailed itinerary and packing list will be sent home with students today. Please remember that full payment for the camp is due this Friday, 26th of July. Kind Regards, Deony Sims.

Student Wellbeing I would like to extend a warm welcome back to our students and families to what will be a busy Term 3. The Year 3-6 students have camp in week 3, and this will be a great opportunity to explore new surroundings and to develop and nurture respectful relationships with each other outside the school environment. To this day, I still hold many fond memories of my school camp experiences; where I felt a great sense of freedom and connection to our environment. Week two is the Balaklava Eisteddfod which offers a platform for our students to showcase their music and performing art talents. I wish staff and students all the best and acknowledge the hard work and dedication required to perform at this level. Just a reminder our Year 7-12 students will be participating in drug and alcohol education

seminars with Encounter Youth on Tuesday week 2. The free parent information seminar also being offered will take place in the Ardrossan Community Library from 5 – 6 pm. Coffee/Tea and biscuits will be provided. I look forward to seeing parents/carers on the night and talking with you about pertinent issues facing our young people today. Kind regards, Cherie Beech
